@@dilly7943 In Cuba he wouldn't be referred to as a Black Cuban.
@ogcubanyc11 күн бұрын
@@kar5431Cubans are Cubans. We are tri-racial ppl Black, European & Native Taino Indian. The whitest Cubans have black ancestry and the darkest Cubans also have white ancestry… the specific lineages are what makes us Cuban. But yes it is politically correct in America to associate ourselves with blackness and black culture just like Puerto Ricans Dominicans etc.

I've been to Cuba and most Cubans there, whether they be Black or Brown, celebrate their African heritage. They do admit though that colorism can be an issue in their society at times.

@@briguy991in America, many reject it
@briguy9914 ай бұрын
@@ertfgghhhh This is because most of the Cubans who immigrated to the United States during/after the Cuban Revolution were racially white and were a part of the "ruling class" in Cuba who were overthrown during the revolution. Before the Cuban Revolution, Cuba mirrored the racial and wealth caste systems here in the United States, and this is why many White Cubans in the United States align with Conservative ideologies You also see these ideologies influence Cuban immigrant migration patterns (the more conservative (and primarily white) Cubans mostly settled in Miami, while most of the more white and Liberal, as well as Black and Brown Cubans settled in places like the DMV (where Laz is from and where I live). Many of the latter simply just didn't have faith in Castro's Socialist economy fixing Cuba, so they immigrated to the US.
@ertfgghhhh4 ай бұрын
@@briguy991 I grew up in DC in 70s and 80s. Back then, the Puerto Ricans , Dominicans, and Cubans, etc considered themselves black. We were indeed chocolate City. I was referring to the Cubans in Fla.

Most of my Afro- Cuban friends do not have an issue with being considered being of afro decent they just don't like people telling them that they are just black as if the Cuban parent Dna is removed by the black parent Dna. My husband dad is white and he does not consider himself white but he will tell you he is mixed race and a lot of people have an issue with that even though he has his dad's white features, extremely light skin and green eyes. Both of my parents are black and that is what I claim but if I had 1 parent of another race I would claim both and not force black people to tell me that I am black only and that is what our people are guilty of.

Even though I and mi siblings and mother were born here My father was Cuban with African ancestry So with his strong sense he of pride I deeply felt like I was born more Afro Latina than American I didn’t really mingle with Afro Americans until I went to college Since my classmates who weren’t white ( went to Catholic school) were Caribbean born or Central American or decent (1st generation) like myself I deeply appreciate both cultures in me But right up today it’s still controversial here for me being Latina especially since I’m a dark chocolate brown complexion But so be it because I was taught from very young to love myself & I DO!!!!!
