Outstanding! Happy New Year. The palm trees are great and both views are too.

Great work, Rick - especially the tall palms. The Atlantic Coast Line RR planted palm trees at nearly every station in Florida way back in the 1920's or 30's. They are also very tall and are called "Washingtonia Palms". Some of them are still around today.

Hi Rick. I am loving the addition of the trees and static grasses. It certainly adds a sense of realism to the layout. The bridge scene will be awesome when you get around to making the changes you talked about.

First off, that GP9 is nice. Sounds great, looks like it runs great. The bridge looks good, you'll need to figure out how to get some light under/behind it so the shadow doesn't look weird, or maybe have a shadow on the backdrop? The trees look good, the pine looks nice and the palms look way better with the height modification. And lastly, I agree, perspective makes a big difference. I find the same thing with my layout. I designed my benchwork to be at eye level while seated as well. Keep up the great work

Rick, I do not know about out there, but in our city the railroad has closed a few crossings to traffic and took down the crossing signals. The railroad put up a metal highway guard rail across the road at the crossing. Some have flashing red lights or others have the road closed sign. If you want to get around you must go a block or two over to the next crossing. The crossing where you ended the video just seems to be the perfect place for a guard rail across the road for traffic coming from the backdrop. The scenery looks just right for it.

Looks awesome, I love the Palm trees and the kit bash that you did to them. I live in Az and want to have Palm trees for my dioramas and my future self layout because I want to do the area I live in Glendale Az which is close to the tracks.

I like your views of the railroad. Perhaps your operations can be at your view? It might make filming a bit more challenging though. You do a great job and I enjoy watching your content.

There are actually several different species of palms, which explains some of the visual differences. The cheapos are OK for some types, the tall ones are deliberately placed to look good on some streets. I got some cheapos based on an earlier video you put out, I like em!

I'm glad that the bridge is finally in. My layout will have to be built much lower as I'm in a wheelchair, bummer.

My, Rick, you move quickly on that layout! I enjoy following your progress. Say hi to Mr. Torres for me :)

Great progress. The eye-level shot with the taller palms: 10 of 10 🌴💯. The backdrop looks perfect at that angle. Would make a good still photo for your community tab. Maybe edit with some "golden hour" effect. Bridge is looking good too! I think Ben needs a road trip to Lowes 😁

There are some 100 different species of palm trees in your area,certainly cannot go wrong. Nice looking bridge, will make the scene pop! Got an idea to throw out at ya. California is good for making films um on a film set they sometimes have a camera on a cart rolling across the track, so let your mind run wild with that 😅. I know what I would do if it was my layout.

Maybe put some LEDs under the bridge to eliminate the shadows and brighten it up.

Scenery in Orange is coming along nicely. Those of us in the Midwest have no idea about the proper height of Palm trees, so your discussion was very informative as was the explanation of how you construct the Palms and the Pine trees. Are my eyes deceiving me? Does SP 588 actually have working headlights?
@socalscalemodels2 күн бұрын
Yes, SP/UP 588 does have new LED's in it, but I'm not happy with the color and they do not turn off. So I'll be reworking them.
@craigcorson1235Күн бұрын
I stand corrected on the identity of (ExSP)-UP 588. Headlights for it do seem to be problematic. I like the look of the new bridge. I am looking forward to the addition of water and the necessary scenery. Would placing a mirror in the background help with the low lighting problem? It would make the river look a little larger.

So, apparently I'm not the only one who purchased his own Christmas/Birthday railroad presents. I was feeling a tad guilty about that but at least I got the locomotives I wanted. The new SP does sound great and looks good with the weathering job.

I picked up some supplies from Fast Tracks for myself. A lot easier than trying to explain it to my family.
