A fantastic weathering job on the GP9E . I will be doing this kind of weathering with all my engines . Thanks for showing how you do it.

Takes a lot of courage to attack your $200/300 locomotive. Love the way the white powder toned it down. Like you say you only need a small amount of weathering powder. It’s very easy to go overboard. Excellent job that ends up with a very subtle effect. 👍👍🚂

Great weathering tutorial. That's how I do mine. Everything is powders and then some clear coat.

Nailed it. I don't think I've ever seen a clean SP loco. I grew up in SoCal and even then you could tell they were worked hard. Nice job on the weathering.

If it was Rio Grande, just spray it all black! Nice job on the Geep ! That shinny plastic look has to go.

Man pretty close to the other SP never knew that it could be so simple. I've been watching Boomer in his latest weathering project it just amazing, alot of food for thought from you guys.

Rick - Thanks so much for this video! I myself have been wanting to take a stab at weathering my Rapido SP RS-11, but didn't have the courage until now. It doesn't really appear to be that difficult, so I'm gonna give it a try. Thanks again! 🙌

Looks great. I had concerns in the beginning dulling that the light covers weren't masked but i see the dull coat didn't effect their brightness. I must get another compressor and since I have this locomotive I will want to do the same. Thanks for sharing your techniques. You are doing a modern era and SP never washed their locos. You could go even heavier on the grime.

Man that came out good. I've used Pan Pastels Colorless Blender for fades in the past. But I like Tamiya Flat White with IPA better. I have a weathering project on my bench/kitchen table as we speak. Happy New Year 💥💫🎆

Your comment about getting clear coat on tires was right as locos do actually have tires on the wheels. 😉 Love your ad hoc approach to weathering brings about its own realism to the model. 😄
@beeble200318 сағат бұрын
Modern locomotive wheels are one-piece. Steam locomotives had steel tyres but I'm not sure diesels ever have.
@switchitarailroad17 сағат бұрын
@beeble2003 the diesels here in the UK do so assuming the same world over, more cost effective. Worked with BR for 5 years and had to take locos down on many occasions to the wheel lathes back in the 90s

Nice!! I have some SP locos that will need to be done one day!! They look wrong clean........lol EDIT what you can do with those side windows is hold a piece of cardboard in front when you do around the window area.

I have a short video slide show on my channel, and there is actually more than one clean, freshly delivered, locomotive present; mostly. There is also an ancient HO Scale train video filmed at a regional club, but the quality is about as good as that 20 year old (now) phone could film. If you watch close it's an SP reight with a GE U30C on point, a DD35, and U25B trailing a mixed manifest. I'm really enjoying your style Rick. Too bad we are so far apart, I could arrange to make a large number of late 70's cars available for filming. I'm no longer in a club running 100 car trains like the SP used to do. Cheers.

Good 🎥 📽️ video. How about doing a video on Super detailing a locomotive or rolling stock and perhaps renumbering them?
@robmagu6512 сағат бұрын
Nice, easy weathering. I would highly recommend that you at least put a piece of cardboard or protect the trucks, especially when using the clear coat. That residue can get in there and really muck things up.

tamiya airbrush cleaner

I was shown a house painters trick many years ago to use wet newspaper as a mask for glass. I'm wondering if this might work with tissue for models, I haven't tried myself yet.

Fyi the pieces on each side of the side windows are mirrors.
