You just resolved my mustache frustration. I never thought of using a heated brush just on my mustache based on how I did not like the way the heated brush made the rest of my beard look. I have been using the heated brush just on my mustache for the past week and I no longer need to use a wax and it is styling the way I like it. It's these little things that change the experience on the beard journey that take frustration to enjoyment. Appreciate everything you do and the education & positivity you bring.

Lazy Walrus. I like that! I heard Eric Bandholz said he designed the comb with a small area for mustaches and the rest wider for beards. I didn't know the mustache area was finer than usual. My beard is the natural rainbow of beard colors, front is black, lower sides is brown, top sides is red, and mustache is blond. On a good day, I do a loose low handle bar, so it kind of displays over/into the beard. I think it highlights the different colors I have.

The Lazy Walrus Stache is my style too. As of a few months ago one side started settling differently than the other and below the lower lip a S pattern. The heated brush is preferred method. A slow run through and immediately use a teaser brush works for me. Followed by butter or balm depending on the day.

I wear my mustache pretty much like you describe. The handlebar and full walrus definitely don’t work for me, and I too can’t stand the feel of wax, or even balm in my mustache. The heated brush does seem like it would work, but I prefer a blow dryer to style my beard, and don’t feel like using them both. I just blow dry from the middle of the mustache, towards the side and use a boar bristle brush for a little tension and just kind of brush it down and to the side, blending it into the beard. Quick and easy, good enough for me, without the matted feel of the wax or balm. 👍

I didn't know it until now, but I do a lazy walrus too - minus any lip trimming. Mind you, I'm only 4-5 months in on the full beard so that (the trimming) may change. Every morning I blow dry each side of the moustache up and out (working from the middle) with my comb, and that's it. I've had a moustache for years and years (probably close to 25 years) but up until now it was just with a goatee - I have learned over that time that as long as my wife can see some of my top lip I can get away with not trimming it - so this style is great because you can still see the central part of the top lip.

Awesome video Dan!! I sort of do the same thing. My moustache isn’t as strong and huge as yours and some other guys. But right now I sort of dot the exact same thing as you. I comb it to the sides like you and blend it in with my beard. I’m not the biggest fan of handlebar on myself as my moustache to me is not the best for it. But we will see where it grows and if I can get it to thicken up and come in more over time. Awesome video again man. Thank you.

Lol I also find that as I smooth out the hairs, I find my self going "Whaaaa, Whaaa" It's like I can't make the smoothing motion with out the noise, like Dan's trimmer buzzzer noise... lol I've only tried a medium hold wax, and was having okay success with them, but wearing the mask the hot humid breath the wax won't hold. I have been using a product some use for the competitions Got 2 b glued, not the spray, but the tube. It holds the hair out of my mouth and either holds up to the mask, or if it softens, I can reshape once the mask is off by wetting it again. Once the mask isn't an all day affair, I look forward to trying a stronger wax, hopefully by then the 'stache will be of epic proportions... lol

I use to try and style a handlebar but with the advent of masks in public, the masks push the stache into a walrus. So after a couple of months, I gave up. I haven't trimmed my stache (except for a couple of over achievers, once.) in two years and currently am between a walrus and a "lazy walrus". Lazy at the beginning of the day, to walrus at the end. Perhaps it's a hold over but I use a medium hold wax, blow dyer and stache comb to style.

Does the heated comb dry out your beard/mustache? I have heated brush but I only use it once and awhile I find it dries out my beard . An I doing something wrong ?

Not at all for me. I would say find the heat that works for you but also how many passes you make

Hey Dan. I am trying a Chevron mustache only. No beard. Where do you recommend to cut around to shape the mustache properly? I have been growing it for a month only. Thank you Sir!!

Truly is just personal preference. I would say grow beyond your goal and then trim back to it

My moustache has a mind of its own.. one day it’ll curl, another it’ll lay flat.. I usually just go with what it wants to do 🤣.. but I do try and comb it to the sides

How often do you trim your moustache? Also, I am currently trying to go from a business beard to a medium one, and I’ve never had a big moustache. I’ve always felt like I had a pretty thin moustache area, not your Tom Selleck thick area, and I’m curious as to how thick yours is? (I’m talking about the actual surface area of skin with follicles, not the thickness of the moustache itself since everyone can agree you have a pretty thick moustache lol)

I trim probably once every 3 or 4 months, but I am not really sure. My mustache is decently thick

Help a brother out a make a mustache trimming video. I use barber scissors to trim the lip line, but the top under my nose is so puffy/bushy. If I use a trimmer, you can see when it was cut. Halp plz

Just let it grow. Sometimes I wax it. Sometimes I oil it and comb it with a Kent 8t1 (tiny little guy). I used to trim it, but wanted to see what happens. It is soft.

pros and cons of each?

Well the pros of the lazy walrus is that its easy, makes me look a bit more serious, cons of course is the food hole curtain that robs me of food and drink. Pros of the smiley stache ( handlebar lol) are i look more happy all the time lol cons are takes a bit of time and sometimes frustration to create it because its an obnoxious stache at times!
