Love your advice on lawn care. My lawn looks like crap in the spring . About 50% bermuda 50% fescue and a few weeds ,How do i get rid of my fescue or my bermuda . I seeded my lawn around 4 years . appreciate all your help . 5

I come back to budget lawns when I need to "cool down" on my obsession with my lawn. I gotta be reminded that its just a lawn, not a golf course, and that I need to be spending my time and money in better places of my life sometimes. I was about to drop money and a lot of time to do a leveling project until I found a manual reel mower that literally takes away all my scalping issues that a rotary does on an uneven lawn. And you can't even tell its unleveled now that I've mowed with a reel. Why? Because the way the blade moves with the shape of the ground. Yeah, not 100% perfect, but looks a lot better than my rotary did and that has me satisfied. Moral of the story is grass looks great and that's all that matters. No need to put more time on the lawn when there is a ton of life happening elsewhere. I think a lot more lawn enthusiasts need to listen to Budget Lawns. This a fun obsession to have, but it can turn into a toxic obsession real fast.

Totally agree with you on the using girls in the thumbnails. It's just a cheap way to get attention. If I'm looking for that it's easy to find on the internet. When I'm looking at hobby videos on KZbin it just feels cheap. Using a much younger female family member for that role makes it creepy.

well i have to laugh as the ones you speak about and the reason they most likely do that are because they are so NOT confident in their TRUE ability to attract the RIGHT audience to follow them and view ,,because WITHOUT them exploiting women are SO INSECURE about themselves and their content that they know the ONLY way to increase the views is thru a sexual based approach.. pretty sad in my opinion . AND why in the world would a person want to continue view their content IF its only about the women they are exploiting to have their channel watched.. and really the lawn care companies that support them should pull out of their channel and not pay them the money for the affiliate programs as that really does NOT say much about the company they are representing.. as you are as good as the company you keep...which says how sad the company is as well,,, Keep up the great content you provide!! you are awesome!! thank you... Didn't know where to start on my comment and then it hit me. I watch and follow a lot of channels and always try to leave a comment. Its always positive and to encourage the creator. A 13 minute video is long and with just talking and no visuals is even longer. The standard has been reduced to 5 -6 minutes because of attention span and to keep the interest going. I usually won't watch someone talking that long but when its what needs to be said and heard, time is irrelevant. I do not have a problem with people selling because its no different than any other industry in our society. Their products are the best and their claims are most of the time not true. Think of any product or services that doesn't use that approach. I agree with you about the exploits of women. Car shows, boxing matches, cheer leaders are perfect examples of that to name a few. I myself have fallen into the trap of buying and using products and equipment to achieve the perfect lawn without success and that's because there is no such thing as perfect. The good news is that we have the freedom to choose who and what we watch and in time realize who is legit and who if full of crap. Next season I plan on going back to basics without all the other treatments that I have used in the past. Less is more and my lawn and my wallet will appreciate it. Keep preaching bud. It is making a difference one person at a time. 👍💚🦸

I bought 7 soil tests back in early 2021...almost did them all side-by-side...then didn't because I didn't think it was as important as I was led to believe. Stick to a reasonable npk ratio throughout the year and nothing changes anyway so who cares? With that said, a soil test can give you a look into minors in your soil, if you have an abundance then the temptation to apply minors is drastically reduced saving you money and you can get a more accurate ph reading which can make application of lime or elemental sulfur an obvious choice. I don't push soil tests but...can't wait to hear your thoughts on mine and the video around it next month 😃😁 happy Christmas to you Travis! And merry New year!

I wouldn’t call it being a hater and complaining. I would call it honest critiquing. Just because I’m calling it out doesn’t mean I’m complaining about it. There’s a huge difference. I moved down south a few years ago and was new to Bermuda grass. After our yard was sodded I found there was a learning curve mowing and caring for this grass. Up north if you wanted it shorter you cut it shorter. After doing this down here I learned the one third rule very quickly. I watched the “doctors” on KZbin and bought all the products. My lawn looked good but last year I had someone spray pre emergent twice and fertilized in the spring and my lawn looked just as good and saves a lot of $$. I have no issue with people putting videos up about doing the free lawn mowing of overgrown lawns. The property owner or occupant gets something done that they are unable to do themselves or pay for. The Business owner gets paid for their time, effort and wear and tear on their equipment. Some of them have invested a lot of money into their equipment They have to make a living somehow. I am only set up to do small lawns with a push mowing and I already have over 15K NZD in equipment Lawn mowing as a business is hard work and can be hard income-wise when you are starting out. I know first-hand about that part. It also gives people something to watch, a feel-good feeling, and entertainment. Yes, some of the titles for free mowing can be a little clickbaity. I could go off on a spill here, it's almost like some dude here on youtube, started off showing people the cheapest options, like chicken feed to put good "bio organic matter" in a lawn and now has their own bag of said stuff that cost like 80$ a bag. However all I'll say is just keep being you. Video needed to be made, your lawn looks fantastic, and I've started living more by your standards living in Arkansas myself. There the "Enthusiast" level lawn stuff that turns your yard 1/2 shade greener for 1k more a year, then there's you. Just being like "Bro my lawn is top notch by doing the basics that save me money" That's all we need. I have one random video on my channel, "viral" might I add, just a random gaming video, and I KNOW what people are making, my video has 2.3 or something like that million views, with ZERO sponsors ect that would pay top dollar besides youtube market money for a video like that and some how that free cut turns into a month worth of cuts "or more" real quick. Also sorry Arkansas lost to Missouri today, I'm over here on the northeast side of the state watching my worst football from Arkansas State since they joined the FBS. We were good under Freeze, malzahn, ect for a while, could had probably beaten the Razorbacks back in our "Sun Belt Reign" days, but now I'm almost wishing we would bite the bullet and go back down to the FCS. I'm sure sometimes yall wish you'd join the big 12 or something too, but it wouldn't benefit the baseball team or basketball team. Great video.

Haha, maybe a little I suppose. But as a former business owner for more than a decade, I don't recall exploiting scantily clad women to drum up business. Or touting the "free" meals we fed to the homeless and needy daily. OR virtue signaling in any way for that manner. Call me old school, but I just prefer authentic over creating characters to cater to the online trends that manipulate the sheeple for financial gain for oneself. No matter what it cost me in terms of subscribers, views, etc...I'd rather be myself. But then again, consumers are the ones responsible for these, in my opinion, slimy tactics existing. And that's why I call them out too.
@Lawn_Care2 жыл бұрын
lol so true :) I was thinking of the word "exploitation" and then you said it (about the "free" jobs). We all know why they are doing it and that it still costs them money and time to do the work. Now we will all have to create a video with a scantily clad woman in the thumbnail, a soil test, and a "free" mowing and yard clean up job for an elderly exploitee and watch the ad revenue roll in :) Should be able to buy better equipment in no time? :)

The biggest lawn care trend in my humble opinion is for these channels to stop listening to the “docs” or “Lawncare nuts” of the world. I rather listen to people who do it for a living. I would ask my Walmart greeter for tax advice right?
@BudgetLawns2 жыл бұрын
I think a line can be drawn between listening to pros vs the average homeowner. No doubt you’ll get the most accurate advice from the educated ones who do it for a living. However, I enjoy seeing what other people are doing and how they see success even if it’s not by the pro plan. I get what you’re saying though and agree for the most part. Thanks dude.

I hadn't seen the thumbnails w/women being used...so must not watch that channel. There is ALOT of new KZbinrs out there who've jumped on the bandwagon, creating the same kind of content because they're smart enough to know these other guys are making bank. That gets a bit tedious. I can appreciate that KZbinrs make bank. Bout time the little guy is able to, with as little (or big) as their single voice is, make decent money, and not have to call themselves slaves to the old system..(to some degree)..at the same time helping someone else along a bit. I suppose we all have sharing/caring/personal growth that puts us where we find ourselves, doing what we all do. I can appreciate the trend of doing for others. But, like you said, unless there is honest motivation to do it for truly free, it is just exploitation looking for recognition.
@BudgetLawns2 жыл бұрын
Great comment. Appreciate your input and see your points. Thanks so much for watching!
@Brettsgrasscapades2 жыл бұрын
I totally get your take on the “free” videos. Those guys are definitely making money hand over fist on the ones that blow up, however does making money off of it negate the good deed? Just because the motive is to make money doesn’t make the actual act of service for the individual less valuable to the one who received it. There’s definitely no way those kinds of videos will go away any time soon though since KZbin pushes that type of content so hard.
@BudgetLawns2 жыл бұрын
I thought I made it very clear that the good deeds are valuable and the problem is the misconception of viewers who buy into the "free." And yes, you're right. They aren't going anywhere any time soon.

@@BrettSucks I don’t recall him doing a video like Travis was talking about 🤷♂️ if I’m understanding him correctly he’s talking about folks doing videos like “I mowed a lawn that hadn’t been mowed in a year and you’ll never guess what we found” types. I’m more sticking up for content creators in general. KZbin is rewarding those types of videos by pushing them to the masses so I don’t blame anybody for making videos like that. To be honest I’m surprised nobody from the diy lawn community has made a video like that.
@BudgetLawns2 жыл бұрын
@@Brettsgrasscapades Integrity. Believe it or not, I had the idea of doing that exact thing when I first started this channel 3.5 years ago. I just couldn't fathom playing the "look at me. look at how great of a person I am game". It would be disingenuous and unauthentic. But if you're cool with doing whatever it takes to make a buck, you do you. But at some point, as a society, we have to step back and ask where the decline in honest wage earning stops. I mean, look around. The more we condone online exploitation and manipulation, it will only get worse. Our kids will think it's okay to lie and act like fools online for money. Or even worse, do Onlyfans to become a millionaire. Morals and ethics have to rise to the surface at some point or we're doomed. You're either part of the problem or part of the solution. Sure, using lawn care as an example of this may be a bit extreme, but the fact that it follows the same equation as all the others makes it fair game.
@Brettsgrasscapades2 жыл бұрын
@@BudgetLawns not sure if you’re accusing me of not having integrity or manipulation on this one, I’m a bit confused by your comment here Travis. I’ll rephrase what I was trying to say before. I think KZbin is showing a demand for these type of “look how virtuous I am I’m doing good” videos across all genres and creators are supplying these videos. I don’t see anything wrong with them as real people are getting helped (in some cases I suspect things are very rigged or staged). You and I both know as creators that these people are making big money off of doing so and your take is it’s disingenuous saying you’re doing something for free when in fact you’re making lots more off the video than the customer would have paid you. I think that we really only differ in our thoughts on that last part. I don’t see a problem with people making money off that. I think you’re stretching a bit by jumping from that to OF but I can see where you’re going with that.
