Do you think Songbird deserves to be freed? Can't wait to hear all your thoughts! Edit: I do also want to say that while I prefer the gameplay and ambience of King of Cups, I prefer Killing Moon as a story outcome!
@marty21295 ай бұрын
There is an interesting thing, though. The King of Cups is So-Mi's tarot, which would imply that ending would be the "best one" for her. And symbolically, her death is the only way through which she is free. The one when you send her to the Moon is actually tied to the tarot symbol for Alex. Though I never simped for So-Mi. I found her to be way too manipulative and I am kinda sad people absolutely dunk on Reed and Alex while absolutely ignoring that So-Mi just plays her victim card, only uses you for her own means, has no regard for collateral damage and is not taking responsibility for her own actions (not to mention her being damn proud about her work, too much for someone that claims to hate it). Also, I strongly disagree in one other point... So-Mi had a choice. A choice to listen to her friends and to her then-boyfriend instead of digging into militech datafort. But her arrogance remained to the end of her days... Did she earn freedom in death? IMHO yes, but nothing more. And besides, Killing Moon is rather shitty for NC as a whole, so Somewhat Damaged it is.

As a story outcome I actually like King of Cups -- My V at least tried to do his best for EVERYONE involved ... and how appropriate for the setting is that nobody got what they wanted Wrong people -- wrong city ... then again each person's unique life experiences will form how they react to content like in King of Cups. With my life experiences it resonated with me more powerfully than the other endings. Obviously YMMV.

When rescuing Meyers I read all the shards and they knew V was Former Arasaka Counter intel, so many hidden gems and motives lay there between the lines. Something everyone seems to forget is what Reed tells you if you meet him after Phantom Liberty, one last time. If you ask if they'll bury So Mi, he tells you she's already got a grave in New York, that he, her, and Alex visited it. It was part of her cover. He then says she was taken to the Groom Lake facility, that her body will never be buried. The implication is that Myers has ordered So Mi's chrome removed and used to continue the program

So Mi is honestly quite a tragic figure. There's no "good" ending for her. Siding with her just means that Mr Blue Eyes will use her as it's implied that he has connections to the moon colonies. If you betray her she'll be used by Myers for as long as possible with no regard to her as a person. If you kill her she has all of her chrome taken from her body and is implanted into some other unfortunate soul who will end up sharing the same fate repeating the cycle of abuse.

You're weak in that system, but that doesn't want too fight. You're still standing against those monstruosities because you want too live. I only played C77 for the first time 2 months ago so all my feelings are pretty fresh. On my first playthrough I was a streetkid V who was all "fight the power, help the little guy". During PL campaign I trusted neither So Mi nor Reed but I had absolutely no respect for Reed who got screwed over by someone and still chose to return to serve them and So Mi seemed like the underdog so I decided to help her. Maybe I self-inserted pretty hard, but when So Mi revealed that cure will only work for one of us I felt the betrayal strongly. So strongly, in fact, that siding with Reed in the 2nd playthrough as a Corpo "no ideals or feelings, only benefits" V I was personally fucking pissed at So Mi's audacity to call my actions a "betrayal" and that she was a fool to "trust" me. Bitch, you never trusted me, if you did you would've told me the truth at the meeting before the Firestarter when I still had the option of backing out. Not even the reveal of her past managed to cool my anger at her, I felt zero sympathy for her. She had it hard? Join the club, 90% of NC has shit lives. She's dying? V is also dying and she wasted their time and dragged them into a confrontation between NUSA and Hansen by using false cure as a bait. Now I'm on my third playthrough as Nomad V and I'll help her simply because I dislike Cynosure sequence with Cerberus and my build has no use for Blackwall Gate and Erebus, but based simply on story I'd side with Reed in every playthrough.

You can tell he has principles and genuinely thinks he’s doing the right thing. And he feels nothing but guilt for So Mi’s condition. Elba was phenomenal. Plus I liked the horror aspect of it. It is important to remember the significance of the fact that in the ending of "Killing Moon" Songbird told V the truth. All of Songbird's previous efforts - the betrayal of Myers, Hansen, Reed, V - were in vain at this point. She basically put her fate in V's hands, and did so against her own obvious interest. Songbird, as she herself admitted, has committed many mean things in her life (first out of her own vanity, then as an executor of Myers' orders). But she wanted to end it. In the end, we become her judge and must decide whether she deserves a second chance or eternal damnation. In my opinion, sending Songbird to the Moon is the most canonical ending - V making the decision still believes that she has a chance of recovery, so betraying Songbird is not necessary for survival (I assume that the DLC is played before the completion of the game's main storyline). And Songbird deserves a second chance. Despite everything

In my first playthrough I did help Reed, because I always knew there was something extremely off about So Mi and her attempts of manipulation and invoking empathy. I was very much sceptical when she tried talking to V right before the mission where you get your hands on the neural matrix. No person would go to such lengths to try and convince someone to trust them, especially a stranger like V - regardless of how similar their situations are. Not to mention the countless red flags we as V discovered through the stories and interactions So Mi had with her ex colleagues. I have seen some comments mentioning they dislike Reed. I personally like Reed because even though he is flawed and extremely loyal to the NUSA, he is not going to fill you up with shit like So Mi. He did what he thought was right for So Mi in order to make up for the fact that he feels extremely guilty for how things turned out not just with So Mi but with Alex as well. In the end, after promising he would help V, he keeps his word and helps V. Moreover, he is disappointed when V does not take his offer to help to instead take on Arasaka - most likely due to him also feeling guilty he could not help V himself, just like he could not help So Mis dire situation when handing her over to the NUSA. There is more about Reed and my comment would not do his character justice, so I just leave it at that. I was happy to find out in other playthroughs that So Mi did lie to V and was manipulating her all along which gave me that whole 'avoiding a bullet' feeling. I just can't see myself helping and even killing/frying a dozen NUSA agents for someone who blatantly manipulates, twist feelings for their own benefit. V as selfless as she is would not be as naive to not see through So Mi and the artifical bond she attempted to build. That is my headcannon at least and why I would not choose to side with So Mi. I will however choose mercy and kill her in the end in my second playthrough.

After playing through all the scenarios in Phantom Liberty the most karmically appropriate ending is to not engage. Stay out of it. Let Myers die at the beginning and leave Seong Mi to her fate. Myers is a piece of garbage and Seong Mi manipulates V from beginning to end. Sure she's a sympathetic and likeable character, but that doesn't change the fact that she lies to V and uses him as a disposable tool from start to finish regardless of who you side with. Honestly if given the choice I would have 100% sided with Kurt Hansen and I think it was a completely missed opportunity by CDPR to not make that a possible scenario. Hansen is literally no worse than anyone else in Phantom Liberty and I like him more than any of the other characters.

I'm going to defend the "Hand her over at the launchpad" ending: V lives, Reed lives, Alex lives, Songbird lives without becoming some AI-hybrid mess. I just didn't do it, because at that point the NUSA just did a terrorist attack on an airport, so fuck 'em. Otherwise, seems a good ending.

I have a problem with how that server bot was portrayed being indestructible. V faced a Chimera mech thing that's built for battle while that maintenance bot thing is for, well, maintenance. How come my V destroyed the Chimera by just punching it? Both were AI controlled. I think the server bot should've been handled differently like if V destroys it, the place blows up or something so V had to avoid it instead of being like a roomba turned into a terminator.
@nebeskisrb77655 ай бұрын
PL has a lot of such railroad moments. Like, before you fight chimera you have to run away from it and devs deliberately disable your ability to sprint, jump or dash because they knew it will trivialize their escape sequence. Or having a standof with Reed while holding So Mi, previously you tanked barrage from a military heli but now you can't tank a single pistol shot.

I hated doing it, but it felt like the right call.

Songbird is a relatable character for me, and while yes she does betray and lie to us, thats all she has experinced and who are we to judge her? She knew that no one would help her escape from the NUSA, and that no one would help her cure herself, so she took the only route she knew. Both endings where you side with Reed are... tough for me to do as her reaction to this is, understandable yet heartbreaking. If you learned that the one person who you thought would save you ends up betraying you and taking you back to a life of suffering wouldn't you do the same? While her methods where controversial, she had no other choice as she was..... alone with no one she could truly count on.

The King of Cups ending is So-Mi's one. It is her tarot. Her best ending. Which has huge implications for her chances on the Moon if you send her there, if the mind-control fanboy and AI meat-puppet Mr. Blue Eyes wasn't enough evidence already.
@vermas4654Ай бұрын
The reason I turn her over to Reed after siding with her initially is plain and simply because up until that point V had the impression that he would get saved with Songbird. Its only then that she revealed that she lied to V the entire time and that she intended to only save herself. In that moment i feel like V would be vengeful enough to hand her over as a revenge for that betrayal. Not really a moral decision but something of a personal character decision.

~ 12:00 - Songbird lies to V. V does not lie to a single person he involves. They get involved willingly. All of them. That's a MASSIVE difference. They knew what the odds were, and they still wanted to help V, because he helped them. V also doesn't ask for their help under what essentially comes down to as 'duress', as their life is not in danger, his is, and he does not screw them over in the end just so he could live and they could die. Not only that, she has a stupid, childish tantrum saying *you* betrayed *her*... Even though she has, quite literally, lied and led you on from the start. Let's not equivocate things that are not equal.

I can equivocate the two if I'd like. You can not equivocate the two if you'd like. My belief is that her lying isn't nearly as bad as all the atrocities both of them have committed. V is hellbent on survival and that drags people into their mess and results in a lot of death in exchange for one life. Her being a compulsive liar doesn't suddenly make me believe that a contract mercenary consistently doing illegal gigs and leaving trails of bodies is a better person. If V at any point had to lie to a stranger to survive, they would've done it without a second thought. Actually Phantom Liberty itself proves that. In Firestorm V can literally go against their word to both Song or Reed and it can even get Alex killed.

For majority of the game if not all of it, your choices in who gets the proverbial or rather literal bullet are rather unambiguous. You're killing either corpo scum or street scum. And as for legality... An insanely corrupt govt tells you something is illegal, and you immediately consider that a moral mandate? Bit of a boot-licker stance there, not very cyber-punk of you. Now, consider the following. Songbird is part of the govt., and by her own admission has gotten innocents killed. Depending on how you played so far, your V could or couldn't relate to that. I've seen all endings in 1.6, and all endings in 2.1. I agree with the decision that it is best to kill So-Mi because I don't want NUSA to have this kind of weapon. Even more, if for this power they don't mind So-Mi being robbed of her memories and identity - why shouldn't I help her pass away? Mr. Blue Eyes and AI are no better, I don't believe she is happy alive, because she is not free and still used as a tool. Helping her end her life as a friend, and helping Reed quit serving Myers, erasing the possibility of using So-Mi is the best scenario for me. Later in the story: I don't want to help Alt gain more power, but Arasaka deserves to be destroyed. Sometimes I pick "Don't Fear The Reaper" and give my body to Johnny because he can live a long and meaningful happy life and none of my friends dies. And sometimes I prefer the Star ending (as a male V) because even if Saul and other Aldecaldos die - they agree to risk their lives for a family, something they value. In this case, Johnny (as my friend) respects and supports my choice to continue fighting for life, stay with a loved person, Aldecaldos, and at least have 6 months of a life dedicated to those true values, which is uncommon in such a dystopian universe. Thanks for your video btw. I love Cyberpunk 2077 because of discussions like this

I personally love the game and love playing through the Cups Ending. for me personally I like to play as a nomad and embrace the chaos of freedom but one thing that would go against everything that makes a nomad a nomad to me is robbing another person of their freedom which is basically what you're contemplating by choosing to side with Reed vs Siding with So Mi. at first I side with Reed thinking for a moment that he would actually help get So Mi out of dodge but after hearing Reed immediately call for Myers to help painted more of a clear picture that Reed was more of a lap dog for Myers in spite of the betrayal she gave him. Playing through Cyberpunk the setting is a great set up Noir with it's moral conundrums. V is a criminal you can't ignore that fact everything that they do is up to the player and and plenty of the gigs are morally ambiguous if not all of them. V choosing to be a merc as a profession also is clearly saying that I'm choosing to be morally ambiguous as well maybe even a moral, It's their choice so it seems petty for people to get salty over So Mi planning on lying to you about the cure especially when she couldn't even go through with the lie. I see her as a person of circumstance in a very cruel world where trying to move through it under strong morals will most likely get you killed or used on a constant basis if you don't fend for yourself in this setting you're not going to get far in life. You see it everywhere in the game if you pay attention to the side stories that the shards, gigs and emails provide. Double crossing, Betrayal, Lies, and false promises ending with more people in turmoil, dead, or abondoned with no way of being heard again. Cyberpunk is intended to be a dark world and you usually have to be just as dark to survive it.

Even though Song already suffers from Blackwalldmg when the Plane gets hit might it not be the best outcome for her when we let Myers die? If no one finds out about her involvement in the plan she gets to hide alongside Hansen and can try fixing the Dmg. Reed would find out about Myers passing eventually but he never gets activated as an agent. Assuming nobody looks for her (she is a very important asset in the eyes of the Nusa) or she stages death.. well V might know of her surviving the crash itself but well who knows how she would go about staging her death.. would Myers dying Reed not getting called to action give her the best shot at getting away??

I dunno, I just can't bring myself to play endings like this one. I always feel slightly ill afterwards. Call me an optimist, but I prefer happy endings, even if they aren't for my character. So the only real ending I could bring myself to do, when it came to the PL content, was the one where I send Somi to the moon to hopefully get herself fixed. Especially considering all of the buildup with Reed beforehand, where he said, repeatedly, that he would do anything, pay any price to get Somi free of this mess he got her in.
@zeropolicy74565 ай бұрын
The only thing that was proper for SoMi was death. She disregarded and abandoned loyal friends and even got some of them killed even though they all begged her to stop doing what she was doing. Then she whines about suffering the consequences of her actions, blamed everyone around her, and then manipulated events that caused untold death and destruction. Many, many, MANY people died during Barghest's hunt for Myers. The pilots died. Reed and Alex got pulled out of retirement. V got pulled off of their legitimate leads in their struggle for survival over a lie. The Casino heist potentially ended many more lives. The showdown at the dome yet again ended even more lives. Your hunt for the VDB netrunner likely ended with a hefty death toll as well. All for a lie. A lie told so that one woman could continue to play victim and refuse to own her own shortcomings. At least V knows what they are. They don't complain about what's happening to them being unfair. They get a little depressed at first, and then suck it up, and get to work. Never once making excuses for the terrible shit they do besides "it needs to be done". They never pretend to be a good person. And even at the end, on the rooftop alone with Silverhand, in the best endings, V even fully acknowledges how much pain and turmoil they've caused, and can even decide to stop bringing others into their own BS and take sole responsibility for their own screw up in the Solo raid on Arasaka. SoMi is a reflection of what V would be without the skills, drive, and maturity needed to do what needs to be done. Someone that lies, cheats, and backstabs so that they can run from their problems. She needed to die. Not only is she generally way too dangerous to be left alive, either free or in NUSA custody, she also just deserves it in general anyways. And let me be clear: V absolutely deserves to die as well. If we look at their actions from an ethically neutral stance, they absolutely deserve the ultimate punishment for what they've done too. The only real, objective difference between SoMi and V besides one being the PC, is that V knows what they are and what they're doing. SoMi has deluded herself into thinking that she's owed the lives of hundreds of people so she can be free of the consequences of her actions. I genuinely get the impression that she truly believes that not only what she does is completely justified, that she's nothing but an innocent victim, and that when she walks away from all of this, the world will be a better place.
@gabrielsaffa53184 ай бұрын
In my opinion, Phantom Liberty's storyline is in fact So Mi's story, no matter what path V chooses. With this perspective in mind, the best outcomes for So Mi are to either send her to the Moon - she lives (without making any assumptions about what might awaits her there for now), or doing her a favor of killing her in Somewhat Damaged - at this point of the story, death is the only way to freedom for her. But we have to keep in mind that V's betrayal in Firestarter was the final push she unleashed those rouge AIs, the fatal blow that really broke her trust in us - and essentially every human being... She had no reason anymore to fight for herself. What is going on afterwards is, in fact, her emotional breakdown and disappointment in V, and it just shows how important the feeling that she could trust somebody - the feeling that she completely lost when working for NUSA - was for her. Even despite that, she still protected V in Cynosure facility and during the scene in her unit in Brooklyn (for me, the strongest moments in the entire game), she basically forgave V for stripping her of her last chance to freedom! Moreover, during that same scene, she was about to make a confession about the neural matrix but with the Blackwall's interferrence she was unable to spell it out. The fact that she didn't tell V the complete truth about the neural matrix was apparently eating her the whole time. In the Killing Moon, So Mi made that confession in the train, practically putting herself at V's mercy, just moments before she should board the shuttle... All this shows what a strong and remarkable personality So Mi was and that she did care a lot about V! As for Reed's story, he had to loose two of his closest operatives (given that we kill So Mi in Somewhat Damaged) to come to the realization about the NUSA, Myers, and especially himself (in all other endings he remains lost). I mean, that's a way too big price to pay for this... The fatal problem of Reed is not his loyalty to the NUSA - loyalty is not a bad trait of itself - but the fact that 1) he always lied to himself, he was a coward to admit the truth (unlike So Mi), and 2) that he thought the best for others is what he himself considers is the best. Think what you want but Reed is also to blame for So Mi's fate in here... So, after all that has been said above, and after playing all four main endings, I believe So Mi absolutely deserves the second chance, thus sending her to the Moon is the most satisfying and a canon ending for me. Killing So Mi - which really devastated me and I felt so much anger at Myers, Reed (and game developers as well :D) - is the only logical thing V should do if they decide to side with Reed. One last thing, I believe the fact V returns to the square one after each of these two endings is not random. PS: Excellent content on this channel!

I agree with most of this except the comparison you made between Songbird and V. In all the endings where V gets others involved, everyone who gets involved knows exactly what they are getting into, and in all the base endings the risk of another corporate war(and possibly a thermonuclear war involving Rogue AI as well) is very minimal, as the destruction of Arasaka is exactly what Yorinobu himself wants. Songbird on the other hand manipulates and lies to everyone around her, her every action risks another global corporate war, she herself is a very literal Weapon of Mass Destruction and puts herself into the hands of unscrupulous warmongers, and the worst of it is we're LUCKY it's just Kurt Hansen...like can you imagine if she was still in Barghest hands when Bennet or Jago took over? The ONLY person who had any idea of how much of a threat she is to ALL humanity is President Meyers. The comparisons are very unequal.

I've played all the endings and this is the one I consider my canon. Granted, the spaceport ending is a more fun (playing hide and seek with the robot is pretty stressful even when you know what you're doing) but I can't distance myself from the fact that it's a massacre and even if we put Song on that rocket, I'm not sure handing her to Mr BE is a good thing for her or anyone else. As much as she's a tragic character, she is also incredibly dangerous (as Slider put it, a two leg bomb) and in my view, too dangerous to live. Letting her die is the best option. It's also the best ending for Reed, granting him a new beginning (though at the cost of losing Alex, unfortunately). After that, it's Don't Fear the Reaper for my V and a blaze of glory.

I think many miss the point of Cynosure. Sure its Militechs counter to Soulkiller but when V arrives, Songbird is in control of the facility. She wants you to understand how she felt in the FIA. No Reed, no Silverhand, you are alone. Just like So Mi during her FIA years, a god-tier netrunner yet unable to escape the sterile walls she's chained in, despite being chromed up, there will be a higher entity to govern her. She, like V had ambitions, that led both of them to be in the situation right now. So Mi sick with blackwall via FIA abuse, V sick via Arasakas experimental Relic 2.0. They are two sides of the same coin.

There is an overwhelming amount of people thinking that sending song to the moon is promising as opposed to have the NUSA exploit her for life. What's Mr Blue eyes? An human rights activist and benefactor? He is going to release her after surgery and watch her grow as a woman and a person? Is that what happened with the Perales? Unfortunately but very poetically only killing song will set her free, the other options just make her a weapon is either Musa or Blue eyes hands. And I agree it's the best ending choice for this.

I just hate how the game goes out of its way to make V have to start from the very bottom down to them being poor; it fails to take into account what we’ve done in game and how much money we have by the time we get to dogtown. This is also due to the game story still having this race against time aspect of it that just clashes a lot with what we do in the game. Also the time you’re V is gone with the operation and how people just choose to drop you was a huge disappointment especially with the nomads. They go out of their way to strip V of everything; sacrificing a lot of character building done in the game already. That was my biggest gripe with the story of the expansion.

So i think so mi doomed V if they are around in the sequel. She contacted you via the relic and there are some serious implications because of that. In the beginning she dumped some "useless code" and replaced it with the militech software. You might think cool but what if she just left a backdoor for the AI. I'm of the belief that so mi was either already being puppeted or manipulated by the blackwall from the beginning and as a back up plan it exploited the relic which has its origins from soulkiller 2 which already uses AI to fry and copy people's minds. Just imagine in the sequel if Arasuka greenlights the relic project and sells it to the public suddenly a bunch of people have tech in them which can be exploited by the AIs and perhaps used in a way to take over a human body. In the ending which you side with the nomads and played phantom liberty Alt even hints at it saying v has with them a backdoor for the AI referring to the canto or Erebus. Honestly it's all speculation until the sequel comes out and i believe they can pull a mass effect and make all endings cannon in which v survive. If keenu Reeves comes back you can even make his ending cannon if he returns to voice act. I hope the do something like that and not just say choice A is cannon. Imagine instead of Johnny silverhand you know how a rogue AI companion and the story is about whether or not you side with the AIs or humans. Me personally I'm pro AI. Humanity fucked up the world, best leave it to machines which in a sense are the next step in evolution

I know this was supposed to be about Songbird, but I don't care for her, and honestly, the main reason I dislike this ending is that V puts himself is an... extremely, to say the least, vulnerable position with absolutely No Reason to trust the government, with the prime example of what happens to people who Do right before his eyes. I also just... hate the parting with Johnny. He doesn't deserve to be abandoned and handed over like that, and his speech is heart-wrenching to hear. As for V in a vacuum, without the price of this ending and the very very very messed up situation he could've put himself into by agreeing to the procedure, I think that living on without the implants is not that bad. I heard some fans say that this ending forces the character to abandon everything he strived for and that's why it's the worst one, and Yeah. Yeah this is exactly what might happen if you get terminal illness like that and have to go through extensive procedures to survive. You can't do the things you thought you wanted to anymore. Unacceptable price for staying alive right? Staying alive is much better than being dead, and whatever happens, I think V could try to find a new place for themselves in this city. Maybe it's better for that place to be outside the city and somewhere safer though. It's weird that the 'companions' react as nonchalantly as they do, but you can kind of get them? V is ultimately, a handyman that mutually helped each other out in a moment, then disappeared for months. This doesn't work if you were romancing someone, but, uh, it's a bit hard to judge considering the free relationships of the cyberpunk universe, isn't it. You could argue for human decency, and while I am grumpy about the companion's reaction, it's still hard to fault them for that, cause I don't really think moral high ground exists in cyberpunk. And well, again, if V survives he could make new friends, life would go on. It's gonna be tough sure, but there is a chance for improvement while he is alive. Still not ever picking that ending ever
@NatHazel5 ай бұрын
I think it’s the most cyberpunk ending. Admittedly yes, V is the main character, but Phantom Liberty isn’t their story as it’s Song’s. She had burnt every bridge ever in her life, friends and allies alike. She was a true Edgerunner: “no risk is too high, no way it’ll happen to me, I’m different.” Alex is killed by these choices, she’s no saint and probably has blood on her hands. But she strikes me as a type similar to song, she was just really good and recruited without much of a choice. And by the very end everything that made her up is stripped away, the one last little bit of herself, in her mind, the one thing that couldn’t be taken away by the NUSA, erased like it was bad code. As to her fate if you keep her alive, I’m imagining something like Rache almost. Completely plugged into machines as her brain and chrome are the only parts of use and Myers wouldn’t hesitate to turn her into a weapon, meant to endlessly wander the blackwall for more power. And in killing her, you give her peace. But on that same hand, you’ve killed a friend, someone who put their life and trust in your hands. Reed is left with nothing, and a broken man, his friends dead, the only thing he has left is his job which has now opened his eyes. Ana again bringing around my point it’s boys V’s story. Because if you choose to kill Song, Sol has the makings of an Edgerunner himself. Got chrome and skills, no past life, and one major op that killed his only friends. Though it could be equally just as argued that by ‘killing moon’ she was going to betray you along even if you do help her get to the moon. You kill Sol, and make an enemy of NUSA. But at least you can say you did right by someone who put their trust in you, even they didn’t trust anyone to begin with. Wherever you choose to fall on these sides, there really isn’t exactly wrong choice or best ending. It’s about what you want, you want a fancy prize, but what are you willing to pay for it? Could be some physical scars, could be sleepless nights, could be a good friend, could be your soul. But no one walks away without giving up something that means the world to them. Rogue of all people knows this best.
@vectorfox47825 ай бұрын
Think objectively. Songbird is a huge liability. You need a cure and Reed offers it with no strings attached other than telling you that you’ll lose your chrome. Fair deal. You’re a living legend of Night City. That’s good enough. Not every hero has to go out guns blazing.

The Cynosure level is a lot more like a horror game than anything else, although on my second playthrough, I found the Cynosure robot pretty easy to hide from, or avoid entirely. Spoiler stuff at this point: I have played to 3 endings in Phantom Liberty. The first one...I sided with Songbird because male Nomad V [a romantic type] was horrified by the murder of the Cassell twins. I continued with her but in the end I gave her over to Reed...finishing up with the Tower ending. Second time I sided with Reed and betrayed Songbird, struggled through the Cynosure complex and gave Songbird the death she wanted [female Corpo V, kind of a hardass]. This resulted in the end of V's contact with Reed, the FIA, Myers, etc. and put her back on track to the Nocturne endings. This totally surprised me...I took the '4 ways to finish Phantom Liberty' to mean that there were 4 new endings to the game. Now, fortunately I made a save before entering the Cynosure area, so I replayed the whole thing, but this time refused to kill Songbird and delivered her alive to Reed and Myers...and got to the Tower ending again. I have yet to play the 4th 'finish' to PL...which I gather is saving Songbird and putting her on the Lunar shuttle after killing Reed. I presume this puts me back to the Nocturne endings again. Now I have learned after 4000+ hours of play, over about 20 games, that there are no 'happy endings' in this game. I have come to believe, however, that the point is not a happy ending, but to meditate on how an individual reaches an unexpected, unwelcome fate, fights against it for a time, but eventually comes to accept it, as we all must...whether the fate is an easy one, or a hard one. There is a view that life is inevitably tragic because we all have to die...maybe too soon, maybe late enough that life becomes a burden. I don't share this view, but I understand the argument for it.

As for Songbird, giving her a merciful death was better than her becoming a weaponized Guinea Pig by Rosalind Myers and The NUSA or Mr. Blue Eyes and Night Corp but still she deserves better than being a puppet to the Government, Hansen, or a shadowy corporation possibly ruled by Rogue AIs. She was just another tragic character in the Cyberpunk Universe much like V and other characters.

Feed back, pretty good video. For story analysis I look at it like this Cyberpunk 2077 is not a game that surprises you unjustly, it warns you if you are paying attention. If you go with Judy plane to make clouds a Doll Collective, were you paying attention to both Suzy Q's and Mateo's retelling on what happened to the actually Lizzy Borden? Did not pay attention to Bree Whitney's apartment during the 'Shot by both sides' quest? I was disappointed by her behavior, but I couldn't call myself surprised. Could you tell Hasan Demir might have been a brilliant engineer but foolish in the ways of the street? I called Mr. Hands got so he could have the implant removed, and have Hasan released. I was not surprised in any other ending his fate is much worse. Songbird is a victim of circumstance, but is prone to blind highly emotional and short sighted decisions. I went back to Misty when I found new cards, i trust in her readings. So Mi makes short sighted decisions then goes for the Hail Mary Pass when the feces hits the rotor. I did not go into Phantom Liberty blind, I don't care about spoilers a book is still good through rereads or its a gimmick. My "V" embraced a foolish plan and got a bullet in the head and a dead best friend for it, Vincent or Valarie learns form their lessons. I sympathize with songbird, but I also recognize her foolishness. It is the foolishness of Paco, of Hasan, of Bridgette, of Eveylen, of Jackie, of Judy, some can be saved many can not be....thus I side with Reed. When i get to the end I will likely kill So mi.

both endings that let V get the cure are bad imo leaving the other 2 as my favorite choices. while i absolutely prefer the reed path in terms of its content i kinda started to go pivot more towards the moon ending as i personally like Songbird and Alex more than Reed and V doesnt need the matrix as we still have our base game endings. both paths should be experienced at least once tho to understand the entire story

So Mi lies to you in practically every facet and then plays as a victim. V is fighting to stay alive, but never betrays her friends (I mean, you can in the game, but who does?) and those who are close to her. So Mi, however, does at any chance she gets, even to her own friends and even her boyfriend and even Reed of all people, the man who saved her life. She breached the blackwall several times knowing the dangers it has on not only her physical body, but the rest of humanity as well. All so she can, what? Save her own life? So she can reach some neural matrix that we have to believe (believing in someone who has lied to you several times) will save her life... so she can be charged for high treason and probably be executed ANYWAYS. The only person who could understand her is V, and she betrays V, a corpo pawn tries to use you as a pawn... This doesnt mention how many countless innocent lives shes risking doing all this. Not JUST what killing the president could do, but also poking holes into the blackwall and potentially releasing those rogue AI to humanity. I have no sympathy for her at all. That being said, Phantom Liberty is one of the best DLC's for a game I've played in a long time.
@robadobflob23205 ай бұрын
Totally agree. Sure, you could say that V and Somi commit the same amount of crimes, but there's NUANCE to these crimes. Hurting those that are close to you is SOOOO much worse than killing gangers and corporats (especially when you find out that these guys you kill in gigs are indeed bad guys through data logs and whatnot). They are not on the same level at all, and Songbird shouldn't be excused purely because she's fighting for her life. Survival is not an excuse for equivocation of circumstances imo.

songbird admitted multiple times that she messed with nusa/militech and biotechnica even the blackwall but people disregard that and act like she’s did nothing wrong

The only correct ending is freeing Song, don’t care. Fuck militech, fuck Myers especially, do feel kinda bad having to zero Reed tho. Wish you could convince him to stand down or just hack him or disarm him, but I understand it’s for story impact.

The gameplay, mood, etc. are all fine but they are jarring so when compared to the rest of the game so I understand how & why people would be annoyed by this. For me though this is probably my favorite ending BECAUSE in this ending nobody really gets a "happy ending" ... V obviously doesn't get the cure BUT he does help a friend with their last request AND is there so they know that they aren't alone at the end ... So not a win but not a complete write-off spiritually .... Song dies but she's at least got some of her humanity left before she goes. Reed is left with guilt for everyone involved but MAYBE wakes up a little bit and considers his role with clarity he wouldn't have had before. NUSA doesn't get their weapon ... however their coverup is intact so it's not a worst case scenario for them. Alex probably got the biggest shaft as she got NOTHING other than oblivion with no consolation prizes at all.

I disagree with your comparison of Songbird and V's morality. The difference is not about lying, stealing or killing, because that's just how the setting is. The endings, for example. Where you see V dragging the nomads into danger, I see the nomads repaying someone who's risked his life for them so many times, they consider him a part of their family. Songbird drags us into Dogtown under false pretenses and hides that throughout almost the entire DLC, while pretending that she wants to open up. Hell, even in these emotional outbursts in the Cynosure facility, she never comes clean, we only learn about it if we choose to follow her over Reed. I get that her life has been tough, but at some point, everyone has to take responsibility for their own actions. The best option is probably to follow Reed, but then kill Songbird - as a mercy, but more importantly, to show the feds the middle finger.
@LayedBackGamers5 ай бұрын
My comparison if anything is more to make the statement V is no better than Songbird. Answer this question, do you genuinely think V wouldn't lie to a stranger to save themself? Do you think that if V had the choice between dying or lying, that V wouldn't choose to lie? V can come from a streetkid background with ties to the Tinos or even Arasaka itself. Even as a Nomad, they're not exactly known to be the most fond of outsiders. Likelyhood is V has killed innocents, gave false pretenses, etc. Not to mention that in Phantom Liberty, they can be a literal NUSA agent who does the same things Reed or Song does. Even in Firestorm, V essentially positions themself to betray Reed or Song. The decision to betray Song can even get Alex killed.
@jonaszpawlacz7565 ай бұрын
@@LayedBackGamers "lie to a stranger" is a pretty broad term. Cheating a corpo with more money than they could ever spend and cheating a struggling single mother out of her live savings can both be considered "lying to a stranger". But with Songbird, I'd argue she's not lying to a stranger, at least not later. She always emphasizes how she trusts V - she fact-checks Myers in that museum/display place, she opens up to V about her past, she keeps assuring that they'll both make it, but she does it all with the knowledge that she'll betray V in the end. By my standards, getting close to someone and stabbing them in the back after they've come to trust you is more scummy than just shooting them. Literally and figuratively.

Also how much did canon v lie steal or kill. Everyone insists that v is op but it never felt like that was v's choice and more what the player puts on v. So much that alot of people refer to v as female and not male. So was v really as strong as everyone plays him or did she only get by with a handfull of cyberware. If we're going to say v is op by that same definition v is the best subcon in nc. Best racer who never lost. Best guitarist, cause guitars are in the game but not playable untill they are. And we all know v can't play guitar but at least tries cause one can be found in his Japan town apt.

@@LayedBackGamers I just don't like this argument. Arguing that V, who CAN hurt those close to him, MIGHT HAVE gotten innocent people killed, is on the same level as Somi, who DID betray her friends, DID assassinate both her friends and potentially innocent people, and DID regularly hurt and manipulate those close to her to the point where she had nobody else to hurt... It just isn't the same. The potential, possibility, or assumption of V hurting people that didn't deserve it is not on the same level as the actual confirmable, canon acts of Somi hurting people that didn't deserve it. I can see the rationality if you were arguing that V *can be* as bad as Songbird, *has the potential* to be as bad as Songbird. Sure. But the answers to the hypotheticals you ask are based on not only the player's version of V, the player's own choice, and canon V. Yeah, maybe some Vs WOULD lie to a stranger. Some Vs WOULD get their own friends killed to save their own skin. But some other Vs WOULDN'T. It's hard to say what canon V would do since "canon V" is mainly left up to interpretation as of right now. Even so, I'd say that V *has potential* to be as bad of a person as Songbird, but also *has potential* to be the supernatural badass good guy that a lot of people played them as. I just don't think it's very genuine to say "V is no better than Songbird" when looking at strictly what is fact versus what we assume. The fact is, Songbird IS a bad person. V MIGHT (NOT) BE a bad person. No shade, of course.

From a personal point of view, honnestly, i cant side with no other than So Mi! She was recruited, weaponized, betrayed, robbed from everything and at the end, she is only trying to spread the wings and fly away from everything. She knows that she is bad, that she had done horrible things and even so, i cannot blame any other than Reed, NUSA, Myers, the Agency, everyone else but never her! So, at the end, the path i choose is allways to save her and send her to the Moon with the cure, even Rocker Boy knows that So Mi deserves it.

"Cyberpunk isn't about saving humanity, its about saving yourself" Even though David couldn't get to the moon himself in the end, he did everything he could to make sure Lucy did. Considering that at the point in the story in which Phantom Liberty occurs, V & Johnny are unsure if they can still be saved, I think they would do everything they can to make sure someone else was (So-Mi)

the “cyberpunk isn’t about saving the world, its about saving yourself” is invalid. cyberpunk is about saving the world, not yourself. v is a reflection of arthur morgan or the modern arthur morgan because they both put other people first before themselves

I think this is the best ending for Song Bird, Mr. Blue eyes is too dubious and going back to NUSA would be a s**t show and far too problematic down the line, she could very well be the catalyst to Rogue A.I taking over. In real life I do believe that as long as you breathe there's a chance for redemption, but in this scenario Song Bird has to die. Not for the petty "She tricked me" reason but for the greater good. Morally "V" shouldn't question this at all, you literally Zero countless people your essentially a serial killer no matter how you justify the bodies, low key we might be the villain so why have a moral switch when it comes to Song Bird, King of Cups for the win.
