I talked to a woman I met in a bar who said she was a Republican and tried to make fun of Biden by saying he couldn’t even talk. I asked her if stumbling over a few words had anything to do with character and whether the character of a politician mattered to her. She admitted that stumbling over a few words had nothing to do with character and that character did matter a great deal to her. So I asked her how good the character of a person with 14 pending civil lawsuits and 5 pending criminal lawsuits, who admitted cheating on every spouse, who lies constantly, who tried to overthrow a legitimate election, who all but admitted cheating on his taxes could possibly be? She said not good at all. So then I asked her why she was a Republican and she said because she’d been raised that way from when she was little. I asked her if she thought it was right for parents to force their politics on a child before the child can even decide and she admitted that was not a good thing for parents to do. So next I asked her if she had really studied the issues and she admitted she had not. So I briefly went through some of the issues without telling her where each party stood on the issues and after she had sided with the Democrat position on every issue, I explained that to her. Finally, I suggested that rather than vote based on how she was indoctrinated as a child, wouldn’t it be better if she studied the issues for herself and then voted for the candidate who held the same positions that she did. She admitted that would make more sense. All this being said, after 15 minutes of cordial talking and use of logic, I may have actually converted someone or at the least, got them to study the issues so she knows where she and the candidates stand on the issues. Very proud of myself and I hope to have another chance to do it again.

While the New York Post article IS a solid burn....especially the buried headline on the front page: "Florida man makes announcements." lol....that's too good. BUT.....isn't it a bit absurd how FAST their opinion of him changed? Same goes for the GOP as a whole. They bailed on him SO fast, after years of total deference. It makes me wonder....what even ARE these people's values? It seems to be nothing but naked power at any cost. But that's so.....empty. Their criteria for candidates seems to be.... If you can win them that power....then you're perfect and without flaw, even if you're the polar opposite of what they claim to value most in life. And if you can't win them that power....you're invisible and don't matter. The irony and karma IS beautiful....given that's precisely the transactional nihilism Trump himself always practiced. But......does the modern conservative world actually have ANY values...or goals? Do they actually stand for anything of substance? All the things they claimed to value....they dumped the moment they realized Trump could win them power. It's just weird.... Liberals, for all our flaws, at least have values and ethics and goals in mind. We wouldn't support someone who was 100% antithetical to ALL our values....just because we were convinced they could win some fleeting contest.
