I wonder how long it does take to finish such a masterpiece. Of course, I've no painting background, but I like to watch paintings a lot.
@LayneJohnsonStudio4 ай бұрын
For this size painting it typically takes me about 4 weeks. But it all depends on the subject, size, etc.

Now I just found out your from texas too, cool beans. I just met a painter a while back named William Smith thats from George West, Texas. He paints well also. And at about 9:55, we all them dagger bushes but i think the proper name is yucca. Such a blessing. :)

There's so many types of cacti and succulents across this area! And so many "local" names for things. :)

Hi, How did you paint the grass textures? I have trouble with getting the detail that you have in the grasses. Thank you.

Same problem here! And it was the only thing he didn’t go much in detail with :(

I typically use old brushes, or brushes that I've created for grasses. Here's another video on how to do that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6umkIyvZpqXi80

Thank you Layne! Can you share how you use your mahl stick for adding detail? How you balance it on the easel?
@LayneJohnsonStudio8 ай бұрын
Hi Christine! You can see how I balance my mahl stick in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5-kfWinl8SIgLMsi=qRohu7cyuL8upntp Fast forward to about 2 1/2 minutes into the video and you'll see my bigger mahl stick that I use with my big easel. It's really about giving your hand and arm something steady to rest against when you're painting those details. Whether you're working big or small. :)

@@LayneJohnsonStudio Thank you Layne! You are the best! My husband made a mahl stick for me but your idea of having a hook at the end is genius.

I paint in layers, so wet-on-dry (most of the time). 👍
