Damn. I just gained a whole new level of respect for both Lady Bird and Lyndon. She wanted to do the world to help Jenkins, and Lyndon was trying his best to explain why they couldn't do it in the political climate, without berating Walter. Wow, just... wow.

The incident with Walter Jenkins was something out of an ancient time for gay and lesbian Americans, and it was tragic what happened under the circumstances. While President Johnson's political judgment in this conversation was appropriate for the time, the First Lady's moral instinct and compassion was fierce and correct.

JFK always liked Lady Bird, contrasted by his indifference to LBJ. Clearly LBJ is concerned about his election, which was not hurt by this incident. Jenkins returned to Austin and spent the rest of his life as a CPA, dying at the age of 67 from a stroke.

Well after 64 Lyndon never ran again. He could've ran in 68 but declined because Richard Nixon was so popular, but he could've given a way better election than McGovern did.

If you've ever read Robert Caro's biographies of LBJ then you know how terribly LBJ treated Lady Bird. He ordered her around like a dog to the point it made guests around him uncomfortable. That's in addition to all the infidelity.

@@teresalinton5898 Trump again. You lot cannot leave them alone. Obsessed with him and his family. They call it TDS. Malania did quite a lot in four years, but fake news never acknowledged her great work with children especially children with special needs. Those were different times back then. But Malania did council her husband and then President through many problems he faced. He calls her his rock. And in years to come you may hear phone calls between them, and I bet they are very loving conversations. They both have a lot of respect for one another. Not like Jill only thinking of the money when her husband has lost all sense, and given the country to the highest bidder.,
