You're welcome! Hopefully it helps you out in some way. I just can't imagine dealing with lead acid anymore in my lifetime.

@@rippinglipsadventures I’ve been running lithium for my trolling motor for 3 years. I’ll never go back to acid batteries!!

@@danward2490 What brand did you find when you jumped in?
@danward24907 ай бұрын
When I bought my boat it was from a tracker dealer so the bass pro was the only option I had. But I’ve had zero issues. At the time lithium was not recommended for a starting battery
@rippinglipsadventures7 ай бұрын
@@danward2490 Yeah, some motor manufacturers still don’t recommend lithium for cranking. I’m not entirely sure of the science behind their thinking, but if I have it correct, I’d say it is because some lithium batteries don’t have a BMS that keep it in the range of need to charge or overworking the alternators and in turn potentially overloading the motor alternator and causing a fire in the motor. As long as the lithium battery has the dual purpose in mind and the CCA available for startups and manages the charge rates fine, it shouldn’t be a problem with any motor manufacturer. But that is such a varied experience depending on brands and tech behind both the battery developer and motor manufacturer. Because of all the variety and in lithiums, I’m sure Mercury just gave it a sweeping write-off-the-entire-battery-technology all together to keep from having an expensive warranty mess on their hands.

I just switched to lithium. It was great to hear your take on it.

It’s hard to believe people still seem to give others a hard time about lead acid and how great and cheap their experiences can be with lead acid batteries. I never understood the debate considering my experience was more of a cost savings and acid eating and time wasting with lead acid. It might be a case of old dog and new tricks, but the pressure to switch to lithium is easing up. Ha, ha. Congrats on making the jump to lithium!

Good comparison. Im gonna need some sooner than later myself. Plan on running 2 36v in parallel for the trolling motor.

That must be 50Ah batteries? What brand are you looking at?
@wyatthans75367 ай бұрын
Looking at amped lithium. They sell a set of 36v 50ah batteries with the charger.
@rippinglipsadventures7 ай бұрын
If you're really on the fence with things, I just saw a great comparison video with Amped batteries and other brands. Amped did not have a low-temperature cutoff on their BMS so they would be toast if it was charged below 32 degrees. There are tons of variables you might want to consider if you're from the Great White North and especially if you don't have a heated garage. It's a rather expensive battery that doesn't have many features unless they've changed since this guy's detailed review of the different brands from a year ago. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4SopZl3gMl4edUsi=J4GGIG40vtRBJvma&t=270

@@rippinglipsadventures Thanks for the advice. I'm not stuck on amped and haven't done my due diligence to do my research. I am for sure gonna run parallel 36v for sure. I will prob go with a heated option, my boat is stored inside but no heat. May have to pull the batteries in the winter. I'm in washburn btw.

@wyatthans7536 Sounds good man. Yeah, when I saw that video you came to mind with your Amped consideration right away. I hope whatever you decide is the best experience all around. I didn’t realize you were so close to Garrison. Cool beans. Brett told me you’ll be fishing with him sometime this season, too. Awesome!

@@rippinglipsadventures I run the 48hr from Amped Outdoors for my livescope shuttle. Thinking about switching the boat batteries to lithium this season. Have also had good luck with Dakota Lithium in the past.

Didnt know that acid batteries would eat aluminum that's worth the swap to me
@rippinglipsadventures7 ай бұрын
Well, it doesn't eat it out-right and/or easily, but it does make a mess when the aluminum is painted like it was in my boat. If left without neutralizing the acid for a long time, it would definitely weaken the spots it sits on. I was just tired of having to deal with it eating through my straps and paint and potentially sitting in the bottom of the boat for a decade or two. Still worth it for the piece of mind and money saved over the course of time.
