The pacific theatre is a fascinating and quite frankly under studied part of WWII. This was absolutely an amazing production I was seriously getting The Pacific vibes from watching this(The HBO series).

Great. Just one thing, the landing crafts seems to be copied from the American LCVP model. The Japanese used landing craft manufactured by Daihatsu (Daihatsu-class or 14 m landing craft ) of a different look. Look like armored junk sheep without sails.

Minor correction: Rabaul is not the name of the island. The island is named New Britain, Rabaul was an administrative division on the island and the name of the major Japanese base there.

Great video. The story of Lark Force and Gull Force is not done justice by omitting the torturous fate the Australian captives were subject to. The sadistic beheading party at the hands of the Japanese. Swords swung until they were bent and dull taking multiple swings to sever the neck of the prisoners one by one as they awaited their execution. Truly terrifying. Those poor men would have fought to the death if they knew what was waiting for them as prisoners.

For being such a well trained and dedicated army the Japanese by far had the worst MGs of any army during WW2, imagine how many more marines would hav been killed on islands like Iwo Jima and Okinawa if they had a half decent MG for their hidden bunkers and ambush emplacements
