It doesn't matter what you do everyone will have a better way to do it so just keep on going. It's great watching you do this in a small 2 car garage it shows that it can be done. I love your little quirks it reminds us to pay attention to detail. An eighth of an inch isn't much but when your goal is 8 seconds it can mean the difference between success or disaster. I would be welding a thick grade 8 washer with the proper sized hole as a doubler plate on the outer side of the A arm hole you corrected. Usually means using the next smaller washer and drilling that to the desired size. Tougher steel than mig welded repair and will increase the load bearing area.

@LawrenceTolman

a 3/4 ton frame would be stronger, and would also let me run the bigger front diff, but its also heavier, and would require 8 lug wheels. Plenty of guys are building fast 4wd stuff with a 1500 frame, so I am hoping it will work out for me as well

Since the ugly truck is on a diet, you should swiss cheese the frame and dimple die the holes. In theory, done right, the dimples might even stiffen the frame but likely it will just be lighter and about just as stiff.
