One , particular individual who would be almost overwhelmed by this music is none other than Herr Telemann himself. More than enthusiastic itself about French music, it requires only a little imagination to envisage his delight on hearing this composition and other accompanying works.

I'm in awe of this richly satisfying music, PROPER music, performed by proper musicians and not the "popular" jangling rebellious discordant noise made by over-paid egotists, unable to exist without constant adulation from adoring fanatics. My utmost respect for the musicians for their skill, commitment time-wise and enthusiasm. Respect also for the managers, agents, props boys, wardrobe keepers, fixer-uppers, sparkies, recording engineers and sponsors - the largely unseen and unsung crew behind the scenes. To use a word that has been assaulted into loss of its real meaning - amazing!

I feel a bit delirious while listening to this. If it's not too bold or remiss to say... Lully was not merely the incidental composer of an incidental king. If "The Sun King" is an archetypical personality of the "artist-as-ruler" or "artist-king"... then Lully was the archetypical personality of "His Prophet," his interpreter. EDIT: With novice enthusiasm, I assumed Lully had a major hand in this piece... but it seems this was more a collaborative effort between several composers.

This really does sound like Lully though, if you've heard enough work Lully, you'd be able to recognize his style immediately
@jean-marcliautaud6306
@jean-marcliautaud6306 4 жыл бұрын
I appreciate you liked this huge piece of music but Lully had nothing to do with this. "Le concert royal de la nuit" was performed in 1653 and Lully's first opera, "Cadmus & Hermione" in 1673, exactly 20 years later. When "Le concert" was created, Louis XIV and Lully were both very young. In a way, you can say that Lully was a heir of the style of music "Le concert" represents. Sébastien Daucé has found a book containing the melody of some of the pieces that were performed on that occasion (they were rumored lost) and he harmonized them the way they were supposed to sound like at that time. Then he added some musical pieces that were performed for the marriage of Louis XIV (all the pieces in italian, extracts from Cavalli's "Ercole amante"). And the result is there. Stunning "mid seventienth century music" rediscovered.

Some of the vocal 'airs' are by Cambefort (amongst others) but sadly, all of the instrumental music from the manuscript of 'Ballet de la Nuit' is anonymous. Unfortunately it is also copied in incomplete form, so here, Sebastien Daucé reconstructed the middle parts, and sometimes the bass as well. At 20 years old, Lully was involved in the original production and danced alongside the King (which is supposedly how he got his big break).

I think that a lot of people would welcome if Avrotros would give time of beginning of every title. For me it is almost impossible to distinguish what we are listening to. Also I am quite surprised that Jean Baptiste is not mentioned in the programme, a lot of numbers sound very similar to his style - for example the first one is extremely close to the piece I know as a part of Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme - Le Marche de Turcs ( or similar name 🙋🙂 )…..don ´t you think also….? 🌞

The violins are held in an unusual way, beneath the collarbone. Is this the way vioins were held in the mid 17th century ? Usually they are held higher between the collarbone and the jawbone.

Bart, thank you for the full list of singers. The vocal ensemble is very good. They all seem to be trained professionals. Although I am not a native Italian speaker, I though they did quite well with the pronunciation of Italian. Is the vocal ensemble part of Ensemble Correspondances?

French and Italian Opera or plays of this period had standard gestures and poses. It would be good if the singers could use these.
