Your bee video reminds me of a story I once heard... A girl was working at a shop that sold wonderful handmade candles. She got super excited one day because one of her favorite celebrities came in to shop. He was looking at the candles, and she went to help... She wanted to describe the process usec to create the candles, to explain how the high quality natural products were used, and that they smelled so delicious that sometimes bees would fly in because they were attacted tothe scent of the candles... Instead, she looked at him with a somewhat dazed look on her face and said, "Umm... that'll give you bees." He looked at her like shewas insane and quickly left. I felt so sorry for her!!

I had an idea for 2019 content, you could do a series similar to this but about gardening and cook with your vegetables and such on your cooking channel. I’d imagine the bees would love it too! I love gardening videos and you’re so relaxing to watch I’d be in heaven 💙 just an idea though! Happy new year, Emmy!

Wow Emmy! What an investment of not only time, but money! I didn't realise how complex and time consuming it can be! You truly care. Bees are the life of the planet, so God bless you for keeping them. My partner keeps bees in Serbia, but he never tells me all of this, so THANK YOU! I visited a great bee keeping place in Macedonia which has won awards all over Europe for their honey, and I find it fascinating. I have the video on my channel, and would love for you to watch it, and tell me what you think of the varieties of honey. THANKS for this GREAT series! I so enjoy them! XOX

How many times do you get stung while doing maintenance on the hives? I'd like to keep bees but am a little leery as i've never been stung before & don't know how I'd react
@Poisonlover3235 жыл бұрын
Can be said that you can be stung if you’re careless like not using smoke. She doesn’t get stung bcuz the bees already know that she’s the keeper. But keep in mind that u still hv to use smoke to let them know that you’re there and to avoid them from stung you. I dont hv experience but this is what i heard from the fans

Hi from Australia. Just a question about the bottom board beetle traps. You would have to check the tray each time you had heavy rain .? Thanks Neville
@emmymadeextras5 жыл бұрын
Yes, you’re right. It needs to be checked. I’ll have to take some time to work on sealing it off.
@alphaxanon5 жыл бұрын
You're supposed to put diatomaceous earth in the traps around the bait to kill the beetles that are herded inside the traps. That applies to both the beetle barns and the CD traps from earlier videos.

Probably a stupid question... but when doing things with the be hives, are bees getting squished on accident? They seem to be everywhere, how can you be sure you are avoiding hurting any of the bees?

" I got bees on my brain" I love your vlogs they are just so fascinating ..... I'm curious to know what do they do all winter . Do you leave the hives outside ? Or bring them in a barn ? I know nothing about bee keeping .
@LaynieFingers5 жыл бұрын
They're left outside. In colder areas, beekepers will add insulation around the hives. Bees are able to huddle together and flap their wings to generate heat. They're amazing little creatures!
@emmymadeextras5 жыл бұрын
Yes, the hives are wrapped in tar paper for insulation and mostly left alone.

Take those swifter sheets out! You had what, 12 beetles, not worth the risk of getting your queen tangled in them and dying. Use your bait traps and screened bottom and if really bad infestation use guard star on ground in front of hives at night. The best defense is a strong hive! Get information from Joe Mayo (little bits of honey) or David (Barnyard Bees) on utube, check out their collaboration on Dec. 29 you tube question and answer live cast. They had several master bee keepers, with honest answers to beekeepers problems.

Small hive beetles have backwards barbs on their feet, bees don't. Never ever have seen a honey bee queen in fuzzed up microfiber towel of any sort.
@cubaniton743 жыл бұрын
Take that inner cover, and seal all those gaps it has on the inner perimeter because the beetles will use those open gaps as motels to hide from the bees, and not only will they hide in there, but they will lay eggs in there and while they are in there, they will beg the bees for food and the bees will feed them (it is true, look it up). You can fill those gaps with wood glue mixed with sawdust, or epoxy mixed with sawdust. If you wish to be more organic, then use beeswax and melt it in there, or use a wax candle (plain), light it up, and as the wax drips, fill those gaps with the wax, this will take a while, but it will get the job done; you can later use a heat gun or maybe a hair dryer to heat up the wax to even out some of the bumps the dripping wax will leave behind. Whatever you do or however you do it, just make sure those inner covers don't have any gaps where the beetles can hide and the bees can't reach them. And finally, place a heavy block of concrete or two (heavy concrete pavers look nice), on top of the metal cover, that way if the wood has some kind of warp in it, the heavy blocks will flatten it out and prevent any gaps between all those wood layers (main cover, inner cover, hive box, bottom board, etc.).

I'm no expert, but don't bee's, like the way ant's do, have there own bee millitary force, that defends the hive from hostile's? They may not have dedicated army/warrior bees, like an ant colany has army ants. But a bee hive has a swarm that would attack you if you didn't smoke them and have your armor/bee-suit on. Just to clarify, my question is, why don't the bee's defend there own colany from the beetle things?
