As promised I took the budget Sylaeto Bivvy out for a test on a solo wild camp.
Bivvy camping is new to me and with ground dwelling not being my favourite past time it surprised me how much I enjoyed it.
Bivvy camping in the rain can be very limiting due to the limited space. I thought this bivi would fail when it came to vondensation but it performed much better than expected.

My experience is with the previous version of the OR Helium Bivy. Here in the States I was able to purchase it on sale for about $120 at that time. Let me tell you that it is what the rviews say....an award winner for sure. Although condensation is always an issue with any bivy/tent, it is less so in the Helium vs this Sylaeto, and that is probaby because of the Pertex fabric in the Helium. Years ago OR made a Gore-tex bivy which was the BEST in reducing condensation in wet weather but it weighs twice what the Helium does. The Helium comes in at right about 1 lb (half a kilo or so). I section-hiked over 500 miles on the AT, the most famous thru-hiked trail here in the States, doing 3 - 4 day hikes and can tell you that if you are ok being confined and will be using this only to get in and go to sleep after a full day of hiking, then this is the real deal. Get a small quick-dry towel and in the morning before you pack it up, wipe the small amount of condensation and you are good to go. It also fits in the shelters since the footprint is only slightly wider than a sleeping pad.

All tents condensates, having a bag to cover the sleeping bag is the best option. I have always used two bags. A gortex bag would need a tarp. Ithe footprint and stealth are its benefits. I have used several over the years (oex salamander has been the best) very waterproof and sleeping with the mesh up and door open has had the best effect. I always use a synfectic sleeping bag on multi days and use a less season bag as having a bag linner and smaller space pushes the temperature rating up.. happy days..

The most talked about HOOP on KZbin. Don't know if you're aware, but you can get a 600 ml WILDO folding cup - for me they beat the 200 ml version hands down. In my experience, first thing to fail on those cheap tunnel tents are the poles followed by the zips, but still worth an outing when you compare them to the price of a Dutch Army Hooped Bivi for example.

Nice one Lee. I was wondering... was your sleeping bag damp at all? Bivvy within a bivvy might make a difference? I've only bivvied once, it was in an Alpkit bivvy and I had my head out of it most the night but my body heat alone caused some condensation. some I'm thinking that maybe why you didn't get that much in the hooped bivvy? 😖 brambles! That’s why you need a machete/ billhook for bushcrafting in the UK. Badgers are full of bovine tuberculosis, best avoided on all fronts mate. If you create a small, ground level tunnel in a patch of summer bracken it creates a very stealthy location for the bivvy / hooped bivvy 🇬🇧⚔️😜.
