I've circumvented the mustache trim by not trimming at all. The exception is the few overachievers that start poking out at the ends. My terminal mustache length has happened and I just wax and style what I have. I've become accustomed to the length and it no longer bugs me. Once again, the exception is the new cycle growing hairs that enviably find their way up into my nostrils for a short period, until length takes over again.

@@DanCBearded Yes. The best advice I keep hearing is to just not touch it and just sweep it to the side. I myself do that. The only issue I have is, when you look at it from the side/profile view, you can see the ends of the stache visibly poke out. I've concluded that this seems to be the case because I keep my sides shorter. If my sides were bushier, it would blend in and not be a problem. LOL

I use a nice little pair of Beard and Bates 1878 Black Label Shears to trim my stache around my upper lip only, but in a way that it still hangs over the lip. I leave the top and ends completely alone...but hey, that is my preference for my stache. Like you DanC, the Lazy Walrus is the look I go for. I do this sometimes. My mustache isn’t particularly thick and it kind of helps keep my longer hairs from standing out, making my mustache look more uniform. Hopefully I’ll have a thicker mustache like yours one day so I don’t feel the need to do this. In addition to a trimmer with a guard, I always trim along my lip line regardless. The Philips Multigrooms come with a narrow trimmer attachment which I never ever thought I’d use but I actually use it all the time! It’s really great for trimming in tight areas like under your mustache and around your ears. I think the Philips Multigroom 7000 may very well be better than the Brio Beardscape. I use my scissors much less than I used to although they definitely still have their place and I’m looking at buying a nicer pair.

Dan, Spot on with that video! No trimmers for this guy!! I have struggled in the past with my mustache trying to get that full and sweeping look. I think a full sweeping mustache compliments a full beard dramatically in my opinion. I only trim the ends. I don’t trim the bottom at all. I just sweep it to the sides using your HTD (heat + tension = direction)method. It gives me the option to style it standing alone with a bit of a handle bar or blend the ends into the beard. It definitely does matter. I no longer remember the source, but trimming against the grain evens length and removes bulk, while with the grain does not. Depends on what you are going for. I'm maintaining a medium-long stubble/short beard and use the 9mm guard clippers all over (including the mustache). End result looks very clean beard-wise for my particular profession
@DanCBearded3 жыл бұрын
The look is always preference, of course. However I disagree because I believe you can achieve whatever length or look you want, in a better way than using guards. You can still get that clean look with scissors, and I would argue even cleaner. When you use a guard it cuts all of the hairs uniformly. I do not think that is a good look for a mustache. I strongly feel the outside layer of the mustache (starting from the top) should be the longest and smoothest. Then the hairs get shorter underneath as you approach the lip. This gives a cohesive look. You can make the mustache shorter or less full, but do that by taking off bulk from the bottom, not from the “face” or outer layer of the mustache. I think people know this when they see it, even if it is subconsciously or if they don’t want to admit it.

Hey brotha. Can you give me some tips. I'm lost on things to do right now on my beard and mustache. Hit me up please if you get a chance 🤘

Hey man! What’s going on with the problem?

Morning Dan. Okay, I'll try to explain best way I can lol. Trying to fully grow my beard out. It's going ok I think haha. Anyways the problem is with my mustache. The left side seems to be doing what I want which is to grow down and blend in, my right side on the other hand kinda comes down and curves towards my ear and also seems Fuller than my left. Sooo, sould I just let it to continue to grow out, try to trim or cut to make them both look even? Idk what to do lol. Wish there was a way to send a pic to better explain.

Right now my plan is to never trim my mustache again... don't know how long it'll last... I'm hoping to make it until July, we'll see...

I just can't stand my mustache tickling and itching my nose.

Growing the top and body of the mustache longer will let those hairs sit down and will actually help with that so much!

What is this "trim your mustache" concept you refer to? 🤣
