Ozempic has made a huge difference in my diabetes management. My endocrinologist was good about going through side effects, including constipation, which is common. In addition, I investigated possible side effects on my own. Ultimately, people have to be their own advocates, including not using medications off-label.

I’ve been taking ozempic for about 2 years now and lost almost a 100 lbs , I’m type 2 diabetic and seeing a diabetic specialist and being monitored quite well. I’ve had no side effects but everyone is different but I believe it should not be given for weight loss because it would be poorly monitored and Possibly require a person to have problems and side effects ….

The problem is that people are using it for an unintended use, there is no claim, they took a medication that wasn’t meant for their bodies, second part is people are still shoveling their faces full while using the medication creating the gastroperesis. You bosy will literally tell you within a few days of starting that you need to reduce your intake. If you don’t listen to that signal and keep shoveling your going to get sick. These people caused their condition by not following the directions, they will most likely get the case tossed out. They also should not be able to get continued care through the insurance for a condition they caused by taking a medication for an unintended purpose.

@@tiffany.0214 no because medication’s are still approved, and one In five medications prescribed is being prescribed, technically off label, because there are certain conditions that certain medication‘s are known to be acceptable for treating in an off label fashion, and we do it all the time medication’s come out for a certain reason, and after a certain period of time, it becomes well-known and excepted that it can also be used to treat other conditions it’s actually very common. It would be different if a doctor was prescribing a medication completely inappropriate for the diagnosis the thing is every single drug has side effects whether somebody experiences them or not varies person to person greatly, and it depends on the medication and the incidence and spectrum or scope of side effects but there’s no side effect free medication and people are made aware of that whether or not they choose to absorb or give a shit about the side effects is another story, but if a doctor is prescribing a medication for you, that means that we have concluded that the potential for side effects is outweighed by the potential for therapeutic benefit is the persons choice nonetheless whether they want to take or continue taking a medication if they’re noticing undesirable side effects then that’s their responsibility to inform their doctor and unfortunately, when it comes to weight loss, a lot of people will except and are willing to try just about anything regardless of side effects or risk anything that might be a quick fix for them and you can tell them about the side effects all you want but whether or not they’re going to listen or care initially is another story.

I have gastroparesis and knew immediately when I saw the first commercial that it was basically inducing it. I can understand the appeal though…my metabolism is screwed up from years of steroids, on and off malnutrition, and hormones. Plus, the condition that caused my GP severely affects my mobility. Medication assisted weight loss has its place but the problem comes in where it’s simply overweight people using these medications and not people who are obese. Don’t just blindly trust what people tell you to do, even your doctor.

I don’t understand why something like Duromine isn’t being prescribed instead? It speeds up metabolism and tricks the brain into not producing hunger hormones, so you eat less because you don’t feel hunger. Many of these medications are also already approved for off-label use to treat other conditions… in this case, weight loss. This is why insurance companies have been covering it. Every medication has “side effects.” I’m a type 2 diabetic who tried everything to lose weight and reduce my A1C and it wasn’t until I started on Mounjaro that I was able to turn everything around. It took me about 7 months to lose 60 pounds and drop my A1C from 10 to 4.9. I’m the healthiest I’ve been in at least 15 years and I owe it all to Mounjaro. As with any drug, there will always be those that have severe or abnormal reactions but that’s not the majority. I truly believe that big pharma wants to get these drugs off the market bcuz they’re not interested in curing people. There’s no money in that.

I had been pre type 2 diabetic far years, had crossed over diagnose of Type 2 diabetic, my doctor wanted me to try to loose 20 pounds to see if it would bring my A1C down. Sent me to Nurse nutritionist to help me learn how to eat better. This is when I learned about how dangerous ultra processed food is with High fructose Corn Syrup is. This additive is in almost all cereals, soft drinks, everything in a box. I have gone back to eating only fresh or frozen vegetables and organic meats, eat only real organic whole grain bread, cut sugar out of diet. Big food companies just want dollars and it is the reason of obesity and type 2 diabetic in young children, also fatty liver disease. The only way to really win the battle is change diet to basic healthy unprocessed food.

Sugars low, no hunger, no depression or anxiety, no bowel problems, slower digestion, and weight loss of 2 to 2.5 pounds per week. One person had problems - millions who didn’t? Wegovy is approved for weight loss and my doctor prescribed it to me. After just one injection, the first shot at the lowest dose, I had severe side effects within a few hours. Headache, dizziness and projectile nausea and vomiting for 24 hours. Almost landed in the ER. Needless to say I threw away the other injections and never touched it again. These drugs may work for some but for a good number of people it comes with side effects so severe it’s obviously not worth the risk.

That's not always the case mate, I've been overweight for most of my life and have tried all the diets. Yes I've lost weight in the past but it comes back and then some, some doctors say I could have thyroid issues and immune system problems but there is really no way to know definitely. I have high blood pressure and am a perfect case for getting type 2 diabetes down the track, if this product can help me and others like me than why not give it a try? To say that I'm lazy and just want a quick fix is a little insulting... I quit smoking cold turkey when I was about 24. Haven't touched one in 13 years. It was easy for me, but I don't go around telling smokers that they are lazy and they need to put in the hard work... Everyone is different, everyone has different struggles.

The other problem not being discussed with all these types of drugs is when you need surgery. It's a rarer instance I suppose, but if you take one and then need (or want - elective) surgery, your anesthesiologist will have some major concerns. Typically, you need to have nothing in your stomach for fear of aspiration during anesthesia induction. These drugs leave food in your stomach for a much longer period of time. You may need to be npo for a full 24 hours instead of 8 before your surgery time.

Yeah I didn’t understand why one would want to slow their digestion down, like wouldn’t speeding it up but blocking the hunger hormone be more effective for weight loss. Constipation is known to cause 10lb+ of weight gain as all that matter just accumulates in the bowels. It’s why people who take a lot of laxatives lose weight, because their body is flushing out food faster than it can absorb everything from it.

I am on Ozempic for my diabetes. Each pen comes with a large pamphlet in the box that explains ALL of the possible side effects and what to do in case any occur. Unfortunately, too many people can't be bothered to read the information that comes with medication. That is one thing that should always be done, read the paperwork that comes with your medications, including the warning print outs that the pharmacist provides. You may find that there are reasons that you shouldn't be on the medication or will know what to look for as far as side effects go. People need to take more personal responsibility.

I was on Trulicity for about 2 months (something that isn’t quite the same as these but is supposed to have similar results while focusing mainly on directly affecting glucose levels). And I had to go off it because the morning nausea was too much to bear. It warns of nausea if you eat more than you’re supposed to, but I have a very physical job that requires a lot of energy, with very few opportunities to eat throughout the day, so my breakfasts and dinners had to be big. Even when reducing that as much as I could given my work requirements, I was still so nauseous some mornings that I actually had to call out of work! These drugs don’t fit all lifestyles. Lol I got this condition from another medication’s side effects when I was 19 and it’s been a very rare and uncommon disorder. The medications to help treat the gastric disorder also causes way worse complications like involuntary muscle movement etc. the only other known source to help “treat” the long term complication is by a gastric pacemaker which is surgical and needs consistent doctors care. Now that other people are being affected by it maybe they’ll actually care and look into how to actually help us and prevent it from happening to others. But always do your research before taking medications that you DO NOT necessarily need, it’s never worth the risk. Now I’m stuck struggling with these dang disorders 😭😭 stay healthy yall we could (sometimes) prevent these situations by promoting great health before having to seek assistance, because once you need the help you don’t have many options unfortunately.

I've finally just decided to stop trying to get my prescription, my body can't handle constantly being off it for weeks than having it for a few weeks and then not being able to get refilled again. I've been taking Ozempic for 10 weeks now. As I like to say, I'm not having any noticeable side effects, nor am I having any effects. My appetite seems unchanged. I was taking Metformin and it made me vomit in the morning if i didn't take it in a very rigid and specific way, but it did lower my glucose somewhat. Ozempic also doesn't seem to affect my glucose levels as it was supposed to. In other words, I'm up to 1 mg dose and am really ambivalent about increasing it further as it doesn't seem to do much for me. It's better than puking, but is that enough? I also suffer from chronic and intractable migraine headaches. Nothing I've tried for them, including injectable meds, does anything at all for me. I think some of the "wonder drugs" simply don't so as much as pharma companies say they do. Either that or they don't work for me because I'm over 80.

Also, Mounjaro is NOT fda approved for weight loss and is dosed higher by lots of online prescribers. Gastroparesis is common in diabetics as well. This should not be taken with patients with history of gerd, other gi complications, or anyone with a familial history of medullary thyroid cancer. It’s clearly listed as adverse reactions.

It’s literally listed in the side effects, in print and its entire mechanism of action is slowing gastric emptying. It’s listed in those exact words in my nursing drug book. Lack of movement also causes slowing down and bad diets can cause ducts from the liver/pancreas to be come blocked thus causing pancreatitis. Let’s face it type 2 diabetes is a preventable disease. You got there by eating badly and not exercising except a few outliers with diseases. (Such as pancreatic cancer). TONS of meds are prescribed off label. The only difference it makes is that insurance doesn’t cover it, it’s allowed to be given off label.
