@@LawVSI agree with this. They let the young women run the season to work out the kinks. Had the races been aired any problem would have been magnified and the criticism great. They could try a "winter series" like GT4/3 and LMP3/2 are doing (mainly in sunny countries, like Portugal and Spain) to scratch the itch, while F1 racing does not exist. I'm following that.. There's no F1 nor MotoGP to have my motorsport scratch.
@FoggyMcFogFace9 ай бұрын
@@alimantado373 Currently, women have barely any chances to do that. This is a way to increase that chance. This is just a feeder series. A good showing here or just getting experience in cars like that, gives a bit more of a chance. This is no alternative to F1. F1 is not a gendered sport. Women should be able to compete with the right talent, just like men. This is a way to find that talent. That talent will then probably move on to race in F3, maybe F2. To get a chance at F1 just like all the other young talented and not-so-talented drivers in there.

I think the main thing that must be focused on is getting girls interested in karting at similar ages as boys. Many of the drivers on the f1 grid started around 3-5 years old. It’s seems as though the earlier you start the more time you have to make mistakes and hone in your driving style. I know it’s a quite vague example but Latifi started karting around 13 and we know how his f1 career turned out, while people like Fernando and Max started around 3-4 years old. I think once we get a regular stream of girls into karting in and around that early age range we will see many more actually break through and excel in f3 and f2.

Hamilton started at 8 and look how he turned out.
@LawVS9 ай бұрын
Absolutely. That's another piece in the puzzle but this is a good start for those who are approaching their late teens. But yes, grass roots initiatives as well as educating young girls that racing isn't just for boys is helpful too.
@TheNotoriousB.E.N.9 ай бұрын
@@bartekkkoit’s not a strict age range, of course there will be exceptions and incredible natural talents like Hamilton. But I do believe the earlier the better. Bruno Senna another example. @TheNotoriousB.E.N.9 ай бұрын
@@babylon4953 Very true and I think that’s mainly down to what’s been embedded unconsciously in our general ideologies of what is seen as ‘masculine’ and ‘feminine’ over centuries. Racing and cars in general has traditionally been looked upon as a male preserve and one that doesn’t fit with traits that have been prescribed to women because when people think of f1 drivers they unconsciously think of the “alpha male, macho, risk taker” type, maybe like a Fernando Alonso who I’m sure you see many refer to as “Chadlonso”, etc. And with 0 women deemed good enough for f1 at this moment in time the big sponsors tend to stay away from them as there just hasn’t been a successful enough woman in junior formula to justify it. My inner Sociology student is coming out so I’m probably waffling at this point.

F1 Academy has potential but what id be interested in is maybe a Super formule-esque series, but just for women. A series where, the cars aren't top level but definitely top end cars, (Higher than F2, I.e Super formula). Let the Women learn in F1 academy, but give the, somewhere safe to end up, because I fear with how low down F1 Academy is, and the fact that F1 and F2 teams are "forced" to choose a driver, it feels as if F1 academy will be the final stop. So giving them a higher end series in which they can show their skills in greater machinery which will make them more attractive to other series teams, is something that will be needed. I just fear, like with the W series, there wont be anywhere to go afterwards

I watched the 2 two races in Jeddah last week. It looked like parking lot at a superstore on Saturday. No track limits - just drive where it's convenient. Brakes are optional - especially if there's a car in front of you. Turning the steering wheel, maybe. Moving under braking - almost every lap. Commentary was... uhhh... Apparently the checkered flag gets waved 'whenever' now - even if the 1st place driver passed by already. The pit wall doesn’t communicate with their driver - everyone just took their headsets off and walked away - at least they knew when the race ended. Of course, very late or no penalties levied on multiple infractions. Imo, these are all racing basics for the drivers. The commentators should know about what they are talking about so they can relay that to the viewers. The pit wall should know what to do - even Ferrari does way better. The race officials are with the FIA, they put together 18+ races a year for decades - ??? This was dumpster fire! One thing I did like was the broadcast director's choices of views during the race. They seemed to capture the video that was pertinent at the time instead of wandering off when something like Ricciardo's botched pit stop was happening - it's sad we had to find out about things like that the next day online. Even without the commentary, I could figure out what was happening. Anyway, these items can all be fixed. Hopefully they will get there marbles gathered better for next time - I do hope there's a next time!

The problem isn't a management one where females are concerned with F1 entry, the problem is in the physicality required to race the current cars competitively. Susie is well aware that F1 drivers are in peak physical condition, yet still find it challenging to deal with the constant forces placed on the body. "But Holtzy, Females can be fighter pilots", that's true, but it is not sustained G-forces, 3 days in a row, ending with 2 hours racing on the Sunday, sometimes back to back weeks. F2 seems to be the peak and they only just survive there, but never competitive at that level or beyond. So why have there been female F1 drivers in the past? Well, the introduction of Aerodynamics has increased the lateral load past what is safe or even healthy for a female. Prior to Aero dominating the cars, women had every opportunity to be successful in F1, but what Toto and Susie are doing is just giving false hope and almost physically impossible task/expectation to these girls. Jamie Chadwick herself stated that F2 was the most physicality they can take. F1 Academy only exists for the money and to quiet the people that call for females in F1. And that sucks, cause I'd love nothing more than to see a woman dominating the men in F1.

So I've watched an F1 Academy Race ... 1. It would've been very important to me to understand that this is an F4 Series, and not, as the Name might imply, anything remotely F1. 2. The Race was full of small and bigger Mistakes. Honestly it was all over the Place. Frustrating to watch, if you don't understand that it's a learner Series 3. Bustamante and Pin stud out for me. Pin of course because she kept the Lead and won, and Bustamante because she showed some real Racing Craft, that Person is a true Racer! 4. Pin missed the Checkered Flag and did an extra Lap, costing her the Win as she got a Penalty for that. Which was a shame, as: The Flag was blocked by a big Screen. The Flag was not fully unfolded when she went past. Her Team didn't congratulate her, indicating thate the Race is over. I put this one 50:50 on the Team and the Organizers. 5. Lia Block was Rear-ended and Spun and had her Race ruined, but when tried to turn around, went in the way of an oncoming car. The first Incident was not her Fault, but the second was, which also ended her Race. 6. Chambers (who spun Block), was all over the Place, crashing into other cars, leaving the Track, making Mistakes. Not being penalised for 3/4 of her Mistakes. A significant Part of the carnage on Track was caused by her. Takeaways: Knowing they are Learners, it's interesting to see how they are going to develop. Especially Drivers like Chambers. I want to see them grow out of being Rookies. They need better commentary. They need to communicate better where Drivers are coming from and how experienced they are. Lewis Hamilton was the only F1 Driver attending the Race for Support. If you let a Guest wave the checkered Flag, Let them practice a bit. Please televise more of the Races!

Why so positive about a series that's discriminating half of the demographic? The level of these lady's is about midfield F3 tops (top level Sophia Flörsch). Why handing out superlicence points for performances on that level, only top F3 drivers get points. Yuyu Noda and Sophia Flörsch are walking the correct trail. They test themsreves against the boys and see what happens. Motorsports were the only sports not discriminating on gender.

The only way this can work is if the champion gets a promotion to a regular F4 championship. I don’t think Jamie Chadwick winning all 3 Formula W series championships with barely racking out an Indy Lights seat when the series collapsed did a lot of good for women in single seater motorsports. We either decide there will be a female alternative series to the current male dominated ones, or push these ladies with normal expectations in the regular series against men/boys. The worst thing you can do is make this half arsed approach, where you have this special F4 series for females, and you aren’t focusing on building a solid female series these juniors can graduate to, or a clear road to where ever the men are and make that field more mixed.

while it would be great to have more woman drivers in the FIA ladder, I think the W series and F1 academy is counterintuitive to that purpose, they may give experience to those drivers but it also traps them in F4, look at Garcia, she spent a total of 5 years on the F4 step of the FIA ladder (1 Spanish F4, 3 W series and 1 F1 acdm), Far too much time spent on one step of the ladder to ever hope reaching the top, furthermore, having these drivers compete solely with themselves is not a prime environment for improvement and growth as drivers, I genuinely hope that Garcia and shadwick are freak occurrences cause I don't want to see Pin wasted in F4 for another 2 years, not after her performance in F4 SEA.

f1 Academy is a joke not because its a female only series but because they allowed the previous years champion to compete in the same series the following year after winning the title... If you are in F2 and you win the F2 title you CAN NOT participate in F2 in the following season... SOOOOO, this woman realized that if she were to move up to F3 she would have been put into the dirt and absolutely gaped... All for equality. However, that means being EQUAL rather than being advantaged. If the point is that ladies are to be competitive in the 'higher' formulae, then they need to be competitive against the men. That being the case, why do they need their own series? Would it be OK if we had a series just for Hungarians for instance? No. Of course not. F1 can't give places to F2 champions as it stands. Do you really think that this will lead to a female F1 star?
@LawVS9 ай бұрын
Considering this is one series amongst many equitable series it's not that big a deal. This is hopefully made to lead to equity in F3, FRECA or other F4 series.

@@LawVS Define 'equity'. Equity does not mean a future F3 series with 20 drivers with exactly 10 of each gender. That would be a sham quota system, there for the sake of ticking politically correct boxes. Equity should mean the 20 best drivers eligible for that series, and yes, this could well be 100% female if they earned it. The moment that ANY sport is no longer a pure meritocracy, it's no longer serving its purpose & should be shut down permanently.
@LawVS9 ай бұрын
@@fletch9702 Of course. Ultimately, the ideal goal of this is that women get noticed for their skill and are rewarded a seat for said skill and not just because they're a woman. Prema didn't have to give Garcia a seat in FRECA but they did because she was the best last year.
