This is the greatest dance on Strictly. The emotion completely connected with the technique. Years later I still come back and watch this and it blows me away. I could break it down (I'm a dancer) but I don't want to because it's art and moves my soul. In the first half of the dance you can see Layton doing his own thing, the second half he is totally in it and responding to Nikita. This makes me love dance and I admire you so much Nikita for sticking with this

Someone very close to me has been going through a difficult time lately, and watching Layton and Nikita has really brought them so much happiness. THAT is what Strictly is about. WOW! This was definitely on some other level, they were dancing on the edge, completely in the moment and drew everybody in with them. The passion, drama, intensity, choreography, music, lighting and outfits came together perfectly. I feel like this is what we've REALLY been waiting for from Layton. A dance in which he showcases his skill by performing complex choreography from start to finish of the dance he's been assigned- no tricks or showboating (as amazing and brilliant as he is at them)- and pure emotion and storytelling from him. What wonderful comments. Not just me, then. I have watched this routine over and over, and it seems to be past in seconds. Thee naysayers have no idea how special and how good, and how full of hope this is (yes, I have been slagged off here for adoring this routine, but hey, that's life; not my problem, but the other persons) I have been overwhelmed at how much Layton is learning and progressing, both as a dancer and as a person, and how brilliant this teaming with Nikita has been. To me, this is the height of his achievement. He has moved his core, and strengthened it. Changed his entire approach to dance and his place within it, and has matured so much as a talent and as a person. And if people cannot see and accept the achievement and the joy of this, they have a problem all of their own. I also think Layton deserves real credit for knowing he would be trolled and abused for his place on this show, and yet he has had the courage and the nerve for daring to do it anyway. All these complaints about him being a professional dancer; yes, he is. But he isn't the same now, and his learning curve has been as intense as anyone else's Comparitively, someone may be an English teacher, but that doesn't mean they can teach maths without total retraining. And this is exactly the same situation. Sadly, I don't think he will be allowed to win, Ellie Leach will, and she will have earnt it, but Layton will have won a different, more valuable and more especial victory that speaks to people, and with a reward greater than a glitter ball..

I've been watching strictly since season 2 and this is genuienly one of the best dances I have seen in the history of the show. I can't even fully put my finger on why; a combination of skill, storytelling, atmosphere, chemistry, artistry. Like Motsi said, it will never again be done like this. 100% deserved 40. I have been watching Strictly since it started in May 2004 and whilst every series has given us some outstanding dances I don’t think I have every seen such an absolutely amazing dance as this Argentine Tango. Nikita’s choreography is brilliant but however good the routine is in theory it also needs the celebrity to put in the hours to bring it to the next level - and boy did Layton do that. For me not only has this been the dance of the series (so far) but of the whole programme since 2004. Well done doesn’t seem enough.

Yep, hard agree. Ellie fan here, but that 9 from Craig was ludicrous. This dance was a 40 by any standards. Craig is obviously holding on to his 10 paddle till Blackpool, but it looks ridiculous when that conceit is stopping him from awarding the proper marks for pre-Blackpool perfection like this.

Yes definitely worth 4 tens. I hope they ask Craig why he stopped at 9. The skill, timing and detail of this is mesmerising and I love how they kept in character, even beyond the finish. Just wow!

I have never taken to layton at all, not my favourite by a long shot but I would say that was the best dance of the series, not just the evening. I want Ellie to win but that deserved a 40 tonight. Craig gets on my nerves with his under scoring.

I love how they were in character before the music started and for several seconds after it ended. This was a breakthrough dance for this pairing - it finally felt authentic and as though they’ve gelled. It took a while, but was worth it

There was one teeny tiny little wobble in the side to side section at the beginning. I bet he saw it. However, as Len once said, sometimes a 10 isn’t perfect; it’s just better than a 9. And that deserved a 40

Wow ! Layton & Nikita ! Amazingly superb performance of Argentine Tango. I always love yr dances the best. Your dance performance is electric, unique, out of this world. Craig has got a too much ego, so he could not give 10 which makes him "unjust" but Layton & Nikita are without a shred of doubt the best performer of this year's Strictly group.
