Leach Packmaster Mother Truck, Satellite Scooters

(Michel Ferro Collection) Early 1960's, City of Claremont, CA satellite collection system using 20 yard Packmaster as mother truck. Cab is a wonderfully rare "4-eyed Casey" 1957-60 Ford Cabover. At 0:56 a second truck passes by in the background

It's amazing how long this truck was produced, yet how few we see anymore. These 1958-60 versions with the quad headlights look like they are sleepy compared with the twin lamp version. I have some pics of one with a Pak-Mor body and a "face" painted on the front. Mack also used the cab for a brief time in the late 50's as well.

When i was littler, like around 6 or 7 i think, i would go up to Medford, Oregon for the summer and watch Rogue Disposal do their thing. They had a system like this, but i was just a small pickup truck with a custom kind of dump bed for transfering into a "mother truck" and they used an old Leach Packmaster. I dont remember what chassis it was on, but i have an old pic of me standing next to the tailagte and ut is unmistakeably a Leach Packmaster

I have to wonder how many bins they could fit in those scooters. Assuming they’re the old 25 gallon style it couldn’t have been more than 20...

For lack of a better term they revolve around the mother truck. Like a satellite revolves around the earth.
