You're the reason I have properly started locks, my friend! And the reason I just shake my head when people try to interlock or get me to use wax or a crochet hook. Almost 4 years :)

Right on.... really diggin' your channel. How "I" started my dreadlocks ---> First off, for years I wanted them. Buuut was very impatient -- thought about having them crocheted, going to a salon to get 'em started, etc, etc, yadda, yadda, yadda, and all that jazz -- but didn't want to pay the money to get them done. After so many years, I just gave up on the idea. Until... until, I went on the road, lived in my van for 7 months and traveled all across the country (20 states) -- when "van-lifing" showers, hair up keep, etc aren't always available nor accessible when ya need it -- especially spending quite some time living National forests of the Pacific Northwest off grid. After so long, I just didn't brush my hair, didn't care, just went with it. And voila'... without any intention, nor trying I have the dreads I'd wanted for so many years.

I know this video is 5 yrs old but it's keeping me from "jumping!" I have 2 day old dreads that my wife and I started on my 48th birthday. We're inexperienced and the proof is on my head. However! Your videos help a great deal with patience. My dreads are very messy and some are very loose. They're are locks in them but only to the touch. Hopefully it wasn't a waste of time! I have to force myself to trust that they will form. Thanks for your videos!

I started my Dreadlocks (some of my friends call them "Deathlocks" for some reasons I don't know but it's quite funny) with the backcomb and crochet method. I realized over nearly one year now that crochet is not the nicest thing you can do to your hair and stop it step by step. Now the Dreads are going to change to that style I want them. Sometimes I separate them and some times I turn them on the root in the same direction to maintain them lazier. At some points they're starting to lock up themself. I hope this process continues, so I can lean back in probably one year and I have only to separate them. Of course it is interesting too, that my scalp is evolving with it. From the fresh dreadlocks with pampered scalp witch was starting over the time to get itchy to now, a more comfortable state where my scalp need only 2 - 3 times a week to get washed (remembering that dreads need more time to get dry). In all of this time I used to clean them with curd soap and only 2 times to maintain the itching with head and shoulders. The least I don't prefer because of the silicone and a lot of more ingredients that probably stop the developing of locked hair. Nowadays this shampoo is like a requisite and for my guests which naturally don't prefer my soap :) What I do to my scalp sometimes is a little massage, thats helping to handle the weight of the hair and somehow I believe that this could be a way to support my dreads in a natural way. So I got over the time lazier too with my Hair :D Thanks for all the inspiration Lazydreads!

Tried synthetic for a short time. Your videos have been the best and most informative I've seen and I appreciate you sharing your wisdom and experience. ♡

I started my dreadlocks back in 97 the same way and never had a problem with wax nor do I care whether people use wax or don’t use wax. That was the method back then I think too many people worry about the wrong things instead of going through the process.

THESE Big Dread companies that tell you,oh useing Dread wax, saltwater spray, dread peppa... It's rubbish, I use no product, just a Hypoallergenic Shampoo and I crotche for maintenance and that's it! It really test your patience and looking a little AWKWARD for the first year, but everybody's hair is different and their scalp may produce more dandruff, just find what works for you! I just started my dreads at the end of September 2017 and I'm glad I found your channel when I did. I started my hair with the back comb and locking gel method and I was happy with the way it came out. I didn't come out looking like Sideshow Bob from The Simpsons. But When I got my hair crocheted, it was such negative experience for me. She pulled so tight and it was so painful. I remember thinking that this was not how I imagined my dreadlock experience going. So I decided to do a little bit of research and it led me to you. Once you told me the best way to experience dreadlocks was to leave them be because your hair will naturally go to dreads, I thought that made so much sense. So I have, and you were right. I feel much better about my dreadlocks and watching them form. Thank you for providing your experience. One more thing. Where are you originally from? I'm from Southern California.

I am curious how your dreads are doing ? I see it's been a year since this comment and 5 weeks of no brushing then. So I'm wondering how it's going. I quit brushing in Dec. I did use a crochet on a few or should I say I TRIED to use a crochet on a few because the bumps were so bad. I was worried they would stay bumpy and flat. I had tons of flat ones. Now those flat ones are finally all gone. And I don't even need to rip the top as often any more. But the frizz is crazy. Especially the bottom cuz I had an undercut that has grown out about 5 in so that loose hair is awful.

@@notyourgma the friz is crazy indeed. im no longer ripping them apart as much. i get compliments on them. my only issue really is how few dreads i got and hair thinning up top has slowed the top dreading process but tiny ones are coming in pretty good. all in all im happy with them

@@heresjohnny4836 good to know. That is my biggest worry. The sizes of them. I have some tiny ones and I love them. I wish they were all tiny but I'm scared down the road if they'll not hold the weight of the hair. I mean 2 ,3 ,6 years from now. And I lost a few already from them turning congo. I mean they look better but now I have less. Just like you're saying. I wish I had more. But glad you like them. Giving me hope 💞💞

Started my dreadlock journey yesterday. I used twist and rip method, but having no friends in my new town I could not section properly... hopefully it's not too bad. I went to a salon to see how much it would cost to make them more thight and it was $8 a dread... I'm doing a partial look and only have 14... still very pricey. So I left with my silk headband to sleep and I'll just take a close look everyday to make sure they don't dread togeter.

So, I'm going for the neglect method. I just ripped apart a pretty knotted dreadlock into two. It's not tight AT ALL, but there was one VERY thin section that was kind of separate from all the rest. I pulled it out, and it was too thin to be a dreadlock on its own. I brushed it out, and it's created a portion of my hair that needs to go into the rest. I'm just wondering if that's okay, or if it's a thing I can expect to do in the future, as I'm about a month into my dreadlocks, and my regular hair looked pretty much like yours.

HELLLO THERE!❤️ I have a QUESTION:) My baby dreads are about a week old. So I know there is really not much I need to do with them or to them. Some of the bottom layer ones are unsectioned, they are created like a web of matted hair across the back of my head. I section them out everyday and keep them separated. I was just curious if I keep sectioning them every day will they eventually find their own root & space and slow down/stop with the webbing across the back of my head? Or since its early enough in their formation should I spend the hours combing them out and attempt to section them as best as I can? Thank you so much for all of your help!

Even though I don't have dreadlocks, I would recommend going to a dreadlock salon

Hey mate, I wanna get dreads but my hair is naturally oily and I’m worried the hairs will just slip instead of locking up. What can I do to change or help this..

Question! I am in the middle of the process of attaching dread extensions to my 3 day old dreads. The extensions are 100% human hair. As we all know, doing your own hair (especially attatching extensions) takes a while. What I need to know is, when can I wash my hair?? Since its been 3 days since I started the whole process (twist and rip method), but I'm not going to be done for a couple more days with the extension part of my hair (I have an infant- I can't do all day dread sessions on myself lol), will it be an issue if I wash them now? My bangs are getting greasy. If I can wash them, what do I use? Do I just wash my bangs or do I need to wash my dreads too so they don't slip? But the extensions are only a day old... Ugh! I need help! 😳

I got my dreads since a bit more than two years now... I wonder if it's a good idea to shorten them? What will happend to the tips?!? My dreads are about shoulder lenght, but I would like to keep them a bit under my jaw line... I would need to cut almost half the lengh of the dreads behind my head... Do you have a recommandation ?!? I trust your chanel a LOT ; )

Would short baby-dreads mature faster if you put small weights on the ends of them? Also - do beads help?

Neither would help, and would more likely have the opposite effect.

Question : Ive made synthetic dreadlock extensions (with kanekalon ) . My hair wasn't dreaded .I put a salt spray to add texture to my hair , I backcombed my hair a little and I croched (crocheted ?) the extensions into my hair. I've had them for about 5 weeks and they're doing great ( there is loose hair sticking out but I crochet it about once/twice a week) I wanna keep the extensions as long as I can. I want my roots to lock up by their own . They started a little already .Do you think it will work? thank you
