The thing is Lando is just 1.5 years older than Oscar. I don’t think he’s going to stop improving anytime soon, he’s very much an echo of the Max Verstappen story; a young prodigy teenager who a team put all their faith in. I think he could seriously be a dominating force if he is in perfect harmony with future cars / upgrades and the strategies at McLaren take a step up too. Which is why I think we’ll see Oscar in red after Lewis is done…maybe I should make videoes sometime too 🤔
@Tristialawirtz6 ай бұрын
Also don’t get me wrong here I think highly of Oscar too, I just think they won’t stay in the same team for too long precisely because of that reason and ultimately McLaren his Landos team (as I see it at least) but I think we could see those to fighting for a title in the future…in different teams, because I think McLaren would back Lando for the fight if others are involved such as Max or Charles. And I personally think they’re both better (currently one of them) is than Charles’ potential

If I were a McLaren fan, I would not be getting my hopes up for a title fight just yet. The problem for me is that Lando hasn't yet proved that he would be able to handle the pressure. In fact, he's proven that he crumbles when the pressure turns on. We saw what happened to Leclerc. Sure Ferrari strategy didn't help but his spin in France and Imola was all on him. I hope he proves me wrong so we can get some excitement but I'm not holding my breath.

Lando is gonna get that first race win soon and then they’ll start falling like dominos. I truly believe he has the potential to be a world champion. My only worry is his struggle with confidence. It’s hard to imagine anyone dethroning Verstappen because his dedication to motorsports is unlike anyone else on the grid. Max has the obsession with the sport that makes him that much better than the rest. His focus is insane. To think any of us would hop right into a sim of our job right after we completed our day’s work would be ludicrous but that’s normal for Max 😂

In my opinion, Lando still needs to break his grand prix victory duck if he's to complete his evolution into Lando Prime. With the rumblings of Newey's imminent Red Bull departure in the rumour mill, that may be sooner rather than later but for now Lando needs to seriously knuckle down and get that trophy in the bag.
@RockSolitude6 ай бұрын
I think people are being unnecessarily harsh and hyperbolic when it comes to Oscar's tyre deg problems and race pace issues. It's like everyone's forgot he's still a rookie for all intents and purposes and instead expects that he should be equaling a driver who's now not only into year 5 at McLaren (5 years of experience and tailoring to McLaren), but a driver who entered into his prime form in 2023 and 2024. It's not Carlos Sainz he's being compared - you know when Carlos Sainz was still mid. It's Prime Lando, who showed that he had better one lap pace than Carlos but in his rookie season. Even then, Lando was still ways off in the races and race pace and that persisted for 2 years. Don't forget, Lando said himself that he didn't truly get on top of his tyre management until last year. If Oscar is this close to Prime Lando and Prime Sainz already, as a rookie driver, as long as continues to learn and improve and work on areas that need work on, he'll be right up there with them soon - year 3 or 4, which is roughly the same time frame that the other two took (though Sainz took a bit longer). We also can't discount the car or Pirelli's role in this, either. Since 2022, it's been the worst period for a rookie to come into F1 in terms of tyre performance and deg and the handling of the cars (more front limited). On top of this is the fact that the McLaren still is rather peculiar and requires a very particular driving style and soft touch, something which Lando has honed around the car for almost 5 years now. In contrast, Oscar has a much more aggressive driving style on the brakes and acceleration and is a significantly shorter corner driver, getting on the power much earlier than Lando out of a corner. This is partly why he's so fast, but also why he struggles with tyre wear, as reeling that back to look after the tyres while still being fast over a race distance is a fine art in and of itself. You can check the onboards yourself if you want to see proof of what I'm saying.
@henrywilliams41706 ай бұрын
i heard mark hughes say something interesting on the Race podcast recently about piastri's driving style, he always has quite reliable inside knowledge. He said piastri prefers a very strong front end, much more than norris, in fact he even said only two other drivers have had this preference, that being Schumacher or Verstappen who loved very pointy fast cars and can handle that extreme rear instability. It's interesting because McLaren aero balance has always been known to be the complete opposite of that i.e known to be very weak on the front end.
@JC-lu4se6 ай бұрын
Is it really Prime Lando? Are you suggesting he's at his peak at 23? He might go higher or he may plateau. This being F1, Oscar is going to get more and more criticism about his race pace if he doesn't start getting closer to Lando by year's end or by some point in 2025. It's F1 and everyone is either "underrated or overrated" depending on which way the wind is blowing. Oscar will cop it by social media "experts" and perhaps by some pundits as well if he can't get his head around the Pirellis. Personally, I think Lando's mentality will hold him back while Oscar will get through this flat spot and will improve as nothing seems to affect him.
@Redlingstein6 ай бұрын
Ppl were claiming he would walk over Lando as the next Max remember? That’s why ppl now are pointing at his SHORTCOMING…and that is still heavily tyre management. Ppl were hyping Piastri so much last season, laughing that Lando would be no match for him…… But Piastri isn’t that hype… he has his weaknesses that ppl didn’t want to see/acknowledge. Its not harsh, it’s reality.
@henrywilliams41706 ай бұрын
@@Redlingstein well people can start hyping him up again if or when he sorts of tyre management because he clearly doesn't lack raw pace, as he's only within a tenth in quali on average in just start of 2nd season and on pace with him at lower deg races.

I've always been on the red side of that fight, but seeing McLaren return to the forefront just fills my heart with joy and excitement. Especially if Ferrari can remember to not go down the road of the last couple of seasons and stay competitive with good decisions. Red Bull may be out of reach still, but damn it if I'm not excited for the battle just behind them! Landos sensational pole in the sprint race was not reinstanted because of mitigating circumstances. It was reinstated because the rule used did not apply at the Chinese Gp so they simply made an error. The team never protested because it was reversed very quickly. In fact Max had done exactly the same thing , Different steward who had read the race directors notes allowed Max time to stand and made them realise their mistake over Lando. Your disection of the brain of Lando acting as his father figure is fun to hear but complete boloney but made me laugh. You read far too much into landos natural character and I am sure he would be laughing as well. Oscar prior to the incident with Lance and Danni had been losing .7 pe rlap against Lando which is worrying. Peter Windsor said that in the sprint quali where he was 2 secs faster than Max Lando demonstrated his amazing feel and touch he has and this is also what he has to look after his tyres. Oscar drives differently so its going to be a long haul for Oscar to beat Lando over a season. Oscar will have his high points of course . However even in quali Lando leads 4:1 . Another fact was that lando never touched the kerbs in the Chinese race apparently. A lot of the serious pundits including Sky and the BBc are saying that Lando now has to be regarded as one of the elite drivers of F1. They are Max, Lewis, Alonso and Charles although I would not include Charles.
