It's a brilliant airport for plane spotting. The variety of aircraft is amazing especially the heavies A380, A340, A350, 747, 777 and the Dream liner ❤️✈️
@kckong74332 жыл бұрын
Some of the shortcomings in LAX come from the thoughts of its early planners in the 60s. They thought passengers will not want to spend time in the terminals, they want to park their cars, walk to the terminal, board the plane and go. International air travel was not a big thing and they did not envision being a major transfer hub. That explains the horseshoe setup with parking in the middle, small terminal buildings with little space for concessions or seating. The good thing about LAX is the cooperating weather year round, 4 parallel runways with wind from the same direction 95% of the time. Once you make it to the terminal, there is less chance you have to wait hours for a delayed flight.
@mrxman581 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. I believe LAX originally had the shortest distance from the curbside to the boarding gate. That was when people could sit with you until you got on your plane and you didn't have the type of security you have to go through now. LAX was originally praised for it's design to quickly get on and off a plane and be on your way.

Last year when I was on a layover at LAX we traveled in the domestic terminal and then we realized that we had to make it to the international terminal in order to make it to South Korea, we were completely lost until we asked an airport staffer. She asked us to go through underground tunnel that is a mile long. It was exhausting. The most absurd part is that we had to go to some sort of basement that had construction going on and go through this elevator with multiple floors. We essentially had Gamble and choose which floor is the correct one. Thank goodness it’s the right one. We then have to travel through more tunnels and overpasses with multiple pathways we had to choose. Finally we are at are at the international terminal to spend and hour finding our gate. Thank god the LAX staff were helpful because if not, we would have been stranded in Los Angeles.

As someone who lives in Orange County and flies out of lax, I couldn’t agree with you more. The horseshoe is unforgiving if you miss the turn for your garage (if you can even get a spot), forcing you to traverse the whole horseshoe again. All the lines for coffee and food is always long so I end up getting a pre-made sandwich at a Hudson shop. The only reason I’d pick lax over John Wayne airport or Ontario international is because lax has the most flight options (non stop flights) and are usually cheaper.

Lol. ❤ it! VERY appropriate for LAX. JFK -- Jesus F**kin Khrist! Christ with a K. 😂😂😂 LGA -- Lord God AWFUL, EWR -- EWWWW, Rotted! 😂 I live out in the Bay Area now, and SFO & OAK are actually really VERY NICE airports compared to the SoCal airports (ESPECIALLY LAX; Burbank, Ontario & San Diego are all ok), and are ABSOLUTE HEAVEN when I compare them to the NYC/NJ area airports. Boston Logan is sometimes VERY overcrowded & congested. Bradley International in Hartford, CT is small but a decent & clean airport. Miami International (MIA: "Missing in Ambience") is UTTERLY DISGUSTING! The West Palm Beach & Ft. Lauderdale, Tampa & Orlando airports are all MUCH nicer. I've never flown in and out of San Jose, so I can't speak to Minetta International. People complain about Chicago O'Hare (ORD) but I didn't find it that bad. Chicago Midway (MDW) is pretty ok too.

If you're arriving there's no way to the departues post-security area which is the nice part - you have to exit to the street. Go to In-N-Out and watch the planes land.

Chris, few tips: 1. The G line Aviation shuttle is probably the best shuttle at LAX, its supposed to run every 7 minutes, 24/7. It's usually around ever 10=12 minutes; because it is a LAX shuttle it gets to use the priority bus lane in arrivals which has almost 0 traffic, never takes more than 8-9 minutes to go from T1-T7 in that lane. 2. T7 (United) and at a stretch T6 (Alaska) is pretty fast to get to, just take the shortcut right after T1 either upstairs or downstairs. 3. Depending on the time of day, it is much faster to go to arrivals in the morning (downstairs) and departures during the evening (upstairs) regardless of if you're actually arriving or departing. Each terminal has 3 or 4 escalators/elevators to switch between arrivals and departures.

I very much disagree. You don't have to do the whole horseshoe. Stay in the left lane and cut across to your terminal. This is a very busy airport and not as congested as he says. Usually, everyone is polite when driving, dropping or picking up their passanger. No one is honking their hornes, speeding or being disrespectful. I go to the airport often and I find it to be quite the opposite of his experience.

TBH, One of the biggest annoyances at LAX is trying to connect International to International. In most world airports, you can stay airside but not at US Airports. You have to go through US Immigration and customs even if you are leaving LAX on another International flight within a few hours. Foreign visitors also need an ESTA or Visa for the USA even if we have no intention of staying in the US and are just connecting International to International. It is crazy!
@kckong74332 жыл бұрын
I believe that is a federal policy on how these international transfers are done. Doesn't matter which airport you landed.

It's all US airports that do this for all international arrivals that are connecting either domestically or international. LAX is my home airport but experienced this in Seattle, JFK, Boston, Philly and Dallas. It is very annoying. The good thing is that most of the negative issues regarding LAX will be fixed in a couple of years. All the terminals are getting renovated and/or expanded All the terminals will finally be connected behind security. The People Mover will make accessing the airport more convenient LAX will add three new terminals/concourses: Concourse 0, terminal 9, and an addition to the relatively new Mid Field West terminal. I definitely disagree with a lot of what is said here. Yes, the horseshoe sucks but it shouldn’t take you an hour to get to T7/8. If you read the signs you don’t have to travel all the way around the horseshoe to get to Terminals 5-7/8. There’s a shortcut after T1 that crosses over to T7/8 and another one past T2 that crosses over to T5 and T6. The $50/day parking rate is for the short term garages located in the terminal area. Like most major airports, the short term garages are not meant for overnight parking. Other major airports like EWR and ORD charge the same. Anyone can easily and quickly walk to LAX-IT from terminals 1, 2, and 7/8. Changing planes from International to Domestic at any US airport is difficult because you’ll always have to re-enter security after you clear customs and immigrations. And the Tom Bradley Int’l Terminal has a walkable airside connection to T4 through T8. It’s also connected airside to T1-T3 by an airside bus for now. Name me one airport that has cheap food. Every airport is ridiculous when it comes to food. Luggage carts/Smarte carts are never free at US airports. I’ve only seen them free outside of the US.

If you use the skycap wheelchair service, and you’re going to the international terminal. You’re subject to a second security screening. Been there, done that. You don’t have the option of going through the long tunnel if you use the skycap wheelchair service.

I haven't been to Los Angeles since 2016 and just recently took a trip to LA in May and realized the rental car shuttles now drop you off downstairs at Arrivals instead of upstairs at Departures so you'll need to catch an elevator or escalator upstairs to check in for your flight. I guess that's one way of eliminating some of the traffic upstairs at Departures.

To get out of horseshoe, you have to be in a rare crazy traffic situation for an hour delay. Usually it will be 15-20 mins to drive around the entire horseshoe , make sure you keep left and do not take the parking entrances (which again are on the left lane). For departure flights, pls add an hour to what it usually be for other airports. Traffic is bad at the horseshoe section just in front of TBIT, and i have been dropped in front of domestic terminals. From there you have to walk to TBIT. Also, the security lines can go really long in no time. so pls make sure you have ample time for such unforeseen events.

You can park at metro green line for only $3 a day. But you can only pay up too 3 days. And yes take a shuttle from green line station to LAX. You can also use the same shuttle for remote car Depot.

That is no longer true. Terminal 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and TBT have been connected on secured side for sometime. Terminal 1, 2, 3 are also connected in the secured side now. When the connection from Terminal 3 to TBT open in about a year, all the terminals in LAX will have post security connections.

i scanned through the comments and didnt see it, and i apologize if its been brought up, but all the shuttles run by the airport (connection, lax-it, economy lot, metro rail..etc) have a dedicated lane on the arrivals level, so they do not get stuck in traffic

Unfortunately for me, I use LAX for both leisure and occasionally business trips. LAX’s horseshoe, LAX IT (rideshare area), and lack of direct public transportation are reasons to avoid the airport. Just about the only saving grace are the proximity of the airport hotels though parking there is ridiculously expensive. I have flown into DFW many times and always impressed with the sky link with quick access to the terminals. That is real progress. LAX can never have that unless they tear down the whole airport and start from scratch.

Hyatt House/Hyatt Place was amazing! We stayed there this week. The room was super clean. The beds were comfortable. And best of all a full breakfast free of charge in the morning! I paid 283 for a suite with a kitchen, dining area, living room with a couch that turns into a bed and a bedroom with two queen beds. I wish you could share pictures because this hotel was fabulous. I’ve flowed out of and into LAX all my life, I’ve never been stuck, never taken an hour around the loop, never taken 2 hours to go through the facets as you say. People just don’t do their basic homework. LAX is simple to navigate, it’s a loop…Terminals 1, 2, 3 Bradley (International), 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. I’ve seen people come out of Bradley and go wait for a shuttle to go to T3, when T3 is right there next door, a 5 minute walk 😂, so again, most people complicate their lives by not doing their basic homework, then they blame the airport.

One big reason- you can’t get from one terminal to another without exiting the building . And of course the traffic. Central parking is for drop off and pick up. If you want to stay near LAX stay at Marina Del Rey. Ten minute drive . More restaurants. Supermarkets. Safer. And close to Venice Beach. Don’t stay in Inglewood.

It's nearly impossible to grab the rental car shuttle from terminal 7. By the time they reach the end they are full or can barely fit another 3-4 people on the bus. There is no organized line either so depending on where the shuttle driver stops, you could be at the end of the line or the start.
