I do not speak for the Church, but am an active member. A similar problem occured here in Sacramento when the proposed temple was opposed by people that thought the lights would be a detraction. Meetings were held and the men in the CHurch who had some resonsibility in the construction listend to what was said and waited for a decission from the loca government. It was decided that the lights should be turned off at 11:00 pm, that wea acceptable and the building was approved. AS a side note, about 500 yards from the temple is the Folsum automall and their many lights are on all night and I have heard nothing of any compaints for that. I hope the temple is approved, they are all beautiful and the grounds are also beautiful and anyone can go to them, walk around the gronds and enjoy the peacful atmosphere that is there. Have a great day.

The Lord doesn’t like any contentions? So, Jesus Christ should not have said anything because it would create contentions among the Pharisees and the Sadducees. Contention is dispelled when people admit correct information. There is no city ordinance that is being violated. Las Vegas has thousands of buildings that are brightly lit. This is private club that does religious acts, not a religious building. It cannot claim 'religious' exemption on height. All religious Cathedrals & Temples buildings are bequeathed priveleges by the citizenry such as tax exemptions because they are to serve ALL the public. Public access is mandetory and expected, regardless if they are members or not. The temple must be open to everyone who want to enter or walk the grounds. Just be respectful such as being quiet, not disurbing the grounds or religious activity. Donations or tithing are not mandetory. But the LDS church don't allow this. If you enter the grounds, they will tell you to leave or have you escorted off by law enforecment. As comparison, Catholic Cathedrals and churches will allow anyone to enter when the doors are open or you have need. It doesn't matter is you are a member or not. Donation or tithing if optional. You just want to visit or seek refuge to rest, or meditation in the nave or sanctuary, you may enter. Just be respectful and don't disturb any sacraments like mass, baptism, confession or funerals (those are open anyways). Majority of religions around the worl dopen thei doors to visitors regardless. LDS downs not. This 'temple' is private club building and should not be built as is. The need to respect the ordinances. If not, then they should pay taxes as they are a private club. They should also offer to pay the difference for the now higher taxes associated with thei claimed increased property values all the non member local residences they are now negatively affecting with cost. They could have actually folowed the teaching of Jesus Christ and used those billions of dollars for housing for the poor, free medical care and healthy food for those who have little, or aid the Native American Indians who are now returning in their right-of-return to reclaim their land as the Great Sprit Prophets prophesized.
