Following Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's sudden announcement about watering down various green policies in a "new approach to net zero" by 2050, business leader, philanthropist and founder of Phones 4U John Caudwell told LBC's Andrew Marr he was "extremely disappointed" by the U-turn.
Sunak's announcements included a five-year delay to 2035 on banning sales of new petrol and diesel cars.
Caudwell said it was a "massive misjudgment", both environmentally and economically, and a "disastrous, pussy-footing move" that showed a lack of foresight and smacked of petty, vote-grabbing party politics.
"We’re losing a massive opportunity by going backwards and taking the foot off the gas - or actually putting the foot back on the gas in terms of burning fossil fuels," said Caudwell. "It’s utterly wrong."
