very good explanation of how these relays work. The two sets of contacts on each relay. One set is normally open. (N/O) and a normally closed (N/C) contact. They are simple once you understand what is going in inside. You did a great job explaining this.

Thank you very much. This was a great explanation and demonstration on how the relay functions and how to test it. Following your example, I was able to confirm I had a good relay on my Scag Tiger Cub while troubleshooting a no start condition. I ultimately discovered I had a bad starter solenoid.

I have a scag tiger cat that won’t start. When you turn the key switch on you can hear a clicking sound coming from the PTO clutch. How do you test the electric module on the scag.

Dixie chopper only starts when positive connector touches hot side battery. Used to start with key but was 75 amp boost started and fryed something? Possibly relay burnt? Thanks.

I have a kubota s125 commander it's a 2016. It will not start. I think it could be the parking break. I bought a new battery and solenoid. It started working for a few weeks. Now it's doing the same thing just clicks. The starter turns over when I take it out and put power to it. Any ideas? I don't have a meter to test anything.

I have a toro lx500 and the pto relay keeps going bad. I am buying the cheep ones instead of toro $50 plus ones. Is this why they go bad or is there another problem? Thanks ahead of time.

Scag Turf Tiger EFI 29 hp Kawasaki I'm getting an intermittent engine cutting out as I cut grass . It does it without the POT on also. It sometimes feel lightly and sometimes almost dies out but comes back to life. I've have had this problem before and replaced fuel relay and main relay but just when I think it's fix , it starts happening again. I've looked the wire plugs over and cleaned them found nothing . It acts like a loose connection but I don't see any. I replaced the fuel pump .

MM1- i have a Husqvarna (ayp) tractor that is a no start. I have checked continuity of the brake switch, seat switch, key switch and put on a new solenoid. When i turn the key to run and pull the pto, the magnets engage on the pto. At the solenoid, i get 12.5v from the battery terminal, i hear the solenoid tick so i know its energized, but the white wire on the left side shows no volts when the key is on run.. I am stumped. Hope its the relay.

Yes. I finally found it and stumbled on another issue in the process. The relay had black electrical tape covering the terminals, I unwrapped it and found a disconnected ground wire. Once it ran, (I was happy at that), I blew fuses. I traced the wires from the fuse up to a zip tie that came from the factory. It was so tight the wires cracked with age and it caused a short. Electrical taped that, now it runs.

Disconnect the wires to the coil, if spark returns then you know the coil is good and that you have a component on the mower side that has failed

@@THEMOWERMEDIC1 disconnected wires to the coil(kill wires)..still no spark..it could only be coils no correct?.. the engine isn't interacting with any of the bank of 6 relays now,telling it not to spark..its just flywheel coils and magnet correct?..I'll check coils for resistance, strange both would go bad over the winter.

I could use some help. JD LX178, was running and cutting fine and then intermittently, the PTO clutch would fail (while engaged). I suspected the switch and ordered a new one. Now the engine starts fine after reconnecting the battery but will not restart unless I remove ground and then reattach ground to battery. I have not tested the clutch for fear of doing deeper damage. Thanks.

Howdy! got a toro diesel z master, starts fine, dies when I release the parking brake. I have checked all switches, replaced switch at parking brake, no difference. seat switch has been disconnected and a jumper installed (connection tight) pto switch shows to be good, seems to be grounded good also. fuses are good. just about pulled what hair I have left out! any ideas?

My relay clicks when I try to start my gravely zt34 model#915146. For some reason I'm not getting 12v to my small brown and white wire to my solenoid. Relay,solenoid,brake switch,battery,coil,carburetor,and key switch is brand new. I've had to rewire using a diagram that I've gotten from jacks small engines online. The carburetor solenoid gets power because I can hear clicking but relay clicks with it. I burned the diode near electric clutch.

+Thetube777 I found the problem yesterday evening, It has a relay (NXCEC 0 332 204 150 12V 30A) that is located under the panel with the hours meter and the key switch the relay was bad. What this relay does is it is activated by the safety switches which then disables everything. By removing the relay everything works. Just opposite of the way I was thinking,

I have a Walker Diesel Zero Turn Mower (MDD, 20 HP engine). A week ago, I replaced the battery with a new battery. The lawn mower worked well for 30 minutes. Then the mower at times started to stop only when I would try to make it go forward or try to engage the mower blades. I am able to move the mower backwards without any problems. The engine runs well on idle. When I turn the ignition key on or start the engine, the fuel solenoid does engage (not able to move the solenoid linkage rod). When I turn off the ignition key to off, then the fuel actuating solenoid gets released (able to move the solenoid linkage rod). I am perplexed not sure what is preventing the mower from moving forward. I would appreciate any suggestion that you may be able to offer.

yes, I found the switch under the seat to be defective, I disconnected it and the tractor started. Thank you for your suggestion

thanks, Im a little confused as you seem to have two red live cables connected to the outer spades direct from a 12v battery?Ive removed 5 safety switches, tested all and reset. (brake, blades, seat, bagger, bagger full) Ive replaced the starter solenoid, magneto to the spar, new spark, checked all the continuity from battery to starter solenoid, solenoid to starter motor... checked grounds are all tight....all seems fine, but still no start...6 weeks Ive been tinkering...of and new fuse, new carb. tested ignition switch...had the deck off and renovated and reset...completely dumbstruck now...anybody have a clue? its an mtd1392r with Tecumseh engine...all mechancical things are fine. fly wheel turning ...have I missed something?

Before replacing the module and watching some more videos I went home and was able to jump start the mower with my truck (with the truck shut off) it started after a minute being hooked on the battery. After running it and getting it back to its storage / parking spot I trickle charged it back to normal.
