The canal was great 25 years ago, before everyone started posting blitz reports on the Internet. It was always a popular spot but now it's a zoo.
@Vercingetorix.Fantasia3 жыл бұрын
Its definitely still great. Yes its crowded and yes lots of grogan's but it's no salmon river on Montauk. Besides if the crowds at the canal bother you there are hundreds if mile of shoreline and a crew of wetsuit nuts getting into 30s and 4os from the rocks

@Roel Frias jr XH or XXH 20-50lb mono-30-80lb braid star rods are really good, as well any where from 5k-8k should be more than enough.

Jon B had nothing to do with the canal becoming a zoo, all he did was attract googans to that place. I’ve been fishing the cape since 99 and that canal was bad back then
@Cookerab4 жыл бұрын
Plenty of places to catch stripers from maine down to the nc and probably further south. Grew up on fishers island sound in CT. In the 80s they were few and far between. Since the mid to late 90s it is insane how healthy the fishery is.
@swagdawgwill114 жыл бұрын
@@Cookerab Dude. the striped bass population today is nowhere near what it was like in the early 2000s. If you think the population today is healthy you are out of your mind. Yes, there are pockets of good fishing like block, Montauk the cape and Rhode Island, but their population is nothing compared to what its been. Theres a reason they had to put a slot on these fish last year. Look at the stocks and the statistics of the striper population over the years and ask anyone whose been fhisng for them since the 90s, they would all tell you their numbers are way down
@swagdawgwill114 жыл бұрын
@@lamiglass1 Getting hundreds of thousands of views fishing the canal with 25 pounders every cast definitely had an impact dude. No wonder there hasn't been a crazy run there since 2017, place is getting hammered
