More or less, they were friends all the time and Layne loved no one more than Jerry cause their connection was a true one: a soul connection and that's what Jerry always claimed too. I'm not sure about how their contact was in the last years of Layne but Jerry always was in Layne and Layne in him.

@@playafromdasouth6 Jerry visited and played often with him until the last year or so and then Jerry flew Mark Lanegan to his apartment because Layne fell out of contact and he knew Layne would answer the buzzer for Mark. Mark and Mike Starr were dearer to Layne than any of his band mates. Layne really didn’t like or respect Jerry because Jerry was demanding and critical, and that’s why Jerry is still healthy and successful, even now.

The guy had a intrview of a liftime when Layne called in.Instead of keeping the convo going. He said "thanks for calling in Layne" Layne stopped doing all press during that period. If you listen Jerry's voice gets all serious when Layne is asked about hearing Jerrys album. Its a damn shame where their relationship was at this point. I miss you Mr.Staley

It’s really heartbreaking to hear them talk to each other like complete strangers. It’s a shame how their friendship fell apart as Layne spiraled deeper and deeper into his addiction and self isolation. Rest easy, Layne. You’re dearly missed

@@amiinside91 No way in hell he weighed 130-140. That was his weight whilst being healthier around 90-93. I'm sure 86 lbs was just due to losing all the fluid etc. but he could not have weighed more than 110-115 at the most. Looking at the last photos from around 98-99 you can definitely see he's gotten almost skeletal and that was 3 years prior to his actual passing. I've read the David de Sola book in which his mom states he's never weighed more than 150-160 and that was in his in between rehab stints in 93 when he looked way fuller and bulkier. He's always been a lean guy. Being 6"1 obviously didn't help his thin figure.

They didn’t love each other. Jerry loved what Layne was capable of that he wasn’t. Layne didn’t respect Jerry but was afraid of what he could do as composer of the band. There was no love, and that’s why Layne shut him off in his final months. Jerry was/is a demanding businessman. Always has been. Layne wasn’t about that life. They’re two totally different people who had an opportunity and only 1 of them took it. Listen to 31/32 by Jerry Cantrell on his Degradation Trip volume 2 album. He beat his own addiction battles and came out clean. He’s a fighter.

They had been apart for a few years? 1998 was a sad time even more now to me. Geri left the Spice Girls to go solo and Layne wasn't in AIC. The Kings and Queens of the 90s both missing a hugely important member. Sad 😟 Layne said he didn't recognize Jerry calling him by his name.
