Not really and I'm a big fan of the 787B I loved the way it handled in the Gran Turismo games but it was a full 12 seconds off the pole time in qualifying at Le Mans and at least 200hp down on the top cars what it had going for it though was great reliability in an era where the teams with performance didn't necessarily have great reliability I'm lead to believe it was closer to the top teams in race pace and the jaguars were really struggling in the race because of fuel consumption problems this allowed the Mazda up in the top 3 positions then the Mercs failed and the 787B was free to cruise to victory from reports I've read the 787B could have ran for another 24 hours without a problem. If had it had been developed into 1992 it could have been closer in pace to the top teams that assuming the Rotary got more competitive but we'll never know the rotary was banned because the FIA wanted all the teams to use 3.5 litre V10 F1 engines for 1992 this killed group C because most teams could not afford the expense. Mazda's 1992 car was actually more competitive than the 787B (it was 7 seconds per lap quicker round Le Mans) because they had bought the XJR-14 from Jaguar re-badged as an MXR-01 which had a 3.5 litre V10 engine in it though Mazda used a Judd instead of a Cosworth by 1992 however it was dated and Mazda didn't have the funds to develop it further so were left behind by both Peugeot and Toyota it only achieved one 2nd place and at Le Mans it was a respectable 4th overall.

The first 956 pictured is chassis 104 and that is the famous and only group C car driven by Ayrton Senna at the Nürburgring but not the two times Le Mans winner. The 1984 and 1985 Le Mans winner is 956 chassis 117

Chris Etienne Sadly it never won. It was in the lead at the final parts of the race but a tire blow out caused Toyota to lose their 1st place.

Actually Mazda 787B is the best LeMans car ever.But the law banned a rotary engine aswell because its very hard to V8,V12,V10 car to overtake a 787B with Rotary and the western manufacturer are fuckin jealous because their V8,V10,V12 are not even powerful to compare with small displacement Rotary...

Strut Brawler This is untrue rotarys competed for a while in group c being uncompetitive. A mistake allowed the 787b to run no extra weight that year so it won once. It's not a dominant car
