Unfortunately, I couldn’t come across any recordings of the original song. Apparently, its tune had become so popular in Europe that the Germans had their own adaption of it (“Wer Jagen will muß früh aufstehn”), circa mid-1700s. In a similar vein to the Vendean song, the Germans reused the melody for a patriotic song written in 1814, “Wenn alle untreu werden”, dedicated to the Holy Roman Empire and the resistance against Napoleon.
