You need to press them into the mud to get level and get 100% coverage under the tile. If you just slap them down you don’t have the tile imbedded and will adventually pop! 20 yrs experience!
@luqmanhafidh89146 жыл бұрын
It pretty works if you have a 100% flat floor, no need of levelling. But many floors with bumpings you'll need a levelling device
@bhtiller6 жыл бұрын
Luqman Hafidh, if you watch, as I’m wiping the mud from the joint with my thumb, I’m also feeling if level or not. Also I have a Tuscan Leveling system if needed.

Lots of ways to put down tile. The way it is done here is fine, though I would really like to have seen some kind of cement board put down first. That said, if you respond here with what your installers were doing more precisely, I can tell you if they are doing it wrong. 15 years of doing this for a living, here.

Lisa, NEVER start in the center, always lay out tile centered, yes. But snap lines, be sure to be square throughout area, and start from one end of the room and work your way out otherwise you'll work urself into a corner n won't finish the room in one day

wish I could reply to Mrs. Lisa Knowitall below but for some reason youtube is selective on who I can reply to these days. That being said, starting from the center is usually right if you are doing one room but as it appears in this vid, where you have the same tile spanning three different rooms you measure and pop lines so you dont end with ridiculous small or unbalanced cuts from wall to wall or up to the kitchen counter, etc... the best you can. looks like a good job to me. funny I also dont use a mallet and push tiles together to squeeze out the extra mud and have a Brutus cutter.

Some people soak the tiles in water for couple of hours. I don't know why, anyone with an idea why they do so?
@arnoldmanukure72116 жыл бұрын
Some of the tile are soo water demanding to the extent that, if u don't soak them in water for a while . And u lay them, it will get dry as soon as u lay it on the spreaded mortar . Which is not good for the job cos the job have to take some hours to dry up so that in case there is any misbehaving of lines shifting u can correct it

I don't recommend pressing down so hard on the tile after you lay it down.
@mattosbourne79449 жыл бұрын
+Keith Dobbs He's okay doing this since he's not applying any mortar to the back of the tile before laying down. As long as the ridges on the underside of the tile don't have air gaps, either method works.

This guy doesn’t know what he is doing. When laying ceramic tile, the subfloor needs to be about 1.5inches thick to stave off flexing. If you don’t do this, the tiles will begin to crack due to flexing of the subfloor. Ask a contractor. Ive been doing ceramic tile for 17 years and never had a customer complain about 1 single broken/cracked tile.
