I can remember playing this when I was little asking my aunt questions about stuff that had happened 10 years earlier to pass the age test, trying to pick the right kind of condom so the cashier wouldn't humiliate me in front of the whole store and who can forget going raw dog and having your junk light off like a sparkler from your newly received STD. Really good game.

I loved Sierra's guide books where you had to use a magic marker to reveal the answers. I hated cheated but when I got beyond stuck I could read thru the questions and only bring out the one I needed. That kept me from finding out shit I didn't want to accidentally know.

Speaking of those Japanese adult games, have you ever considered a video on something like the NEC PC-88 or PC-98? There's a lot of fascinating history there regarding the origins of eroge and company's like Square and Enix as well, before they went mainstream.

Believe or not this was my very first game ever. Got an old DOS computer (back in mid-90s) with a ton of games, and this was the first one I tried. I didn't know more than a dozen words in English though so I don't think I ever made it very far. I totally remember Lefty's though. The "are you an adult" questions sure were tough when I had noooo idea what was being asked but eventually I memorized all the right answers.

Alright, you've convinced me. This actually looks like a lot of fun! Younger generations really have the wrong impression of LSL, if they even know of it at all. Knowing it leans heavily on the humor and not exclusively on the sleaze has turned me around.

That theme song..I was hearing that at WAY too young of an age haha. Amazing amazing game.

The way almost *anything* you decide to type is understood by the game helps with the immersion so much. "Lift mat", seriously - I never even thought of that! Walk to a stand, write "order taxi", "call cab" etc. and an actual cab comes and it turns into a third person perspective and asks "where to?" and you can go anywhere, like to a casino to play poker! But you need cash to pay of course, and need to write "pay driver" or whatever you want after the ride. The game-engine is so amazing.

This game was my introduction to adventure games, when I was 10 or so. Great game. The LSL 1-6 collection contains a book where Al Lowe talks about each game - sort of a director's commentary, and is great read for anyone who appreciate the series. That collection also include the Softporn text adventure LSL was based on, which was ported to PC for the release of the collection. The GOG version of the 1-6 collection contains everything that was in the original box, with all the books included as PDF. Highly recommendable. The newer installments (after 6) are a bit meh, but because they exist Larry is now officially the longest running adventure game series

Adult humor then: Humor that is aimed at adults because only mature adults have the life experience to get it. Adult humor now: Gratuitous references to sex and violence aimed at kids that think enjoying this kind of humor is a sign of maturity.

Family Guy is problematic, though. I've heard of people getting bullied for having the name Meg and people over all acting shitty because of the show. Some of the humour is also very offensive and the creator acts very poorly when faced with criticism of the offensive nature of his content.

This was a milestone in PC gaming, providing a more "mature" (pun intended) gaming experience than the home-computers of the era did and laying groundwork for future titles of similar genre.

Those "blank" hint books came with a special highlighter to reveal the answers. A few people who've taken the time to write them down somewhere online did their best to reproduce the effect with all kinds of text effects too.

My first LSL game was LSL 7: Love for Sail! I can't help but love that game. I like the others, including the original's (second) remake, but LSL7 really hit a number of marks that I never felt the other games matched. Of course, I especially loved the Easter eggs, but it was just a funny story and a really fun time experiencing it all without such a clunky interface like the previous games. I had the LSL collection as well, which included the first six (er, five) games, including the original and the VGA remake, along with the text-based Softporn. I enjoyed all of them, but I still can't say I enjoyed any of them as much as LSL7.

What do you think of Larry reloaded? I honestly believe that they totally turned it into the ultimate version of it. The humor was very good in the original, slightly improved in the 1991 remake, but my god! It was so utterly perfected in the 2013 reloaded one.

Hotshotter3000 I think my favorite version is the remake in the Kings Quest 5 engine, I can't remember the name. The art style is the perfect balance of super old school looking while still having lots of detail. The original Sierra games were far before my time, and while I still greatly appreciate them for what they started, I have a lot of trouble using a text parser.

I remember playing Larry with friends - when we were probably around 11 or 12. As English was not our native language, and most of the age-restriction questions were rather American culture-centric, we basically brute forced them, writing all wrong and right answers down in a large table until we could start the game fairly often. It was fairly ridiculous to us anyway that this was age restricted - there wasn't anything in the game we wouldn't be able to see on late-night TV in our country.

Fun fact. In the age restriction questions at the beginning of the game one of the wrong answers to the question "Who is O.J. Simpson?" is actually "A murderer". Another one worth mentioning is that the woman at the right side of the hot tub on the Softporn Adventure cover is no one other than Roberta Williams herself. If i recall correctly the other woman was a employee of Sierra while the waiter was an actual waiter from a bar near their offices.

I loved this game back in the day. I would play it on my totally outdated Kaypro computer with 286 8mhz chip and monochrome graphics, yet I still loved it. It was, however, more fun to play later in color with a system that didn't take 30 seconds to load between scenes. I got to the point where I could beat this game in an hour or two and even though I knew what to do, I just loved Larry's journey through Lost Wages. They just don't make em like this anymore, and seriously, they should!
