One Pixel at a Time so how is this thing going now? How is this not a trend? Sell it!! Haha
@Tobi-xj8xw6 жыл бұрын
the reason why it's best to use lower resolution is because the pixels are bigger and give more light so with a suboptimal backdrop the picture is more clear
@obiwac6 жыл бұрын
What do you mean by "give more light"?
@Tobi-xj8xw6 жыл бұрын
meant more light per pixel
@obiwac6 жыл бұрын
I got that, but why would each pixel give off more light if the screen has a lower resolution?
@Tobi-xj8xw6 жыл бұрын
@@obiwac doesn't give more light but on higher resolution it's spread across more pixels so they don't have to be as bright
@Tobi-xj8xw6 жыл бұрын
The screen doesn't give more light
@Passthemojo7 жыл бұрын
The reason pixel density is important is for the transparency of it. So the more pixels per inch (PPI) the more tightly together they are, even though the transistors and what not are very very small put enough of them close together and you block light passing through. So basically if you have 2 screen of equal size, say 1080p and 4k, the 1080p would be more transparent and hence let you see the insides of the pc better, which is the effect you want.

Great work, saw this on Reddit, one suggestion on the fabrication process of this, silicone calk, instead of electrical tape. As it’s non conductive and should hold very well, especially against heat. You’d want to sand to bare metal to get good adhesion and possibly use a good epoxy first and then calk over the edges of the screen and then use fabric electrical tape to cover any other components. Very seriously going to work on this this weekend as I have several old monitors. Thanks for the inspiration!

@ArchDuckling7 жыл бұрын
Tobias Weiß the Pi runs Linux, and supports SSH and virtual desktop via OpenVNC on its "stock" OS. Should be relatively easy to get in there, but for this specific project you'd need the pi3 for built in wifi, or a wifi adapter, because the older models don't have wireless integrated in them.

The white internals definitely make for a better result, I think you made the right choice switching cases and painting the internals white. As far as pixel density, the original Snowblind case uses a 1280 x 1024 resolution, but the effect can still be performed with a HD display. I have a great idea for the both of you. Why not make this a business. Think about it. You create custom cases similar to this, but at the same time add in ordered parts for people pcs. This way users can have custom gaming pcs, but with the parts they want and with the cases they want. You'll make a ton of money doing this. Being not everyone wants to spend 2,900 bucks on a gaming pc when 900 bucks goes into just the case alone by Snowblind. It's not a great investment. More like a ripoff. Max people would spend 400 more but no damn 900 bucks for what they are pitching with the components that are offered in it.

As I have seen some things done with this method and acrylic before that made the acrylic itself glow. I personally have a cougar qbx and might just do a solid LCD instead of a transparent one

@OnePixelataTime7 жыл бұрын
tsally It was the control board that came with the monitor. The board I had gave some description as to what each wire did. So it was very straightforward as to which wires I had to use. As to how I attached them to a 4 pin molex, I purchased a 4 pin Molex Extension(Y Splitter cable if you don't have an available 4 Pin Molex) cable cut and striped the needed wires based on the voltage in needed (theres a diagram in the video) and put them together. I also unplugged a few things in my PC just to briefly power it on to see if the LCD was receiving power.

@OnePixelataTime5 жыл бұрын
Sure, if you can find a way to keep the LCD screen in place, I don't see why not; the closer the better. Some screens have different viewing angle degrees horizontally and vertically, rotating your screen90 degrees could or could not reduce the viewing angle, this varies by monitor. downloads.monoprice.com/files/images/ViewingAngle.jpg All this means is, if your monitor doesn't have a large viewing angle, seeing it from too far off the side won't look as good as seeing it directly.

Excuse my ignorance, but what did you use other than the board from the monitor? What did you keep and what did you get rid of? Is it just that this specific lcd is transparent without the backing?
@OnePixelataTime7 жыл бұрын
Jesse King I don't recall exactly what I removed, all I remember tossing was the board to which the power outlet connected to. I kept everything else which would include the board to which the LCD connects(this is hidden under the electrical tape and is right next to the LCD Panel, it's very obvious you need this part as it supplies the LCD the needed information regarding what it needs to display, it connects to it with wide wires that look like ribbons), the board that has the video output connection (in this case a vga output, shown at 5:40) and the board with the on and off switch which I'm not entirely sure I need to keep, but I did and it works with the current set up. All LCD panel to my understanding are transparent, they have a white background behind them(kond of like how a projector needs a white background to look good, usually plastic and light up with leds, it's not attached to it making it easy to remove) and that's how they work. The white you see on an LCD monitor is actually the white plastic behind the LCD monitor(if that makes sense) which is why I put the white parts in my PC, to give it that background.

@@justinace974 Yes, I kept the controller board and the LCD panel in the monitor. Have you seen this video? kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGabdGRvpdyLsNE I tried to cover most of that in. As for the other thing you're asking, I mean yes, the LCD is transparent, that's normal, but I have no clue what you mean by reflective.

Can I do it with tempered glass?

So... I have a question. I heard that if you have an USB Monitor, it helps a ton because you can plug it in and you have power + videosignal. Now, is that only the case for USB 3.0 monitors? I saw a dell with 2 USB 2.0 plugs, do you know if that would work too? I don't wanna solder :I
@OnePixelataTime5 жыл бұрын
As you probably know, USB monitors pull their power from a usb port. If the monitor you own isn't a USB monitor, then the usb ports it has build it won't power it as that isn't their purpose. I didn't solder my monitor in, I used Twist-on wire connectors to connect everything, the only soldering I did was with the LED lights. Does this help?
@Nemain_5 жыл бұрын
@@OnePixelataTime Thank you so much! I didn't know about these twist-on thingies, this makes it so much easier! The connection to get it to work is just trial and error, right?
@OnePixelataTime5 жыл бұрын
@@Nemain_ That's what worked in my case, trial and error, just be careful; looking at the circuit board could help, sometimes the wire labels give directions as to what powers what.

Really great looking mod. I want to attempt this some point but the next rebuild im doing is a lot of black. Wonder if I can offset with some hella bright lights inside xD.
@OnePixelataTime6 жыл бұрын
It'll be very difficult, because a bright black is still black.

There are videos of a pc in Japan with a holographic dancing character. Could you do this with this side panel?
@OnePixelataTime6 жыл бұрын
Yes, if you position the video correctly, you can, I tried it with my case and was successful. I have a custom case I'm mind that would focus on this, but that a project that is just a 3D model for now.

hi do you know any other software to find the dimensions of the monitor?
@OnePixelataTime6 жыл бұрын
For Android? Not that I'm aware of. The other apps that I tried did not include a reference measurement, meaning I have to manually input each distance vs having a length the app can reference.

james varga As in the LCD came damaged? Usually that's due to a damaged panel by how you're describing it. I'd contact them for sure.

Really cool! Thanks for showing us. Always wanted to try this, maybe now I will! If I could give a suggestion, it would be to show more of the process. I would have liked to see you taking apart and reconfiguring the monitor, seeing how you decided to put which parts where inside the case, etc. Super cool, you definitely just got a sub from me!
@OnePixelataTime7 жыл бұрын
I wish I would have recorded me taking the monitor apart, I never planned on making this video, so it didn't cross my mind at all. However there are plenty of videos on youtube that show this process, deciding with components to keep wasn't too hard, the monitor I opened was pretty simple, guessing which cables gave the LCD power and which ones didn't was the hardest part in my opinion. If you decided to do a mod similar to the one I did, feel free to message me on reddit, I'll help out where I can.

I've got a couple questions my man. I cannot figure this pin-out out. I've got almost the exact same setup, but with a w1707. So far it's been the exact same thing. I've got two +5v connections on the internal power supply of the monitor, three grounds, on/off, and dim. How exactly do I wire these to the molex?
@OnePixelataTime6 жыл бұрын
I used a 4 pin molex extender(one side has a female end, the other male, this way you tend to have more options as to which type of connection you use) cut it and connected the wires that give the LCD(its board mainly) power. Just be sure to connect them correctly, don't accidentally connect it to the 12v if you're trying to connect it to the 5v, because it will fry it if you do.

@OnePixelataTime6 жыл бұрын
I mean yes it could, but its black acrylic, the image will be much more dimmed compared to a clear acrylic, so it all comes down to what you really want as the end design and don't mind having that result.

How is the lcd power connected to the power source of the pc?
@OnePixelataTime6 жыл бұрын
The LCD is powered through its board (this is the board that came with it in the monitor) and that board is connected to a 4 pin molex with is receiving power from the PSU.
@geraldleesesideburnsg33826 жыл бұрын
do you know how many watts the monitor uses and how much overhead would be needed on the psu?
@ResveZ2136 жыл бұрын
Since a maximum wattage on a molex is 132 watts on 12 Volt devices, OR, 55 watts for the 5 Volt devices I would say your overhead should be at least 175-200w if your psu supports that trough a single molex.

Did you remove the plastic window built into the side panel? Would it be safer to leave the film on the lcd if i were to remove the plastic window? im doing this mod to my nzxt h440 but my window is all scratched up.
@OnePixelataTime6 жыл бұрын
The LCD is attached to the plastic window it comes with, the LCD panel itself if very fragile, if you were to bump it by accident without any support (in my case the plastic window) it could crack the LCD. Think of the LCD as a very thin piece of glass is the best way I could describe it (or crystal?). The layer I suggest you remove doesn't really add any support (if any, its very little), the reason I suggest removing it is make it easier to see through the LCD better, but you can test it to see how it compares with or without it(although you'll need a second screen for that). As for your scratched screen, you could try replacing it with a sheet of acrylic, it'll require some work, but its possible(unless you can get NZXT to send you a new one/pay for one. Good Luck

i swapped my window out and got everything almost ready, but was wondering did u use both 5v cables and both grounds from the monitor power wires or just 1 of the 5v and 1 of the ground cables? or two 4 pin molex connectors?

I don't. I would suggest giving /r/hardwareswap a look if you're looking for a good deal on a used GPU as they go for less vs a brand new one. My first one was used and it lasted me a good while before I upgraded.
