I can now do the splits and its been only 20 days . I honestly thought it would take me months because i m the most inflexible person but so happy i can do it now though i still have to stretch for like 15 min before . I did the front split stretching every day and side split only every other day .

It's lessons like this that do make me wish I was in the same room as you, because it's different having a teacher correct things you can't see (because you're too busy looking at the ceiling, haha!). You still do a great job reminding us of hip placements, bum & abs engagement, etc. Thanks a lot, Alessia!

I found your channel last week when I was feeling that I needed to break my 1 year streak of being completely sedentary in Covid lockdown. I'm 42, and did some dancing when I was a child and a teen. I was a late starter, and completed RAD Grade 4 only when I was graduating high school! I learned good lines and strong technique, and I have been wanting to dance more. But when I try adult dance class, I have such trouble! My muscles cramp so easily. My calf muscles spasm when I do a couple of sous-sous. I have become so inflexible, I cannot even middle split 90 degrees without feeling it. RAD teaches you very specific steps, and I feel so lost when I go to a class and the teacher demonstrates steps I haven't learned before when going across the floor. Between being completely confused, plus the cramping, and being 25 pounds overweight, I am a mess in adult ballet class. My goal now is to follow your videos every day and get myself in shape to not be an embarrassment in class! I did the deep stretch and a center video, and the next day I did the 7 minute warm up + this front splits pt 1 video. That almost killed me, lol. BUT I cannot believe how good that felt, just two workouts! My legs felt a looseness that I didn't know I needed. I can feel it when I run upstairs in my house. I can't believe how much easier that felt!

Alessia, cannot express enough my gratitude for your amazing ballet workout videos. I am 40 years old and have been doing splits since i was 4 years old (different sport's training programs). Your videos are the best thing I have encountered not only for the beginner but advanced levels. During my weekly work out routine, I incorporate all of your spit training videos: beginner, intermediate and advanced. All three (four) videos can enrich advance level split performer.

I did the split some years ago, just once or twice in my life....and I'm talking about the side split (or front split, as you want to call it). I can tell that the exercises of relax that you show in your video work a lot breathing deep. Personally, I need to spend more time maybe, but I can confirm that it works. So thank you very much again, yesterday I wrote a comment on the other video (about the middle split). You're very nice and easy going. :)

A 45-minute walk is sufficient for warm-up? I've been wanting to do the split for a while, but I just can't (I'm 30cm away from the floor). Do you think that doing it for a month 5 times a week can notice a big difference ?. I know it varies from the body of each person, but I would appreciate your comment. By the way, I'm a new subscriber.
@lazydancertips7 жыл бұрын
Katrina Welcome to the Lazy Dancer Family! As warm up, if you are talking about power walk then yes. You need to be consistent in your work to achieve a full split. The reason why I insist to be warm is that you don't want to pull and injure any muscle. I can't tell you specifically how long it will take to achieve a split, it all depends on you :) Let me know how you get on with it, never give up! Ciao Alessia :)
@serbanescusimona7 жыл бұрын
Karinna Villarreal I would recommend to do this as often as you can, daily if possible, if you want to progress. Any day away is felt. It is difficult to say how fast. 30 cm is not very much, but not very little. It usually isn't achieved within a month, but it depends on your natural abilities and your age also. I do adult ballet and also salsa dancing and when doing stretching in class, didn't do all those preparatory exercises, just leg on the barre, get on the floor, push, push push. I did ballet for more than 6 months and still I'm not as flexible as I would want and I didn't notice any of the other girls getting hyper flexible by night. I improved a lot, but takes time. Good luck and don't forget to work out! It's the only way!

Hey Alessia. I'm a professional dancer and teacher (not ballet) and I do ballet 4 times/week. I always have a problem with putting my head forward, behind the knee, lay down with my stomach on a quad... if I put my head on knee its good... When I stand up I put my hands without any problem on the floor so it's not that bad but I really fight with that and tried a lot of different stretches but I don't know what is wrong and what to do... any tips for that?

Hi there! Thank you so much for your videos, I really appreciate all your hard effort. I have recently started ballet classes for the first time. Quick question; Being 45 years old with no flexibility whatsoever, I'm a tad scared to stretch my legs a little more every day I practise my splits. I think muscles after a certain, ahem, age , grow stiffer, so they don't cope well with stretching and may even tear. Do you think it 's possible for a person of such age, with no experience in dancing or even working out to achieve splits? I would really, really like to nail a decent grand jete someday. Many kisses grom Greece.

i just finished your mini barre routine and attempted your turn out video (man, i wish i would have had that one back when i was dancing - i have tight hips, so my turn out is awful). i will have to retry the turnout one on another day. i enjoyed the middle split video and have watched the other split video. i have pretty good splits, but as i have gotten older everything is getting tighter. i like how these stretches help release my hips and lower back. I look forward to trying the leg extensions video too.

I can't really keep my back straight (I'm just not flexible enough), but after this I felt like my body was soooo conditioned it was amazing! I have to say that considering my own flexibility (I can't even touch my ankles if standing with parallel feet) splits are nowhere in sight, but I really hope this can improve things in the long term :) Edit: 3 weeks of doing it every day/every other day I have gained a few inches! Although still unable to keep the balance
@annycrepyy32644 жыл бұрын
My back is like curve, could you get your back straigth?
@xtinaroma4 жыл бұрын
@@annycrepyy3264 Hi Anny, considering I stopped doing this as constantly as I was doing it before - and now I will perhaps do it every 2-3 weeks or so (while still working out and so doing stretches of some other kind pre and post work out), no, I didn't get my back straight (short answer), but I still got a lot more flexible - I wasn't able to touch my toes in the last stretches, now I can hug the foot with both hands, which for me is CRAZY! My back is definitely much closer to straight from where it was when I started, but bear in mind that if you're anywhere above your teenage years, it's gonna be hard to become flexible, it's big muscles that are involved and if like me, you've been not flexible all your life, I struggle to believe this can change in a few months :) I have in mind to start doing this more often. Let's see how it goes!

Alessia, hello! My knees usually hurt badly when in touch with the floor… Do you suggest maybe to use some knee protectors? Is the knees hurting in this position usual? Thanks! love to your cat :)
@lazydancertips8 жыл бұрын
+florencia Hi Florencia, it is normal they hurt when touching the floor. As mentioned before probably your hips flexibility still needs to be worked a little more for the position to feel slightly more comfortable. Ideally only the inside of your knee should touch the floor, not the top or the rotula . Always use kneepads of cushions to have something to save the knees for now ;) keep lengthening the inside thighs and hips, you'll get to down-frog soon;) Kissy Alessia ;)

Practice every day, and a small tip: stay in the stretch for about 30 sec (these are exercises for beginners, so are milder, but easier to approach each day) and try to smile through the pain and aim a little bit forward which every breath. Focus on the breath, not on the pain. If you are not flexible yet, it will hurt in the beginning, but bare in mind it will gradually go away. Take it step by step, first gain flexibility, then go for the splits. I am 29, for example, flexible because of all the dancing, ballet and yoga I did as a teen and as an adult, but still splits are a challenge to me because I have tightened hamstrings. Each body has pluses and minuses. Love to you and all the women out there who love their bodies!

i thought the beginner one was supposed to be easier, but i'm having the same problem i did with the intermediate one which is that i'm not physically strong enough to do some of the stretches. which is pretty discouraging

Unfortunately it doesn't take a day to achieve a split. Some people take up to six month to a year to achieve full range. It's also painful. As my teacher used to say : "no pain, no gain". Don't give up on the first time, achieving your goal takes determination and discipline. Come on you can do it. :)
