Cal Newport has a book called How to Be a Straight A Student. In the book, he interviews students with straight A’s in college, and most of them don’t actually study a ton, they’re just really good at using their study time efficently.

Finally a video made specifically for me. Fed up with studying dumb idiotic pointless garbage low-yield powerpoints in med school and memorizing some useless trash on slide 21 of 65 so I can get "honors." No thanks. I'll do the bare minimum and get the 70% pass - even if that means not sleeping the night before my Friday exam every other week. Its already 6pm on a Saturday and I still have to watch 3 lectures I skipped on Thursday. Just thinking about it puts me in a bad mood. ..... Anyways I better go watch them.

When I was a wide eyed 18-year-old premed I didn't mind studying the way I am now. In fact, I thought biology and biochemistry were "so cool." I thought I was so smart and special. Now as a 24-year-old, here I am still sitting at home staring at my laptop memorizing dumb powerpoint lectures while the biggest morons from my high school days who barely tried academically are being paid decent money.

dr. jubbal im similar with you in that im good at critical thinking but suck at memorization, which makes medical school extremely difficult for me. im curious how you managed to do so well in med school if you also struggle with memorization

Just think of it like learning names, I guess? I mean, practice makes perfect. It's not like I remember every single thing I have memorized and things like these will normally require practicing and having you exposed to them for many times before you get the hang of it. Idk lol this is my experience

Hey! This may sound like a silly question, but I really hope for an answer! I adore working out. My body is leaner built so I’m not insanely gifted at lifting heavy. I was thinking about entering a bikini competition because I still work hard & want to be competitive with that hard work in some way. Would this have an effect on getting into med school? Looked down on? I only post modest photos to social media, but that would not be hard to find with a name search.

@dawnsclim4382

Well yeah, but my type of laziness is less effort per session, meaning I'll rather study half-way through. For example I may have a short break every time after studying a few pages. Or I'll simultaneously study while having something entertaining to watch for a short while, at anytime. If I need to study continuously in urgent circumstances, I'll do it. But I'll feel stressed and somewhat miserable while doing so.
