A correction to 07:15 - Mr. Paddock composed _the MIDI soundtrack_ for Prodeus that can be selected in-game as an alternative to Andrew Hulshult's OST www.jamespaddockmusic.com/2021/04/15/new-album-30in30-5-released-2/ Apologies to Andrew for the mix-up and I give him full permission to give me crap about it next time we hang out 😄

Can Duke Nukem II on Evercade have both Soundblaster and Adlib effects selected? The DOS version is the only game I've ever seen that can do that. It makes the sound effects "fatter and richer" than either AdLib or Soundblaster alone.

Thanks again for your invaluable feedback during development Clint, and for reviewing the games on your channel! It was a really fun project, and I hope some of the passion we put into Duke 1&2 shines through. It's still a bit surreal for me sometimes how my little hobby project has lead to working on an actual official Duke Nukem release!

Sincerely my pleasure, Niko! The passion was clear from day one, both with Rigel Engine and with all the little nitty gritty details and thought that went into these ports. I'm still happy that you were on the same page as me with how picky I was about PC speaker characteristics, haha. I hope you can continue to do similar work in the future! Perhaps even with some other shareware classics, the back catalog of Apogee and Epic is perfectly ripe, IMO.

@@Detective_LModern retro gaming, only physical cartridges with full colour manual and case. @@Detective_L Do you watch a lot of retro gaming content? They've all been talking about it for a couple of years now. I figured it would die off, since you can get an Odroid Go Ultra for $60 and put literally every game from pong to N64/PS1 on it. People like physical media and legal products, though, I guess!

@@Detective_L Another ARM console based on the RK3328 (Cortex-A53 CPU), e.g an SBC in a fancy shell that can run packaged Linux ports from proprietary cartridges. Depending on how you look at it, it can be considered as either a glorified Rock64 or an under-powered Switch. Although i admit that with ports like these and all the legal effort put into licensing everything, at least the devs have demonstrated a lot of spirit for the thing.

I can't get official C64 or atari or any other retro hardware far less buy official games for them. Evercade as far as I can see is the closest you can get in terms of legal and licensed. Heck evercade even does a better job then PS5 games physical packaging lol. You get an actual instruction manual with how the game functions and pictures in color. You know the thing we used to love when buying games back in the day? Not just some paper card with "heres the dual sense buttons mapping cheers".

Thanks so much for this, Clint, it really means a lot to see that you've enjoyed both your involvement in the project and the final result of it all. A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into these carts from all angles: development, emulation optimisation, art and design for the inlay and manual and my own part in it all -- the editorial content of both the manual and the on-cart descriptions. The Evercade continues to surprise me, I thought it was going to die after a shot time but it seems that they have their corner of the market which is awesome and with releases like this its becoming more and more interesting.

@@alicev1500 Both this and RedNukem are missing support for Zero Hour, which is underrated :C

Amazing project, thanks for your contribution, Clint. Having James Paddok on the soundtrack is reassuring. The results are fantastic.

It's refreshing to see the Duke Nukem Franchise not ether being whored out or poorly implemented post Gearbox. Also, Zero Hour is by far, my favourite Duke Nukem game, the best weapons, atmosphere, music, theme song, settings, levels, there's a terminator Duke and it has the most orgasmic WMD weapon in all of video games, the BMF Thunderstruck, you fire that, you are in for a ear-gasmic BOOM.

I loved playing all those old Apogee games back in the day. Duke Nukem, Commander Keen, Bio Menace, etc al. So much fun. Good times.

Yeah this game straight up sold me on the Evercade. Wouldn't have gotten one if it wasn't for this collection. And I have no regrets getting it cause... I'll take any Duke I can get at this point.

Thanks for making entertaining content that makes me nostalgic for a series I never even played. Also enjoyed seeing Noiselund 'watched' in the recommended feed.

Very nice, I've been curious about the Evercade for a while so if I decide to get it I'd consider picking up this collection. I've played the 1st game when I was little and I definitely played That Time to Kill demo way more than I should!

This looks super cool. It really makes me want an Evercade now, and the games I really wanted to play are the two original DOS games of Duke Nukem.

Duke 1 & 2 were just solid. I feel 2 definitely holds up well enough, even by todays standards.

This is the perfect kind of update, I was looking at it wondering "ehh what's new?" until you did the classic flip. I guess my brain was doing a lot of heavy lifting for the original DOS version :)

I was working on reverse engineering DN1 recently, so all I can say is that Niko did a really good job with it. DN1, internally, is kinda a mess, and it can't have been easy to figure out exactly how everything worked and reimplement it in a completely different engine! The best part, in my silly opinion? The new version fixes a bug the game has had with mirrors since it came out, where they sometimes flash white! FINALLY, after 32 years, it FINALLY WORKS CORRECTLY!

I'd never heard of the Evercade until now. As someone who misses the era of physical games actually containing games, let alone manuals, i'm delighted to see things like this get exclusive releases.
