LBC: Sunak's net zero U-turn is a 'disastrous, pussy-footing move'

Following Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's sudden announcement about watering down various green policies in a "new approach to net zero" by 2050, business leader, philanthropist and founder of Phones 4U John Caudwell told LBC's Andrew Marr he was "extremely disappointed" by the U-turn.
Sunak's announcements included a five-year delay to 2035 on banning sales of new petrol and diesel cars.
Caudwell said it was a "massive misjudgment", both environmentally and economically, and a "disastrous, pussy-footing move" that showed a lack of foresight and smacked of petty, vote-grabbing party politics.
"We’re losing a massive opportunity by going backwards and taking the foot off the gas - or actually putting the foot back on the gas in terms of burning fossil fuels," said Caudwell. "It’s utterly wrong."

2030 was a chance to show what we could do outside the EU. We would have had companies rushing to set up here. For once we could really have been world beating. But it seems Sunak bottled it. He’s used to earning his money working in established financial institutions or marrying into money, as opposed to being truly entrepreneurial. The skill of building a business from nothing successfully requires rare talent, what they used to call Chutzpah, which Sunak obviously lacks. Opportunity squandered.

Totally agree John. Over the last couple of years, been learning avidly about renewable energy and sustainability, also looking into which EV to purchase (PoleStar 2). I've spent the last couple of days, as the PMs decision didn’t sit right with me, but couldn't put my finger on it. Suddenly realised it was partly the original 2030 target that inspired me, this is a piss-take, its not the motorist he's kissing up to, some lobbying has gone on somewhere, or keeping fossil fuel cars on the road longer also plays into Khan's favour to guarantee & extend the ULEZ income for at least another 5 years, its ludicrous... ok, when these car die out fair enough, but another 5 years, WHY? 🤷🏽‍♂️🤯. The does contribute to a very small amount of emissions worldwide, but let's make it less sooner & try to eliminate such crazy scheme like the ULEZ sooner, for the positive outcome. As an ex-tory myself, also disappointed in the way things are being run, hardly hear of the PM, let alone the invisible lefties, the UK is totally open to unhealthy bias of external factors and easy manipulated ideas, just so the old establishment can line their fruitful pockets whilst keeping the ever growing knowledge of the consumer, to the real reality of things, dangling longer and longer. Unfortunately the wool can only be pulled so far before those in power run out of ideas. Unfortunately I see it all right now...
