When I started getting into the New Caledonian geckos there were always debates on which was better. The leachies or the chahouas? I put all your questions to rest as I explain the pros and cons to each species!

Team chahoua for me but they are both awesome to me. Just actually started getting into reptiles due to my daughter wanting something. So I got her a crested gecko she loves it so do I haha and a week after we have another one lol. Hopefully in the future we will have both of them to add to our collection. Great video keep up the good work. I don’t know if you have them but I’m really interested getting a green tree Monitor lizard they are amazing animals. I’m going to be a poor man after getting all these lol.

Only downside of the monitor is that unless you're ok with being a horrible owner, you need to give them a huge enclosure which not only costs alot, but takes up a ton of space in the house. Unlike the geckos, those guys like to move around alot, so it would be pretty shitty to make them live in a small area where they can't go straight for more than a second or 2 before needing to turn around. Even the recommended sizes are extremely small for them, it'd be like forcing a big dog to live in a big closet or small bedroom.

4:00 dude i was trying to decide which one of the leachies i wanted, that decided me. The color is what made me want it. I love that color. I dont like flashy stuff so the dark coloring is perfect. Grande Terre Main island for sure then

Grande terre chewies will actually be pretty mild in color too!! The GT geckos tend to be darker in general

I like leachies more because they're bigger, can grow their tail back, and they're more vocal. I like stuff that makes some little noises, it makes it feel like you're in a jungle compared to their silent counterparts.

You’re right. Mainland does. I should have clarified that. Most people keep and breed Pine island though

I own multiple locals of both species… the chewies are sooooo much cooler , the only thin cooler with leachies are the noises they make 🤷🏻‍♂️the chewies are hands down the better gecko ! I have a girl that’s about 100 grams ! If we could breed a super sized line chahoua you’d see what I was talking about 👌🏻🙌🏻🤙🏻

my mainland chahoua regrew his tail. never had it happen with PI but mine haven't lost their tail and I hope they never do.

Those prices listed are super low, both of those geckos prices that I’ve ever found were $1,000-3,000. Once have I ever seen a Chahoua be priced at $700.
