It's cool your doing a guitar lesson on less known guitar players i hope you do more of those. Also is that a new guitar?
@MarkZabel3 жыл бұрын
Rik was pretty well-known in the 1980s. No, this is a guitar I have had for maybe 9 months. I did a review on it and I've used it in a few videos. I like it! Harley Benton Fusion-T HH Review: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKPTqmakiKaohaM Stone Cold: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZfHiGZ3id2gh5o

Great lesson Mark! The problem with Triumph as compared to Rush (both trios) is that Rush could translate their studio sound to a live show. I heard Triumph live back in the day and they just couldn't duplicate all the extra guitar, keyboard and string sounds live. Still a great studio band though!
@MarkZabel3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! That's a great point. Although personally, I much prefer a group that makes each live show unique. From that perspective Rush was probably my biggest disappointment live. Definitely an interesting point though. I think many people prefer to hear what's on a record, contrary to me.
@MarkZabel3 жыл бұрын
@Dave Smith Yep. I loved Triumph live. But liking a concert that's unique and a bit different from the record might put us in the minority! :)

Man what I’d have given to have seen Triumph live back then!! Rik was always one of my favorite guitar players, the man is insanely talented!
@TonyVirili2 жыл бұрын
@@epiphone278, right there with you. Rik has always been my favorite due to his almost ridiculous versatility that spans so many different styles and genres. I never got the opportunity to them live, but people I know who did couldn't say enough about them. I believe they started adding another guitarist for live shows, but even just the 3 of them were amazing. And @Mark Zabel, you are not alone, I much prefer the live versions over their studio albums which tend to sound over-produced and compressed (U2 is another in that same category). "Stages" is one of the best live albums.

Thanks for this lesson man. Dad's favorite band and I love this song too and a lot of Triumph's other songs. You should totally do Hold On or Magic Power as well. Cheers mate

Dear Mark, nice to meet you and thank you very much! You explained it very well! Rik is my biggest guitar influence. I even wanted to pick up my own Fender Stratocaster Cherry Red to resonate him! I'm a girl, but I really love guitar sounding... My lessons will begin soon, because I finally found a real teacher who lives GUITAR... and I'm a new subscriber to express my gratitude for your great job! Love and peace from Russia! P. S. Could you do your guitar lesson based on "Never Say Never" for me, please? I really like this powerful anthem performed by TRIUMPH! I'm grateful in advance!

Sounds to me like a cross between Brian May and Gary Moore, kinda... Thanks!
@MarkZabel3 жыл бұрын
Never really thought about it, but that kind of makes sense. Brian May often played major/minor scale runs (although he claimed not to know them) and Gary certainly has the chops. Rik was classically trained, so I'm sure that's where he got the more modal approach that he used with rock licks thrown in. I don't think he has quite the tone and phrasing of those two, but it's an interesting comparison for sure!
