The ending of the movie is a very dark one when you think about it. If the Devil doesn't get his way he has the power to turn back the clock and keeps on doing it until he does which confirms when he says all of the world belongs to him and shows it by winding back the clock and ultimately winning in the end. It's a depressing ending when you think about it. Not only the ending is dark and tragic, but Kevin is to be Milton's plaything forever, and will never let him go. And if you take the supernatural out of this movie. This movie rings more true now than it ever did before given the amount of corruption that goes on in the halls of law firms, businesses, and governments today.

I know of one who busted his butt to get through law school but was so disillusioned by private practice that he quit after 6 years. He became a chef as cooking was his chief hobby. I have heard it's usually not arguing for them to be not guilty, but rather how much time to do. or, arguing law over morality. however, there are a good ammount who (not trying to draw a link to these two things, but idk when else this thought process was used on a large enough scale that all may understand) like 1940's German soldiers, they believe in a way they are removed from the issue. soldiers were following orders, not planning these things. the lawyer is paid by the client to defend them, and the lawyer did not commit the crime, so what do they care?

Kevin's wife is also a negative character in a subtle way. She don't have any problem in her husband's wrongdoings (like, verbally assaulting an underaged rape victim) and she enjoy the luxury through it. And the climax scene where she insist her husband to go for the interview and finally falling in the trap of satan is symbolic to the Biblical story of temptation of Eve in Aden.

I can't remember the full movie... but did she knew about his wrongdoings? It looked like the case with the child rapist was his first case where he defended a bad person and won. But it looked like only Kevin knew that he was guilty. Given that the Jury proclaimed innocence, its only fair to assume that his wife also believed he defended a innocent man. So all she did, was supporting him in his career, which is not a sin.

It's ironic that in the Bible the name/word Satan literally means "accuser" (prosecutor). And Jesus taught about forgiveness, not punishment. Jesus is a defender, not the accuser. The moral of the story is directly opposite to Christianity, despite the film pretending to tell a pro-Christian story.

His wife is also depicted as a sinner same like her husband in the film. There's a scene in the film where she's enjoying with her husband after he did injustice to the rape victim. And that's why she suffered later in the movie. And at the end itself it is clear she'll get tortured again and again in the never ending loop by satan.
