Recently I did a video about the MPG's of the 80, 100 and 200 series,
as can be seen here:
• What MPG can you expec...
Now you'd think the new 2024 Land Cruiser would perform sell as they say 20mpg..
But in the real world that is not the case.
The LC250 is not a prius, the engine runs all the time for rolling power, the 4 cylinder is merely assisted by the battery making it hybrid. Most are reporting high teens, however once you go bigger wheels and some overland gear you will drop down to about 13mpgs.
If I am getting poor mileage like that, you might as well go for a GX550.
SO DON'T buy a 250 thinking you will save on fuel.. you won't.
Or better yet, get a V8 Land Cruiser or LX570 while you can... 10-14mpg depending how you build it, but a V8 will wayyy outlast a 4 cylinder with battery.
Ask yourself, how much to replace the battery?

I just purchased the LC250 1958 edition. Bone stock I get minimum 19 mpg. Best I've got is 23.8 mpg. I noticed if I drive it in eco mode, the mpgs are worse. My guess is you have to slam the gas more often in eco mode to get it going, so its counter productive. But in regular mode I average 20mpg

I'm calling bullshit on your little video here homie. I had a six cylinder FJ cruiser from around 2010 that was a rolling brick with a flat windshield and zero aero and still averaged over 20 mpg in New York fucking city. No way in hell that brand new 4 cyl with all that new tech is getting 13 mpg.

Your FJ Cruiser does get great fuel economy. So calling truth on you.But it aint no Land Cruiser, and I.have spoken to a couple LC250 owners that have outfitted them (35s, sliders, roof rack, tent) and they confirm this. Tell you what, go build a LC250 and see for yourself. Bur domt come back saying : HA! I did everything you mentioned and got 14MPG! Ha see.. not 13!

It's not exactly B.S, just pay attention to the video a little more, the 20mpg he's talking about is stock figures that Toyota claims but he does mention a few times but in the videos and in the comment replies that this is 13mpg MODIFIED, so with all of the heavy and aerodynamics ruining modifications added to the vehicle.

You reassure me of my decision to stick with the 200-series. I had an '08 LX and have recently replaced it with a '15 LX. Starting my first overland build on it. Sliders from TKO (local to me) going on next month along with some steel skids, then Ruggedbound roof rack and drawer system going on next spring. Wish I knew how to reach you for the future ruggedbound purchases, though 🙂

I’ve heard conflicting results on this. A stock one that lives in the Rockies got 22 hwy average w mountain passes. Obviously when you add weight and huge tires, any truck mileage will suffer. I get about 11-12 in my 06 LX, 14-15 hwy.

In my LX450 (on 33s) , I get 10mpg, but not on gasoline - on LPG. In Poland, LPG costs 50% of the price of gasoline. If I were to buy a 250, it would only be in diesel (in Europe, we don't really have any other choice).

What did you need to do to get it to run on LPG? What engine are you running?
@floofy117
@floofy117 3 ай бұрын
@@Austin152-S it's probably stock. Manufacturers offer far more fuel options globally than they do for the NA market, you can find cars that run on LPG, diesel, ethanol or Petrol/Gasoline all stock from the factory. For some reason it's just the NA market that's heavily stuck on gasoline for passenger cars with a few diesels for the pickups
@MiroslawKapalka
@MiroslawKapalka 3 ай бұрын
@@Austin152-S Stock engine - the same one installed in the FZJ80, which is the 1FZ-FE. The cost of the LPG installation, including a 92-liter (~24-gallon) tank, was $1200. It operates maintenance-free. The car always starts on gasoline, and after warming up, it automatically switches to LPG. If the entire LPG tank is used up, it seamlessly switches back to gasoline, with no noticeable effect for the driver. I treat LPG as an additional tank that extends my range but at about half the cost of refueling. In Europe, 80% of countries offer the option to refuel with LPG. As for LPG installations in diesel engines - I’ve heard it’s possible, but I don’t know anyone who has that setup.

That’s not accurate on the LC250. Mine gets 24MPG bone stock. That one has 35s and extra weight. They are not as efficient as you would think but they are certainly over +20MPG on a bone stock platform.
@CruisingTheLand
@CruisingTheLand 3 ай бұрын
yes, but with a lift and bigger tires, its eats into that MPG very fast. Thats why a 4cyl works on a Prado, but would never work on a 200 series Land Cruiser
@floofy117
@floofy117 3 ай бұрын
@@CruisingTheLandanother thing to note is that the previous Prado came in essentially 2 different configurations (aside from the 2-door SWB and normal 4-door options). There was a prado that looked like the prev gen GX460 where the spare tyre was located underneath and the more popular version which had the spare tyre mounted on the rear door, (which is also why that rear door on the GX swings out to the side instead of up like the LX/200 series). The point of this is that depending on the version chosen there would be 2 different fuel tank options, if you chose the one with the spare mounted underneath then you'd get a smaller fuel tank which is about the size of what the LC250 (around 23 gallons), currently has, but if you chose the Prado with the spare mounted on the rear door then it freed up space for the factory to increase fuel capacity so there was a total of 150 liters (around 36 gallons) bone stock from the factory. The range it offered was phenomenal whether stock or modded regardless of whether the V6 petrol or the 2.8 4cyl diesel was used. If you ever get the chance, perhaps visit south africa or Australia, there's some adventure companies that offer different LC models (that the US doesn't get) to rent for trips like if you want to go on a safari or just camping in the bush. Get a taste of some of the more modern forbidden fruit. I'm sure you'll enjoy it and it would make for some great content.

my 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a diesel V6 engne with a 5 speed trans with 33 inch ST Maxx tires with a 3 inch lift gets 22+ mpg running about 75 mpg. Diesel is always the answer for fuel economy and best driving experience. The new LC with a 4 cylinder and a 8 speed trans would be geting 25+ mpg.

Also depending on situation yes my LC250 runs on the hybrid system. Also I have 20k miles on my LC and already and overall using 93 octane I am getting right about 24 mpg.
