you could have just got a pcie extender instead of hacking up the card then you would only need to make a couple of cuts in the case. Plus a pcie extender is 5 dollars max
@LazerLord107 жыл бұрын
How exactly would that extender mount to the computer? I'm pretty sure that part of the mechanical strength of holding in a video card comes form the actual PCI-e connector, and if there's an extender not mounted to the motherboard, I don't see how the card would be able to mount properly.
@trashman80947 жыл бұрын
It's basically an extension cable that plugs into the pcie connector. I built a machine with a simular motherboard layout so I couldn't fit the card in the default orientation. So what I did it is I modded the case by cutting out airflow vents in the side panel and mounting the card, fans facing up to the side panel. I Cut out a hole for the io and bolted on some L brackets to which I then bolted on some plexi glass so it acted as a back plate. I then found some random hook looking things in a hardware store and bolted them to the plexi so the weight was supported by the hooks and also by the little lip of the cards Io shield that I simply bolted to yet another L bracket. The card sat very securely it was flush with the side of the case and didn't droop. Sorry if it's hard to understand what I'm saying I would show you pictures of it but I scrapped it for parts. Basically get creative with it.
@LazerLord107 жыл бұрын
Hmm... Sounds like it worked out well for you. Maybe in my next build, if I have a similar problem, I can try that. It probably would have been easier for me considering I could easily 3d print a couple of mounting brackets. Well, my method works well so long as it's a cheap card I don't really care about, but your method would work a lot better if I needed to keep the card in tact. Thanks!

@LazerLord107 жыл бұрын
People seem to be concerned about the wellbeing of that graphics card, so let me put a few things out there before you report me for GPU abuse: Yes, it would have been better if I used a PCI-e extender cable and mounted the card elsewhere. This would have actually been easier, as I own a 3D printer and could easily have made effective mounting brackets. However, that didn't cross my mind at the time. No, the graphics card is in no danger of overheating and thermal throttling. In my overnight test, when the CPU and GPU were fully stressed and under the limitations of their power budget, no thermal throttling occurred. Yes, this CPU is less powerful than most laptops nowadays, but if it adequately plays games, then it fulfills its purpose. Remember, it was *$15*. No, I couldn't have used a more modern small form factor card, because cards that are newer than this tend to require a UEFI BIOS, which this 2009 motherboard didn't support. See the video for a few more details on that. No, I didn't completely ruin that graphics card. It was worth about $60 at the time, and by the time this computer will be replaced, it'll barely be worth shipping. If it works, then it works. No, the bottom PCI-e slot wouldn't work. It wasn't wired as an x16 slot, only x4. I tried it just to see if it would work, but the computer wouldn't boot in that configuration.
@PedroChehoud7 жыл бұрын
when you upgrade the GPU you can use the extender =)

Of course depending on the game. But IN MY OPINION my PC can still keep up now a days without a hitch. I play GTA V at 1080p high everything average FPS is 65-75. I can play Minecraft with about 500 mods and realistic texture pack with shaders enabled and still game smoothly over 110 average FPS. My PC has never given me an issue and has never failed to install or play a game. It is more or less stock barebones. The only extra parts I have added have all been used and are nothing special ( I had to replace the fan on the graphic card. looks pretty shitty. )With this being said my PC has never thermal throttled on me and can still pass all benchmarks with "factory" tests. I figured I would share my experience with you. Great video man. Have a great day! :)

I recently bought a hp elite desk sff with an i5 4570, 8gb ram, still waiting for it to arrive, for my niece who's getting more and more in to pc gaming these days. It Only cost me £120 with shipping. I quite like those hp elite and dell optiplex sff business machines . I use a couple of them for my own business, and they work quite well. They're cheap and reliable, and easy to find used since most are bought on service deals, and are pretty much just discarded afterwards. The psu's can handle way more than you would think considering they're only 240 watt, but are also very efficient, and well made. Currently she has another HP elite, with a core 2 quad. and a 1050ti which is massively held back by the cpu. Considering the whole system has cost about £260 with the video card, and will happily run just about anything, and run it well. it's definitely the best bang for your buck for a budget gaming system. Obviously with a 240 watt psu and a small form factor your going to have limitations. But with graphics cards these days drawing less power, and becoming more powerful all the time these types of systems are becoming more viable for cheap gaming systems, or just general home use.

to the people that doubt his second hand finds complaining you can't reproduce, sure, mabe not 100%, but that's just how second hand market works, it's more a general idea, not an exact part list. for example I built a system for a friend last month with low budget: i5-3470 / 8GB / 500GB HDD + Win7 for $60 (Lenovo SFF prebuild, Craigslist) 750ti for $56 (Ebay) 240GB Centon SSD 45$ (Craigslist) used case+CorsairCX500 combo $30 (Craigslist) 24-to-14pin adaptor $3 (Ebay) total $194 Now, the prebuild was a nice find, but the guy had dozens coming back from business leases, yes they're worth more but there are way more on the market than people want, so naturally low prices. Also, it took 2 weeks to get all parts, patience pays off.

This is a BTX format pc. It was supposed to be a new better standard for cooling around 2005-2009 but never took off. That’s why the motherboard is mounted on the left side of the case and the GPUs fan shroud faces upward

I find working computers similar to this in the recycling center dumpster all the time. Found a fx6840-03e with an I7 680, Dell i3847 with I5 4440, various graphics cards GTS 450 and HD5770 and countless 500 to 2Tb hard drives just in the last two weeks. People throw out computers like this because they think they are broken when in reality they need cleaned and reformatted. If you are short on cash and want a free computer, this is where to go.

NEVER buy a used or refurbished hard drive if you plan on storing non-reproducible data on it. I have had too many problems with used drives, and they're so finicky that problems are very common if they aren't really treated properly. The $20 you'd save by buying used isn't worth the possible headache of trying to recover data. You'll forget about that extra $20 in a month, but you never forget the pain of data recovery.

Points to anyone who knows the case form factor...it's BTX, an evolutionary dead end first pushed because Intel's CPU's starting with the Prescott Pentium 4 were too dang hot. And it is why you can't get a gaming card in, and have to open the case from the wrong side.

My Dell 790 (16gb, i7-2700) budget build with a 1080 I had laying around knows no bounds. Considering the 1080 as $0, It cost $190, including 16gb of matching ram and scrapping the 2x4gb dimms that came in it. Considering that I had an MSI Aero 1080 and had to mod it's cooling system, it came in around $250. Anybody trying to get into pc gaming needs to know what an old library/school computer can do. There is literally no better way to get into it. Throw a $35 chinese 750ti in it, set a couple things on low, and you're set on most modern titles. I had a 1050ti in it before I tossed in the modded 1080, and it killed R6S on high.

The i7-870 is still a good processor to have today. You can see benchmarks of it and it keeps up with modern games provided you have a decent GPU too. I'm using my trusty i5-760 OC'ed at 3.8Ghz till today without running into any problems at all and i play not so intensive games, but GTAV, Fortnite, Skyforge, LoL, CSGO, all run very fine on medium-high settings with an average of 60-100fps.

No native usb3, no native sata3, ram max to PC3-12800 1066MHz, only x4 PCIe 2.0, very dated platform tho. Suggest to go for Optiplex 990 instead - support for Ivy Bridge, 1600MHz RAM up to 16 gigs, 2 native sata 3 ports, usb 3.0 support, PCIe 2.0 X8, but can be found at very affordable price also. I've built a system based on 990 recently for my friend and it's getting the job done very well and rocks in gaming too. Had to mod the case heavily also, tho... cut out the drive bay and then place it vertically to accommodate the large GPU card, but it's all do-able if you have the right tools - and you get to keep the drive rails working. But Dell's proprietary connector system is a nightmare tho. Kudos for going so far with the modding in this build tho.

Manage to increase the Cinebench score to 590. Btw the power supply is Coolermaster 500W psu. Maybe other people can get better processor with cheaper price but in Malaysia, don't have that much choice especially with the bad currency rate
