This is the one movie that I haven't seen but need to. I grew up in Alabama during the 60s and 70s. I never understood the hatred or racism of those times. As a white man, and the son of white parents,my parents never taught racism or bigotry. I just didn't get it. I understood the struggles and the racism that still exists today including the Birmingham that I grew up in. Things that I saw on the news horrified me. 😢😮. Will it ever end?

America has always been racist, that will never changes. Hell the human race has always been judgmental of others looking different than him. Back then its open racism, nowadays its hidden and institutional. People are two-faced, you ask a white man what he thinks and he will answer one way in front of the public and thinks differently in the comfort of the home passed down by his father and grandfather. I've seen white people tried so hard to seem progressive, it it hilarious.

In the 1st part of this video, it's clearly evident that this is 1st in the south and it was a very sad part of American history but this video also concerns black people working in the WHITE House, and I remember years ago when President Obama was in the WHITE House, when he got hungry he would go to the kitchen and make something to eat, and the WHITE House Chef got very mad at him,and as the story unfolds President Obama wanted very simple things like a hotdog, or a chilidog, bacon Cheeseburger, like most President s they like very simple things like when they were young and because I have worked for two four star Generals, they are the same way, easy to make, but packed with flavors and a wide variety of different types of foods, which they greatly appreciated, as when they went home, they requested that their cook's make the exact same thing, you would be surprised what these high Profile people want, elegance with a Flair, and very simple simplicity. That's how my ma,taught me, and my brother's and sisters. But now after CULINARY SCHOOL, with extensive experience in the CULINARY ARTS, you can't find that anymore, among leading Chef's, it's very Rare.

Nelson Mandela after he was freed and became the president of South Africa. His demand was for simple foods that were traditional Xhosa that he grew up eating. Simple food like sour milk with maize meal, hardy and fluffy grits like, maize meal called um-phokoqo. That was his favorite meal. I love it to though I dread cooking the maize meal, it's complicated to mix to perfection in order to have the best results. I best cook it with instinct rather than measurements which is in the blood. Some foods are best cooked from the heart not the head. These great men never wasted, appreciated simplicity and never forgot where they came from.

I think that if it was a book it must have been written by 2 or more generations. The clues are as follows: (1) In first part , it shows black people working on cotton farm as harvesters as " slaves" . That means it was before the American Civil War . (2) Many of the former slaves in south moved away from cotton farms to work in cities or at least up North ! They would take a permit for New Lands or Native Americans to farm & harvest them . Then they moved westwards . Thus , original diary / source diary was from 2 or more people . Perhaps from same family ?! . Afterall working as Butler in White House was far more comfortable & secure job than anywhere else .
