Here's a tip, why do you think, the old snappers had the engine facing the way it does, 2 reasons really, so you could tip the mower on its side to change the blade, and not worry about getting oil in the carb or muffkin, and anyone who had a steep grade lawn could mow side to side, and not have the problem this guy's has.... By having the engine facing front to back instead of side to side, the oil stays in the engine, and doesn't come out the carb or muffkin.

Good video, mine is doing the exact same thing…so I know what to check on. It would have been nice to see the mower running after the repair/tune up. If you would have paused the the video and just cranked it up at the end that would have been great. But anyways thanks for making this, I have a good starting point now and also an old engine for extra parts, so hopefully it’s that part…either loose or bad, and will be an easy fix.

I spent the first half of the video wondering if he was addressing the blowing oil issue or just first addressing the owner's DIY repair. Second half just left me confused as to why the muffler issue had anything to do with the blowing oil problem; just overheating? Found this from YT search because I have an old Kohler M18 in a Cub Cadet 1811 that quickly blows massive amounts of oil (& gas?) out the top of the carburetor. Help diagnosing appreciated.
@mjg2634 жыл бұрын
Ha, as soon as you said “he cut something out” I just knew it was the Auto-Joke thermo lever! Nice diagnosis on the operator error 👍. FWIW I always say tip it carburetor side up instead of muffler side down. Tecumseh and older Briggs have the muffler and the carb on the same side, and in my mind the really important thing is that the carb faces up to the sky. BTW - yes have heard that popping and sizzling sound before, it’s the needle valve seat leaking. Just got done with a Craftsman with an early version of the 7 hp Intek that was doing that. Removed the seat, polished the seat cavity and needle valve tip, installed a new seat and it’s good as new.

LOL, GOOD GUESS ON THE CUT OUT! I'm glad I went to his house, I was able to idenity the issue off the bat. I'm GUARANTEE if I didn't most likely would have wound up back in the driveway! Thanks for the tip...I'm ahead on content. This video is month or two OLD...so far so good! WOOOHOOOO!

I have this same mower got it for free but it sat outside. The bail cable was frozen and the front wheels. Got them unfrozen cleaned the carb and got it running but the cable broke off where it goes on the bail. That looks like the exact same set up did that one have two cable that hooked in to the bail? And what does the cable do that's going to the back of the deck?
@pattayperformance4 жыл бұрын
Ok...so these mower's have a feature called bagging assist. When you pull up the grass flap to remove the bag, the flap locks in open position. Install bag, hit the bail cable and grass flap goes down. EXCELLENT QUESTION BY THE WAY!

@@pattayperformance I simply just changed the blade. Tipped it over. I guess carburetor down.. can't even remember. But when I started it again.. white smoke came out the muffler for like 20 seconds. And then it stopped ran normal.. while I attempted to put it under a load. Into high grass. It started bogging down.. losing power. Idle began to go high. Normal then bogged down.. normal then bogged down.. so I just let it idle and it went back to normal again.. sounded fine.. attempted to put it back under load of high grass and bogged down again losing power.. what do you suggest I do?
