I'm actually legally blind and something like this might actually help me to drive. I know in some states there's something called bioptic driving where one can use something like Beecher Glasses to drive. This could also be one of those alternatives. So, really this isn't all that bad, especially if you can zoom in on things. It would really help, especially if you can hook it up to the car.

Hello Andrew, I was a fireman for 21 years and riding in the front right seat (officer's seat) one afternoon heading back to the station I saw some idiot in an Escalade watching a porn on his larger front dash monitor.

there is an interesting situation with vision impaired people. some of them report, that using these goggles actually help, because the lenses can be custom made for the wearers eyes. imagine you are short sighted, the googles can correct that too. but it's more extreme, the person could do really badly in low or bright light. the goggles adjust brightness. or color blindness. the goggles could just write green next to the traffic light. and we are not touching the topic, that these goggles could be connected to the cars surveillance system.

You should consider rearview cameras (not backup cameras), that are popping up in new model cars. It streams video from an additional rear-facing camera to your rearview mirror.

I can imagine a similar device that would be useful for vehicle driving. You could display your speed in your vision so you do not have to look down and check. You can see any dashboard engine warnings, have enhanced vision modes at night, and even an AI that would identify and highly pedestrians. In fact, all this technology already exists. It just has not been assembled into a vehicle system in that way yet.

I would guess that there's also a small delay that would make it take longer to react than if you were using your actual eyes.

It’s an interesting idea but not helpful or safe in its present form. Add proper safeguards, clear view areas and speed adaptive zoom tech and it will be the future. F-22 jets already have similar tech. We also need a way to easily remove the goggles. Smaller form factor etc.

I could see something LIKE an Apple Vision Pro integrating with the existing cameras and other sensors of a car to provide better all round vision and awareness. But without that integration, and without the cameras on the car, I agree they're just too dangerous.

How many taxi, Uber, or Lyft drivers will be shut down without notice -- let alone due process -- when they get ambient alcohol detectors installed?
@bleebu54485 ай бұрын
My understanding was that the proposal was not a "breathalyzer" or sniffer, but looks at driving behavior like swerving, driving too slow, drooping eyes etc. It adds all those up and determines that you or either drunk, or on an L.A. Freeway. Also, heard the proposal was DOA, just like the speed limiters that use GPS to make sure you drive the speed limit.
@arinerm13315 ай бұрын
@@bleebu5448 That's a different thing. Ambient alcohol detectors are just what the name says. They detect alcohol in the air, but they don't detect who breathed it.
