When I was 9 or so, I loved the Layton series, to the point where I currently am only missing Azran Legacy and Miracle Mask from my collection. Hadn't touched the series in years until a Nintendo Direct in 2017 that showed this game off. Picked it up around Christmas, got to case 2, and never played it again. Come last year, I decided to pick up the Deluxe Edition to see if it was any good/better. Played through the entire thing and loved every minute of it. Brilliant soundtrack, memorable and likeable characters, fantastic dialogue, and the case structure really made the game feel unique and fun. Maybe this is because it's been years since I've played the Layton games, but this is easily my second favourite right after Lost Future. It has flaws, but I strongly recommend it. Now how about a sequel?

Frédèrique Fje use the magic of 3mu1at10n to play the 3 original games and the 1st of the prequels, all that games are simply masterpieces. This one is just trash, and oh how hurts me say that about something related to the Layton series T_T

In my opinion the entire theme slaps, especially the part that starts at 1:52 but it made the game seem more epic and grand than it was. I seriously hope we get a new game or movie with Layton in it one day. That would be such an amazing comeback. There was a second movie and live action adaptation planned long ago but unfortunately nothing came out of it...

wauw, this truly mindblowned me for a moment haha. This could very well be true now that I think about it but I can find 2 plotholes in it. 1. Where is Luke and what happened to him? 2. If Layton is the dog than why did he wait 10 years to go to katrielle?

I ended up with this game by complete accident and I've really taken a liking to it. I don't actually know a lot about the Layton series because I never had it when I was younger or anything, so I had never played any other Layton games prior to getting this one and wasn't familiar with anything besides the puzzle solving aspect of the gameplay. I get most of my video games pre-owned from ebay or second hand stores, so as I did my regular sweep of the local CEX, I came across a copy of Miracle Mask for relatively cheap. So I figured, why the heck not, and bought it with a bunch of other games. Idk much about other pre-owned game stores, but the way CEX works is that they only have the cases on display, and when you take the case to the till to pay, they pop the game card/disk into the case. The clerk that day clearly wasn't paying attention to his job because when I got back to my apartment to try out some of the games I got, I realised that the clerk had not given me Miracle Mask, but Layton's Mystery Journey instead. I obviously realised that it was a mistake because of the different titles but I didn't really know what difference it made because I wasn't familiar with the series, so I just decided to keep it and look for the actual game card for Miracle Mask on ebay later. And, I have to say as a completely unbiased party without prior experience of the initial Professor Layton series, I really love this game and everything about it. I'm a very anxious person by nature, so the soft soundtrack and pleasant colour palettes alongside puzzles that I actually have to think about and stories to get invested in are fantastic distractions from real-life stressors and anxiety attacks, and are really relaxing to play through. I want to try out the other Layton games too to see how this one fares alongside them, but idc what anyone says, I really like this as a standalone game. I love my sweet English gentlewoman detective

Yeah the problem is that this game is trying to capitalize on laytons past successes even though it has very little to do with him, and a staple of the layton games is phenomenal main themes. Of course this game is basically nothing like the past layton games but is marketed to look like that. So, as a result, we are stuck with an intense main theme with an extremely lackluster main story to go along with it.

This game had it’s flaws but there’s definitely potential for this to be the future of the series. I actually enjoy Katrielle, Ernest and Sherl as a trio more than Layton, Luke and Flora / Emmy (controversial I know 😂) but future games need to introduce the overall plot / mystery earlier on and have (better) antagonists

One big flaw is how the story focuses on short episodic stories that aren't related with each other instead of focusing on an overarching plot involving the main characters which is part of what made Layton games be worshipped

WHY WORST I DON'T UNDERSTAND

This game is not bad bad but it has a lot of bad points that stainted it. The main problem is how everything feels disconnected. There is no main plot as suggested by the tittle "the millonaire conspiracy". The game is about going on little cases, which again it isnt bad, but its really underwhelming when compared to what Layton did. This could still function, but the main plot burning it down. The main story that would be promoted is revealed at the end. Which would make this game a bunch of cases thrown together. This game wouldnt have had been a dissappointed if they had actually branded it as what it is, or would have fix the story so you get feed the main plot bit by bit, rather at the end. The mystery of sherlock gets completly forgotten, as well as Layton's disappearance. Again, they were setting the stage for the future, but they made it in a very misleading way. The main point is that, it wasnt marketed for what it was actually.
