Thank you for the video and to explain your modifications on the hammock. I was thinking to do the same on mine but with velcro to velcro from the hammock to my sleeping bag with a little bit of sewing to avoid the weight of the iron loops. Thank you again for your review.
@theauthenticadventurer4 жыл бұрын
That sounds like a great idea too! I was just concerned about the velcro wearing away too quickly with repeated use which is why I went with the metal adjusters. Thanks for the comment! Glad you liked it!

Just found your channel a few weeks ago. I'm really enjoying your video's. You do a great job of explaining things. I have an older model Lawson. I sewed a sleeve onto the bottom to make it a double layer hammock. Now I can slide my pad in and it stays in place. This does make it a bit heavier but it is worth it for the comfort. In cold weather I place a space blanket over the pad and it keeps me toasty warm. I also tie out the four corners with shock cord because the hammock can be a bit tipsy. Nice review. Keep those video's coming. Your doing a great job. Enjoy & be safe out there!

Do you get any leg hyper extension with this hammock or is it a fairly flat lay? Great review by the way, one of the best I've seen.
@theauthenticadventurer3 жыл бұрын
Aw thank you so much for such a kind comment! I've never experienced that with the hammock, but I'm also a side sleeper so I don't think I ever would. I would say it's a fairly flat lay compared to most hammocks I've tried though. Hope that helps!

Thanks so much for this video! Very thorough and very well done. I would be interested in what you do with your gear. Specifically, do you bring gear, clothes, other things into the hammock itself? Wonder if you feel crowded by that. I do motorcycle camping, and I tend to like to sleep with my gear in the tent. I do have a hammock set up (Eno Double) with a gear loft. Just curious about your thoughts about how you deal with all your other stuff. Thanks!
@theauthenticadventurer3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind comment! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Since I primarily canoe trip with my hammock, I usually have a waterproof pack with me on my trips that I keep most of my gear in overnight. I keep the bag sealed and sat just below my hammock or at the base of the tree. I do usually fill the two pockets in my hammock with my glasses case, phone, power bank, book, etc., as well as have a small clothes bag that I keep by my feet. I don't find that it bothers me, but I also don't move around too much. I also often hang either some string lights between the two loops so the light is out of my way, close to the top of the hammock, or I hang a small lantern or headlamp from the loop above my feet which I could see bothering some people. I suppose it really comes down to personal preference.

@@theauthenticadventurer Thanks so much for the thorough reply. I am torn--I sleep well in my Eno Doublenest, but it's a lot of stuff to set up (more complex than my MSR HubbaHubba NX tent). Still, I'm leaning to the Lawson or perhaps one of the Sierra Madre solutions. Your videos is super helpful.

Would love to hear more about the underquilt and other lawson accessories if you have them. I've been using Hennessy Hammocks since 2003 however I can see some real advantages in the system you have (also a few downsides, mainly the weight). Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the video. How's the Lawson holding up over time? Are you still happy with it?
@theauthenticadventurer2 жыл бұрын
I'm still extremely happy with my Lawson! I still have yet to use it in a bivvy setup too much, but I love using it as a hammock for backcountry camping. I've had no issues, and it's still performing just as well as when I first got it
@tonylucente26742 жыл бұрын
@@theauthenticadventurer One more question: Do you think 2 or 3 bungies over the sleeping would be sufficient to hold the sleeping pad in place or is your system required?
@theauthenticadventurer2 жыл бұрын
@@tonylucente2674 some bungees over the sleep pad would probably be sufficient to hold it in place. My only concern would be that you would likely feel those bungee cords beneath you as you're sleeping - that's why I opted for the sheet modification so that I wouldn't feel any extra straps or anything below me. Hope that helps!
@tonylucente26742 жыл бұрын
@@theauthenticadventurer Thx for your help and in case you're interested, I decided to go with the Aerial A1 by Opeongo because the design & setup seemed sturdier than the Lawson - no tipping over.
@theauthenticadventurer2 жыл бұрын
@@tonylucente2674 oh that's a cool option! I've never seen that before, but looks like it will be a good setup! A little too heavy for my use, but if it suits your needs, that seems like a great option
@andrewsmith9412 жыл бұрын
So how high would you suggest the hammock to be for getting inside it. Waist high or above or below to make it easier.
@theauthenticadventurer2 жыл бұрын
I usually set mine up around waist height or a little below. Ideally you want to be able to sit down on it as soon as you're turned backwards to it, without having to go up on tip toes or anything
@andrewsmith9412 жыл бұрын
Just curious as to approximately how many times you have used it and how it is holding up.
@theauthenticadventurer2 жыл бұрын
I've used my hammock at least a dozen times now and have had zero issues with it - I'm still just as happy with how it performs. Hope that helps!
@andrewsmith9412 жыл бұрын
Back again what straps are you using that has all the loops?
@theauthenticadventurer2 жыл бұрын
They were just ones I had bought off amazon - If you just search hammock straps you will find lots of similar options from different brands. I believe Lawson has also now come out with loop style straps like mine as well, but I'll see if I can find the actual link to the straps I have.
You will probably get tired of me but what is the minimum and maximum width between 2 trees can this hammock be set up?
@theauthenticadventurer2 жыл бұрын
Haha, I never mind answering questions! The maximum is dependent on the straps you have and how long they reach - really any distance is possible. For minimum, I don't have an exact number, but I'd say its on par with most hammocks. I just try to ensure that I'm getting my straps to around a 30 degree hang (point your pointer finger and raise your thumb and make sure they can both touch your strap at the same time). If the strap is pitched too steep and you can't tighten the straps anymore so the hammock is closer to the tree, you may need to find trees further apart to ensure your hammock lays flat. I hope that helps!
