In Oz, Landscaping is landscape construction, then there’s softscaping. Garden maintenance covers lawns, garden maintenance.

I understand completely what he’s saying now in regards to trimming the shrubs etc. beyond March. Basically they get it all really tight and right in the winter time and then in the spring and summer they just don’t let it get out of hand they just maintain it. Keith at first I was not quite sure how everything was going to be taken care of if they stopped doing the projects like trimming. But he’s really not stopping trimming. It’s just quick trims I was scratching my head and really trying to wrap my mind around it , but I get what he saying now. I guess I was just trying to relate to it from my perspective. I kinda like his message and winter is coming up so I might give that a try.

I’m picking up everything he’s putting down. Me and this guy are definitely kindred spirits in lawn care. It seems like we’ve been doing it the same amount of time.

Thanks for the content Mack and Keith. From 2016 to 2021 I moved to a smaller city about 45 minutes from my home. I started up a lawn and landscape company and within 2 years another local landscape company noticed my work and made me an offer to buy his company. During these years I had alot of success quick and had several of my landscape design jobs featured in a local magazine. Had great employees that wanted to work and I noticed that people are the greatest thing to invest in and it showed because they took care of me. Covid hit and I lost every employee but 1 so I made the decision to move to Florida and buy a guy out there and moved my family. Well the business ended up not being what I was sold so I backed out. Long story short we spent a year there and moved back to my hometown. I started helping my father mowing about 30 lawns and decided to just grow what we had into a family business and I've doubled it within a year going into our 3rd season and I have to say this time around things are not falling into place the same way. I don't really understand what's going on because I was able to be so successful in a town I had to network my ass off before I knew anybody and here I am in my hometown and the struggle is real.

Yo Mack, I do the same thing with keeping it low stress, quality of life, easy maintenance only on a full-service scope. And I break it down to customers the same way. It never gets away from you and we average it into a monthly cost that is ongoing from April to November. The only thing I will say, that I think Keith was tryna pick around to find out, is that we DO have what I call an “initial heavy lift” when we take on new clients. If their yard is out of hand from lack of service it takes us a good bit (1-3 days) at their property to get it up to standards. But from there, we add them to the normal routine portfolio and keep up on it like u do. This helps us maintain a long term relationship with the client as no one knows their yard and where we left off better than us

Congrats gentleman!!! I work full time with benefits, and do lawn care on the side. I dont have a lof of clients but I want to start growing if I can get my sidekick to step up. This year looking forward to see my clients which are not much like 7 but looking to add more clients. I operate out of my mini van so you guys know how that goes. I'm a little nervous on investing in a trailer because I feel like I need a little bit more clients to offset cost. Any advice or suggestions? Forgot I also did gutters last year Keith for the first time 😁 thanks to your advice!!!!

You can do anything you want as long as you manage good book keeping and accounting. As long as you are making the correct profit (for you and your business) you can do what ever you want. It does help if you can stream line though.

I love it. Know your skillset, master it, never bow down. I operate similarly. Basic Lawn Maintenance is every two weeks to weekly (depending on turf type and necessity) All clients must have CC on file in order to be on schedule at all. Payments for both month's visits are drafted upon first service visit. Any service other than edging, mowing and blowing are a la carte items on a completely separate invoice and likely, a different day (unless it makes sense to do it on their lawn route day as well) Any services are drafted when we pull up. Card acting funky? Text and a skip. Keep it moving. All other services/invoices are deposit for scheduling, half up front, remaining upon completion and before leaving property. Just is what it is. I like saying no. 24:16 Hahahaha

We did over 225k this year JUST me and my WIFE , so we’re paying a good bit in taxes. How do you YOU CHARGE TWO DOLLARS to redefine a bed edge?!?!?! How are you surviving and paying taxes?? If we do monthly bed maintenance, we do 150-200 per month and do it all but that’s a small part of our business. These regular maintenance homes take 2 ppl 40-mins to one hour and we will do all our regular maintenance clients in two days
