How you love this board 1 to10?.i love the v3 so much. I want to try this one
@lawson45uk2 жыл бұрын
Yeah great board just more specific for wave range. If you have the V3 that's already a great board. You may or may not like the Uber XL slightly more in certain conditions. I find the Uber excellent in shoulder to head and a bit where as the V3 will run a bit wider range by all accounts. The VG is a little older so that's more like a rocket ish back end and tail width but with a bit tighter nose and a decent bit of rocker for what it is. I would give them both an 8. Uber might be 8.5 sometimes for the right rider in the right conditions and a 7 in the wrong conditions but the V3 will probably an 8 most of the time if that helps. I think it starts getting to very personal choice when you get to that zone so hard to say if you would like it more less or same than the V3 from the feedback I have had. It's like I love the quiver and psycho killer boards but not everyone does and the ones that dont often prefer something like the V3 or Uber. Cheers.

hello loving the reviews and am wondering how you would compare the paddling, stability and forgiveness between the xl and rocket and which one you prefer in slightly larger waves? on the fence between the 2 and any insight would help. thanks
@lawson45uk4 жыл бұрын
Cheers Sam.. Yeah tough one there both great boards from what I have ridden of them. The rocket is designed for the smaller wave end so carries a little more speed and maybe paddles a touch better per volume as the nose rocker is a little lower and it’s a slightly wider nose and board. I think the Uber XL is one of the best boards for average guys in a hybrid shape that’s as close to a “short board” characteristics as most of us regular joes really need these days.. I think the Xl has little tighter wave range maybe.. It’s definitely more narrow in the tail so will need like shoulder high to shine but will still probably get overwhelmed with well overhead but we don’t get big waves locally.. 4-6 is a once a year event here and it’s usually not that good to surf… But yeah Rocket is definitely aimed at lower nose rocker, wider nose, wider tail and uber XL is a little more performance orientated design but still super forgiving. Rocket also a long single concave.. Not everyone likes that. I like both the boards a lot myself but the Uber Xl Is a stand out out of what I have ridden over the years.. The Quiver / Psycho Killer are good options too if you want a big range but they will be a little less hot doggy as a sacrifice but they paddle great and handle a big range. Psycho more nimble and needs less of a wave quiver killer I use for overhead plus though it will ride down. If you’re a decent rider, have a small wave board/grovel board and don’t need it for big big waves or have a step up too the Uber would be a great daily. If you like speed in average waves 2-3 ft upto head and a bit the Rocket Redus is good too. Also has a lot to do with the rocker you like and the concaves that you like.. Rocket has a slightly more accelerated tail rocker for something with a flat nose rocker.. Uber is similar or less tail flick but more nose rocker.. Also always hear good things about V3 Rockets and the Mini Driver is good too if you want other options for slightly bigger waves… I know confusing right…. Let me know if you need any more info hope that helps.. Probably the Uber XL or possibly even something that will handle an even bigger wave is what I think your asking for?? Rocket and Uber both forgiving stable and paddle well.
@samnorrad60964 жыл бұрын
haha no worries the more info the better! do a lot of hiking in and can't really see what the waves are doing till I'm on the Beach. so am looking for an allround shortboard thats forgiving/paddles half decent and works up to a little overhead. hard to see by the vid exactly how boxy the rails are and if it has a bit to much entry rocker to be a good paddler... but i gotta think at first glance that the udxl will still go good in better head high waves digging your self shaped vids as well as I've some friends who are getting into it and.... I thought you guys got big waves down there lolz

@@samnorrad6096 Cant remember if I mentioned it in the reply but have you considered the Psycho Killer too? That goes nearly as fast as a rocket and will ride a bigger wave range than the Uber and the Rocket. I really like mine.. Just a thought :-) Ah we get good waves and bigger if you travel around a bit,. but I tend to mainly surf locally and it's more of a large sheltered bay that's not quite exposed to direct swell the same as other places. Cheers

G'day Chris. Sorry if I got ya name wrong as you never introduce yourself at the beginning of videos. Anyways, really digging ya reviews but you've left me hanging on one board that you did a pre-ride review on and I'm looking at buying it. The Superbrand Serial Keeler..... Very interested in your ride review on it before I purchase. Keep the content coming mate 👍.

Mark Trevor Hey Mark. All good mate.. It’s Dave 😉… Ah did I not follow up on the serial Keeler… Yeah very pleased with that board mate, changed the fins up to the new CI Keels and had it out in waist through to head high waves.. Great twin fin board, really has some good control and speed without being skittish with the fin plugs being positioned back rather than trying to get a 5 fin board to be a well behaved keel with the fins too far forward. Looks great, well finished, it’s got some great performance elements. Sharp ride in a variety of conditions. I wouldn’t call it a real low end grovel board myself but for our small waves you really need a bit of a beast of a board so it might grovel well depending on what your used to… It’s got a lot of Vee with double inside so feels a little different to your single double vee type board, in a good way…. Reasonably priced too… Anything else you wanted to know more specific just let me know.. the Surfboard Guide did a review too. Craig is a nice guy.. He said he liked it. Cheers.

Did you prefer the psycho killer or the uber, have u tried either in the carbon wrap construction?thanks
@lawson45uk Жыл бұрын
Hi Tim. Think I may have commented on this a few times. It’s a little hard to detail everything but summing up I would say I prefer the psycho personally as an all rounder for me as it will go in a wider range of conditions however I would say the Uber would have the edge on performance slightly in its ideal conditions. Basically the psycho is a little more parallel outline and slightly more tail area so will generate a bit more speed in the smaller stuff but also grips well in the bigger waves. The Uber xl I found great in say shoulder to a bit overhead for me personally and it would probably perform a little better for those who can harness that squash tail performance. I found it a little harder to keep going in a smaller wave and a little less grippy in a bigger wave than the psycho. Construction I personally prefer the grip and sureness of PU for waves head and up and enjoy the lively feel of the carbon wraps in smaller waves but again that can be a very personal choice and I was riding high volume to weight so the EPS boards could be a bit too corky sometimes. Carbon wraps are definitely one of the better feeling eps epoxies out there though. Hope that helps. Cheers.

Hey mate how does the Uber driver XL at 40Litres compare paddling wise to your PJHP at 41Litres. Does the 1 litre make a difference or is it negligible?
@lawson45uk5 жыл бұрын
rafaelbjj85 yeah pretty negligible mate. I was worried about the pjhp not being 42 but it's fine. Probably as much differences in the shapes rocker that would make make more of a difference. Pjhp is wider and bigger nose so a little more stable. Rails are a touch more chunky on the HP but yeah not much in it and I would say mainly due to rockers. HP has a bit much rocker for what it's job is for my liking personally

Thank you for this review. How did you end up with these dimensions, if you don't mind my asking? The website has slightly different ones. I'll probably buy this one custom as well. I was just curious why you went a bit narrower, and a bit thicker than the stock dims for the length.
@lawson45uk3 жыл бұрын
Hey mate. Yeah this is strange as I often modify them slightly but this one was stock at the time as far as I'm aware. Just checked real watersports in the us and it's correct to their dims list too so looks like maybe lost made some changes ?? Maybe go come more in line with the killer and rocket range ?? Not sure but I think half the reason I went for this was 6'2" 21 and 40 litres is exactly the numbers I would choose for me for this kind of board.
@h.peterzimmer8833 жыл бұрын
@@lawson45uk That's interesting. Thanks for the response. If I get this board, I'll probably get those dimensions. Have you had a chance to run it as a quad? Just curious because I prefer them. In fact, if my shaper doesn't think I'm nuts, I'll just get four fin boxes.
@lawson45uk3 жыл бұрын
@@h.peterzimmer883 yeah I ride mine as a quad. fact I ride most of my boards as quads to be honest. Thrusters are too much drag on the local waves. Need to generate speed to make up for the fact the waves are soft. It actually works well as either this one but there is nothing wrong with a squash tail quad at all. Look at the Dominator 2 most prefer that as a quad.

How is the durability of the proformance material? Is this 4x4x4?
@lawson45uk4 жыл бұрын
Yeah no issues so far but obviously depends greatly on the Blank the glassing schedule and who is making it.. Pretty sure mine is 4 4+4 and Tommy Daltons crew made it here in NZ and he's top notch so trusted him to do a good job. Think some other places use even less glass. If you sink decks a lot you could go 4 4+4 but upgrade to one layer being an S Glass layer on the deck. They sure feel good for flex though. Cheeers.

I saw that you also have a review on Lost PHP. Which would you prefer for 2-4 foot onshore waves?
@lawson45uk4 жыл бұрын
martins sleja hmm tough call. Not really ridden the HP all that much to be honest but I would expect that with the width and volume and wide tail it would do pretty well in onshore and the Uber XL ideally wants 3-4ft to get going but the hp also needs a bit of a wave. 2-4 max onshore the OG PJ would probably the the one. The HP gets amazing feedback but for me it's maybe trying to be a few things at once. Like being a PJ but with a good bit more rocker and tighter nose and tail. Would be good in 2/4 onshore. There just different boards really. I'm very happy with that Uber XL. Wouldn't sell that over the HP that's for sure

Hey man, how does this compare to the lost pjhp?
@lawson45uk5 жыл бұрын
Nathan Jones Hi Nathan. So to be fair I haven’t really ridden the PJHP that much, especially in the last wee while.. For me that board has the full 22 width but has quite a lot of rocker.. Personally I would say the standard Puddle Jumper is one of the best boards I have ever ridden for doing the job that it was designed for and this Uber XL is one of the best boards I have ever ridden for doing the job it was designed for. The PJHP is probably trying to be a bit of both. I know people who absolutely love the PJHP though so think it very much depends on you and the waves your riding etc.. I personally would go the Uber XL for when the waves are in the Chest to a bit overhead range and the standard PJ for under head high as a great combo. Hope that helps. Thanks

@@lawson45uk i think the same, you are right for the pj =) the board already trying to be everything the pjhp i think it even more geared to upper range but like you say there are better board around here for that task.
