My first train set, about 1965, was a blue 0-4-0 diesel (clockwork powered!) with one open wagon and a guard's van! By Tri-ang Hornby naturally. Seeing this really took me back.

You know Lawrie, one thing you've done here is prove to a legion of people that the starter train sets we all had/have, have a prototype. And frankly I fail to see the problem with that. As the old saying goes, "There's a prototype for everything."
@blackstone1a
@blackstone1a 4 ай бұрын
I've come across vids of Norfolk and Western 611 hauling 1890s woodside coaches tender first and photos of 4449 in her American Freedom Train getup helping the Burlington Northern with a freight run following her restoration, you look hard enough you can find a prototype for any event, and even if you can't only the most obnoxious rivet counters are gonna be mad, and let them

The more I watch of your channel, Lawrie, the more I hate it that I'm stuck on _entirely_ the wrong side of The Pond to come to these events and help out myself as part of it all. It honestly genuinely almost physically hurts.

@@warhamsterful Been there several times. My mother was a lawyer from 2000 through 2007, made pretty decent money, although nothing like the hotshots you see playing legal eagle on the telly. Middle of 2007 she started acting kinda funny, turns out her primary doc misunderstood something from literally a bit over a decade prior, round about 1994 I'm pretty sure, and over the next half year it really started catching up to her. Things... did not go well. She's badly disabled, now, and I've been disabled in my own way for life. We're now both flat broke, and stuck wasting away in this tiny little hick town in the middle of North Carolina. The people here are so backcountry, in that grand old American way (for the humorless: that was _extremely_ sarcastic) that even their thoughts seem to run backwards. There's nothing to do, no jobs, and almost no housing, and there's hardly even anywhere to go anyways. It's _awful_ -- but I can't afford a plane ticket and I don't know how to sail or swim. Believe me, I'd be there if I could, my soul forever pines for a flat in London. Heck, I'd try for citizenship if I could, no joke. But, alas, it's not to be. I can't afford to go on holiday like that (and the politicians would have a field day with me if I did, look up some time what the term "welfare queen" means in this overly weedy cesspool of a country) and it's not like I can get anyone over there to sponsor me in the way I'd have to if I was able to get serious about immigrating. At least there are people like Lawrie and Jago Hazzard and Dale Charman here on KZbin where I can sit at my computer screen and remember the good times and try not to cry.

At least she is running well and it does look like one of the Hornby sets with the 0-4-0 Barclay or Bagnall diesel shunter from the drone view. One modification I would do is put a tool box cabinet in the cab like what we have in ours at Bewdley, which stores useful tools, battery charger and cleaning items.

Awesome Job, Lawrie! Good job on giving this wonderful fella a new home. If, or more likely, “When” the time comes, when Port Talbot Steelworks decide to replace their old Bagnall Shunters from the mid 1950s with the expanded fleet of Clayton Battery Diesel hybrid shunters, why not contact Port Talbot Steelworks about buying one or two of their Bagnall shunters? They are as follows. The Brush Bagnall 0-4-0DE locos, which are numbers 501, its only working one left, plus there’s 506 and 509 which are up for sale, possibly for preservation, or scrap. Cuz they’re small, they may be the cheapest. Plus there’s the larger Brush Bagnall Bo-Bo diesels, numbers 901, 903, 905 and 906, which are all still working to this day, but their days are most likely numbered. They’re probably more pricey cuz they’re bigger, but never say never. If not you, then let’s hope there are railways willing to preserve all these vintage shunters.

It's nice to see these machines being preserved and not scrapped. Also that engine could use some cleaner in the fuel to help the engine and it needs to be ran for a long time to clean up or it could just be old fuel. Have some people in my area that have steam traction engines and older tractors mainly. Nearest steam preservation railway I know of is the Silverton Durango Trains. Hope to see more of the other train soon as an update on what you have found with it.

Nope, with your binaural opinion, that's a myth, they work incredibly well with neck speakers, and correctly positioned speakers. You should try it with some examples on our channel, even placing headphones under each ear works quite well, especially with perceptions from above.

Not sure sizewise if doable, but if you can get both this and the 48 on a lorry in one hit, what about organising a return to CVR some time and do something along with Ollies 88? nice to see the old beast that Lawrie saved perhaps the Ruston is secretly happy that it was saved from going to the scrappers much as id wanted to contribute to it and went able to still support Lawrie's idea to save it as i kind of do that with model buses in good condition if ive spare bits from scrapped ones ill re use the axels to give them another chance to life or if needs be ill move some to new homes to a few friends for a retake to life 0:33 kind of looks as if Lawrie's other loco is looking happy knowing it was saved from scrap just thought of a name idea for it should Lawrie ever decide to name it could call it ''team LMM ''or just name it Lawrie after him self

You could buy a better phone :O) Seriously though, try it with headphones or ear buds, but not at full volume, as the volume is the perspective control.

Putting "last ever train" in your caption like that can come across as very misleading. I searched for the CVR and your video, as the most recent upload, came up first. I was surprised to see "last ever train" on your thumbnail, it could lead people to believe that the CVR is closed and this was the last train, which it wasn't. You obviously know your social media and KZbin quite well, how did you not think that this could come across as mis leading, or is this to get you more views through a shock header? Clickbait thumbnail, essentially.

Because most people can read the title of the video

@@lmm wow.... to the person who is just scrolling through "last ever train" sounds like you're implying that this is the last ever train on the cvr. Can you not see how it could come across. When you put "last EVER....." On a thumbnail or title, it implies that the place is closing down or has already done so.

@@Faulty720 "Last Ever" implies it's the "Last Ever" which for the 165 it is. Which again, it clearly states in the video title. It also doesn't mention the CVR in the thumbnail. To confirm it is the Colne, you'd need to read the title.

@@lmm 🙄 oh well I tried.... Just to clarify, you search for the CVR On KZbin. Your video pops up and the first thing the viewer is drawn to is the caption "last ever...." In the thumbnail. They Know it's the CVR already, presumably as they've just searched for it.

@@Faulty720 KZbin will frequently bring up results which are similar to what you searched for. I'm sure someone might look at the thumbnail, and then they'll read the title of the video.
