If anyone with mental problems refuses medication that is needed to protect others they need to be placed in an institution. I would do that to my own family. No one else should be a victim of another no matter the case. True mental illness is a burden to the person dealing with it and should be provided with every help and kindness possible.

You can't just place people In institutions anymore. The ACLU/Disability Rights lawyers fights for their freedom, even when they are too incompacitated to understand their need for treatment. Hence all the homeless. He's 10x more likely to be homeless or in jail than in a hospital.

It takes a coward to hit a woman...especially if that woman gave you life. In my state, domestic violence is taken seriously and it’s automatic arrest. Even in this case something needs to be done with him. He’s got a lot of weight on him and she clearly is a pretty frail looking (no offense) and he could severely hurt her. As a former FF/EMT and someone who has worked with adults with disabilities like him, it’s dangerous when they have violent and physical outbursts like this. So authorities should get more involved than a 3 day hold on him. The mother, as with any situation like this, is more than likely afraid of him and what he would if she followed through with charging him. I’ve also seen that first hand. Praying for the mother and praying the authorities do something more than a mandatory 72 hour hold.

I'm caring for my 97 yr old mother and, believe me, there are difficult times when burn out comes into play. Fortunately, I have yet to hit her and try to vent my frustrations by removing myself from the trigger point. Nursing homes are the worse and should be avoided at all cost.

Unfortunately it continues because a lot of children who abuse their parents, the parents are afraid to say anything to anyone because they rely on their kids to help them. It's better for him to push but I alway check to see where he is. I usually wear something very very colourful/ colorful so he can see him on a crowd. I have never ever hit him. I shout as we both have some hearing loss.
